Pfft... Think-tank my crusty ass. The only thing they "think" about is who they can sell out to.
A real think tank would start off a report on this topic with the truth.
"Recording companies that hide behind RIAA are misguided by employing armies of lawyers, instead of one or two good innovative entrepreneurs".
"P2P networks are the definitive distribution model of the digital economy".
"Recording companies that hide behind RIAA either are so out of touch with reality they'd rather replace the internet with telegraphs than take the effort to lead the music industry".
"Recording companies that hide behind RIAA need not worry, where they lack vision others are more than willing to pick up the slack."
"All that recording companies that hide behind RIAA really need to do is to sit down and shutthefuckup."
That think-tank sounds more like a stink-tank to me, they reek of lies and inaccuracies.
I predict a record-breaking bid will ultimately win this one.
The two conditions increase the value of said network. Based on Metcalfe's Z-squared principle more nodes = more value. With a little faith and some vision this will be a bonanza for the winner(s).
The value formula of the internet (Z-squared) indicates that the value impact of their shortsighted decision results in an exponential DECREASE in the value of their site. The founder of 3-Com proposed that the value of a network is the square of it's nodes, where nodes can represent visitors, clients, and any point of the value chain.
That principle works the other way too. So if the blocked users represent 10% of their visitors the relative NEGATIVE impact on their site's value is about -20%. Let's hope they continue this trend since some websites simply do not belong in the iPool.
I'm not sure if schools are the place to learn these lessons, just like schools are not to learn about real life. Who's version of it are they going to teach? What are the moral, ethical, and responsibility parameters for such a curriculum? Is this another one size fits all approach? How much more will it cost to create a curriculum and support structure for something that parents are responsible for?
Don't know if anyone has notices but public schools rank pretty poorly in teaching the basics such as reading, writing, and rithmetic. Perhaps it would be better to let schools focus on improving the basics, and encourage parents to step up to the plate and take responsibility for their brats.

RIAA is just the name of the front-org to shield consumer entertainment companies from backlash of the ill-will they create.
Is there a way to summarize the summary page with a couple of graphics or pictures and then offer links to greater detail. That first page is a lot to digest at a glance. Weather.com does a good job summarizing mountains of info, perhaps a similar approach for the summary would help.
While HIPPA and all the other regs apply to the US, the medical industry and insurance companies outsource tons of data services to cheap off-shore companies that don't adhere to the regs.
With a couple of dollars and a few phone calls you can get mountains of patient data from overseas.
Many college students are not sure yet of what they want to become, how are kids even younger going to make a choice like this, if they even should.
How can you choose what you want to be when you don't even know yourself yet. At that age kids are still living in the shadows of their parents, and do what their parents tell them to do. They have not yet discovered what they like, what they are good at, what makes them get up in the morning.
Perhaps a better idea would be to invest the money in improving the existing programs in the hard sciences, along with reading, writing, and arithmetic the foundation of all professions. Then as students begin the process of self discovery they will be prepared regardless of what profession they ultimately choose.
High School students should NOT be given a choice, rather they should be told what to do, and disciplined to achieve good results.
Watch Redmond stop the presses and do a nationwide ad campaign on this one...
I can see it now "Reformed Cyber-criminal chooses Vista over Linux - claims he has 'seen the light' (on his shiny new ankle bracelet)".
Government doesn't write the news stories, government just makes the news stories that are written more accurate.
Anyone else starting to get the feeling that the reason we topple communist regimes is 'cause Washington doesn't like competition?
one of the coolest things I've seen.

Guess everyone still wants a shiny new bionic right arm.

we drop a bomb on the Brits? They believe in monarchs, they have bad teeth, and now this?
I think they need another good ol' Yankee ass-kicking.
Is my guess at what the winning bid will be, and it's still chump change.
It translates into roughly $280 per household, which translates into $23.33/month. Currently the exclusive iPhone/AT&T packages run $50+ per month.
Quick ROI even at $28 Billion, methinks.
Well they let Sony know that it will cost at least $150million for their loyalty. Blockbuster and Target were a steal hehe. Brilliant move.
Perhaps it's time for Microsoft to bail on Ballmer.
The whole Urge thing lacked the strategic finesse and vision Microsoft would otherwise be capable of.
There's only one strategic foundation that can challenge Apple+iTunes and Urge was not it, and the Rhapsody-MTV-Verizon approach is not it either.
I predict a record-breaking bid will ultimately win this one.

Apple may not want to hear this but this network + iClone http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/08

Won't be spankin' the monkey until that gets an upgrade as well.

I wish her luck as well a success.

Also, the xml feed is has a slight syntax error:

The irony a technology company going low tech to serve their customers, while my local bank sends my phone calls overseas.
Yeah, I think that warrants giving NetFlix my business.
