and I will never buy your product again. Hell if I'm in an accident due to your advertisement and I survive, I'll sue you into oblivion and guess what, Your insurance company is not going to cover you.
One thing this tech may be used for is improving vehicle safety by providing a better HUD (heads up display) for things like a NiR (near infrared) and UV camera that allows me to see the fucktard driving w their headlamps off just after sunset because he thinks he don't need them.
How about seeing the damn idiot who's broke down on the shoulder in the fog/rain/snow/night, whatever makes it more difficult to see. These are the kind of uses I can think of that have a great benefit to us if they make it cheap enough to actually be applied as a film - we already do this for safety glass so incorporate it into the safety film. Hell you even have the ability to use it for highway safety information such as "Rt 3 lanes closed 2 miles - Merge Lft".
This was exactly what I did a decade ago when I built my first computer. Maxed out the memory and went with a cheaper CPU (950 T-Bird). System still works and is capable of running Win7-32 due to having 1GB of RAM. Could already see the writing back when still using 98 as the changed requirements from 95 to 98 was a doubling of system memory. Me increased em again then XP came out and needed at least double what Me required (256M minimum/512 to be usable). Hell that system is even capable of running Vista though it would be dog slow - not Vista's fault.
When asked, I recomend at least 8GB for a home user with 16GB as the max for Win7 Home. If they need more, they need the Pro as Home is limited to 16GB (artifically). My current system had the memory maxed out (store bought HP) as soon as possible and I recently upgraded the CPU from a dual to a quad core as I tend to load em a bit. Kept the old CPU as it offers a working chip if I replace/build a new system around a socket 3 board.
Guess you're still using 800x600 when most people are on at least a 17inch running 1280x1024 or higher. I'm using a 23 inch full 1080 so the large fonts are actully welcomed because I can read the fucking thing.
I do agree that the blank fucking view by default is stupid and as to 50 running processes, hell even on Win7-Home, the damn default is for 40+ services to be running at startup so what's a few extra's. Bet some of them are for your video card from AMD/Nvidia - both tend to add 3-5 fucking services themselves (god damn idiots). How about the fucking printer? How many services did it add? If it's an HP or Canon you've got at least a trio right there. Scanners? That tends to start WIA (windows image aquisition) since you now have that - a web cam does the same thing.
There's a lot of crap that starts automatically with windows and the easiest way to disable most of it is use the Sysinternals Autoruns tool by Mark Ruskovitch. Free download from MS as they hired him.
yet I'm running 8.1 Pro w/o classic shell or any other crap to make it look like Win7. Seems to work well enough that I see little reason to revert back to Win7 other then Virtual PC 2007 - only app I used regularly that's no longer works on Win8 (supposed to be compatibility issues - BS on that, they just want folks to not use any virtualization method other then Hyper-V).
As stated, 8.1 works well enough that from a home user standpoint, I see little reason to revert to Win7.
The strangest thing is, Windows XP and later has included the "Invite Remote Assistance" tool/feature that works quite well while using RPD. Haven't used it but it's been there if I absolutely need it to support one of the folks I provide tech support to.
Funny thing is, I've never thought to use one of the remote control tools for that as it's just as easy to simply drive over and fix their problem. I also get a nice cookie or two (great baker) or other goody to share with the family.
and I'm in the U.S. where IP6 support is worst then absysimal - it doesn't even exhist for my ISP (they're planning to roll it out in 2050 if then. They've got no financial need for it as they have plenty of IP4 spaces to use such with the internal config - multiple NAT for residential users. Annoying as all hell when IP6 would actually simplify the fucking network while allowing them to ensure that you're not Torrenting anything.
Sure a T1 connection is god damn slow but it's what's being offered in the area for a reasonable fee. The main thing is that T1 defines a single connection rated at 1.55mbps both ways. So instead of running a single T1, it's not much more expensive to go and run a T3 (10 T1) or an E3 (10 T3) connections or as someone else pointed out, simply run fiber. You can get Pre-terminated fiber in 2km lenghts for a pretty fucking reasonable price per cable.
As I recently discovered. Got an Xmas gift of Civ5 and found out it needed the steam client to be installed even though I don't care for online/multiplayer. God damn client puked, system BSOD's and then I couldn't install critical updates nor take the fucking client out (no restore point created) so I had to nuke it and take 48 hours to get all of the fucking Windows updates before installing the rest of my software.
I dislike Steam and Valve with a passion after that plus I don't like ads or having software demand my network connection be active all the time just to play an off-line game. Hell I'm not a gamer and haven't bought anything new in a decade so Steam and Valve are as usefull as gold handles on my gold fish.
and this is exactly why I don't allow auto updates. I do have it set in Windows to download them and tell me they're available so I can plan when to install them instead of just blindly rebooting the fucking computer.
In the Linux world, I don't ever auto-update at all. No Sirree. Of course, I take the time to read up on the vulnerabilities but as I tend to run Gentoo, many times the damn vulnerabilities in a feature I don't need/use or even want on my computer as it's a single user system.
Now get off my lawn so I can finish painting myself into the fucking corner while checking to see if I can still run KDE 3 on latest stable debian.
My first PC was a TRS80/4p in 1982 that cost over $5,000 for it and the 15M External Disk, so I've been using a computer for a very long time. Hell the next system I bought was a Tandy 1000 (Intel 286) and I used that for 4 years. The first Windows system I had was in 88 and ran Dos 6.22/WFW 3.11 and that was a 386. I've had damn near every generation of Intel based chip other then P4 over the last 30 years.
In fact, I've used every consumer version of Windows (3.11/95a/b/c/98/Se/Me/XP/Vista/Win7/8/8.1) that MS has released and let me tell you: Win8 is not crap and yes I do know as I'm running 8.1 now. 8 was a clusterfuck in your face change - as bad as Vista was but with a fucking reason. Yes 8 is not for anyone who uses a desktop and 8.1 fixed many of the fucking desktop complaints but it still isn't as good as Vista/Win7 is for that purpose.
Personally, I'm no fan of desktop effects and have disabled them since Win95b with IE4 since the slide open menus simply wasted time. When I use Linux, I prefer Fluxbox to anything else as it has a plain text syntax for the fucking menu and I can edit it as needed but when I need a full DE, I'll stick with KDE 3 as it actually works better then the crap called 4 - email actually works w/o bogging the fucking system down and Amarok is damn near perfect (2.0 still hasn't reached feature parity) and who's bright idea was it to use an SQL DB for email? Sounds like something from Microsoft.
The biggest complaint I'm hearing about 8/8.1 is WMP is not included (finally killed by MS) and those folks don't use iTunes so I suggest they get VLC for Videos as it handles damn near everything including music though I do tell em that it wont save the fucking playlist for some reason. If they have an extensive music library, I suggest FooBar2000 as it works quite well - use it myself. Personally, I'd stick with Open Source but Wine doesn't support my games worth a damn (at least I haven't figured out how to get some of them running) and don't even mention Steam to me as I don't like/trust them.
I'm not dumb enough to pay for porn when there's so much freely available on the net and shaming me? I'm fucking shameless so if they don't like it they can get the fuck off my lawn and quit peeping in my windows.
The real Value of the USD is the god damn Marines. It's got nothing to do with taxes or anything else as there isn't enough gold in Fort Knox to back even a tenth of what's out there. Just look at Iraq - we sure as hell didn't need to send the troops over there to protect the people. Let em keep killing each other. The only reason we did was "Oil" as Haliburton wanted to ensure they were the one's pumping and transporting it. Corporate Expansion at it's finest (East Indies Company for those historically minded).
and as I've got my filters set, this is the first discussion in bit/lite coin that I've bothered to read in the last 2 months so what's it got to do with the price of tea in china anyhow? It's like all the Apple slashversitements - I don't even see most of them as they're filtered just like most of the bit/lite coin articles.
In regards to the number of articles, they have served a useful purpose by explaining why it's so fucking hard to even find a Radeon 7850 at a reasonable price. Turns out that everyone is buying them for litecoin mining. I'm looking for one to replace an aging 5670 that's pushing 4yrs as the card offers the most bang for buck with a trippling of performance - that's right a 3x boost in performance for under $200, which is why I've been holding off replacing my little 1st Gen 5670 (discontinued 4 months after release - down rated 66xx series due to failing some DX10 tests but works fine otherwise).
I use noscript in a deny all by default config with only a dozen sites even white listed. Any website that figures out how to get around noscript gets added to my hosts file as a malware site and I never visit again.
As someone else at the top pointed out, any site that refuses to load due to needing javascript gets looked at temporarily then blocked and forgoten about as it's usefulness is questionable. Sorry but I don't run scripts by default due to the many pop-ups/unders I've suffered in the past and I don't run IE for the same fucking reason.
Lucky Me, we had the Gas Co. (tm) come around a couple of years ago asking how many in my small neighborhood wanted natural gas run. Not a bad deal at $70,000 per home and you know what? We told them to go to hell - 98 percent of us home owners told em that. Of course the 30 percent yes response was from renters who don't get any say as they dont own the property. For those wanting/needing gas, propane is readily available and it's no more expensive then what the Gas Co. (tm) wanted plus you don't have the streets tore up while the run the lines.
the only problem is that MS wont give you some updates if you refuse to run the malicious software removal tool. This includes things like Security Eseentials along with Important updates to the OS that solve other problems, meaning they're shooting themselves in the foot trying to prevent a botnet from expanding by denying updates that may block it to begin with. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't
the avg 22-25 month life span of a mobile device is U.S. only as most of your phones are on 2 year (24 month) contracts and people replace em at the end. Creates lots of unneeded E-waste and the god damn carriers don't bother with bug/security fixes after they've created the fucking things. Worthless PoS's in my book. I've got a pair of Samsung 4930 phones that still work better then most of the crap being pushed today (Yes they're digital) with far better battery life and range because of the pull out antenna's plus they're over a decade old but work fine as a fucking phone because that's all they are.
So post them yourself then. We American's don't think in metric, don't use it and don't give a damn about anyone who's not an American. Sorry but the fucking poster is the one you need to bitch at as/. doesn't have editors
Now why in hell should/. start using the metric system when even though the U.S. was supposed to be metric back in 1850 by Treaty, we still haven't switched?
it's seperating the disolved oxygen from the water you moron. Same thing the gills on Fish Does. If the water doesn't have enough oxygen, you're going to be in serious trouble but in normal diving (>30m/50f) there's enough oxygen disolved in the water to support a human quite nicely (it's also what causes steel to rust in salt water along with the electrolytic action caused by disimilar metals (Steel/Aluminum) and why ships tend to use zinc anodes.
