I read the actual Financial Times article about this and they stated the cost savings by going the web app route was 5x what they figured originally. The explanation is that the web app is platform independant, meaning they have only one code base to maintain instead of apps for each and every app store
Well, then it seems to me the airlines should be doing something to fix it besides just trying to ban electronic equipment.
That's like Saying it's the Users responsibility to fix Windows instead of Bitching at MS for selling an insecure product. In this case, it's both the FAA and the manufacturers who need to take action. As to the airlines requiring all electronics being turned off and put away during take off/landing there's a damn good reason and it's got little to do with interference. It hurts like hell to have someone's stinking laptop hit you in the head several rows away doesn't it? I sure as hell want you to put it away because I don't like getting hit for no reason.
It's called Cross Platform and there's one free app that runs on Linux, OSX and Windows called DropBox. Gives you 2GB of online/synched storage for free and to upgrade to 100GB isn't all that expensive. The nice thing is the cross platform independence, meaning I can run what ever the hell I want and not be locked into the latest/greatest "Ooo Shiny" crap.
Hell I got a bunch of facebook spam and finaly had to take action. Simply reset the damn account pw and changed it to something nice and complex using a random generator then posted on the wall "FOAD you idiots". I also changed the profile to look like a psycopath in prison. Worked nicely as I no longer get any facebook spam.
I've got an HP All in One touch screen and can say that Win7 actually works pretty well using it. Sure IE/Office and many other apps don't support touch screens yet but the OS itself already provides a decent framework for touch as IOS does.
Using explorer to move though the directory works quite well with the touch screen. Dealing with Media playback in WMP works quite well also. In fact the only area where touch is limited/fails is Office/Web and those apps stuck in -WinXP days. As to the OS itself, yes touch works nicely but until MS gets the devs onboard with a uniform touch interface as Apple did with IOS, there simply aint going to be the tablet apps. Of course with all the devs cutting their teeth on IOS and the iPad, maybe MS is going to benefit from the reduced learning curve because people will already know what doesn't work for touch screens.
I've got a domain registered and use Google Apps for it. Due to changes Google made in Feburary 2011, I'm no longer able to have FF open my Domain Apps and Personal iGoogle pages at the same time. It forces me to log-out of the domain apps every time.
What I've found though is that IE9 works nicely with Google Apps and I now have it configured to deal with my business apps while keeping firefox for my personal browser.
The difference is that people making derivative works of BSD-licensed software are not forced to contribute back to the project.
This is the key element in my mind and a good example of this is the TCP/IP stack that everyone uses. It's an elegant piece of code yet as a dev, I can modify the hell out of it and maybe improve it tremendously but I don't have to share those improvements with anyone else unlike GPL code, which requires me to share them.
It's this difference that makes the GPL better for the community yet for businesses, it makes more sense to go with the BSD.
I switched to laser because the cost was far less then what an Inkjet ran us in ink. As an example, I've got an HP1600Color Laser that cost $400 when new, and I'm still operating on the original toner cartridges after 4 years. If I'd been using an Inkjet, I'd have replaced the cartridges every month simply from lack of use causing them to dry out at an avg cost of $40 per cart. That's 48 months worth for 300 or 1900+ for and inkjet.
I'm sorry but the glossy screen is actually easier to use in bright lighting conditions. The reason for this is pretty effen simple: The glare is constrained to a very limited area and does not wash out the entire screen as those so called Anti-Glare have happen.
Sorry but if I get a laptop, I much rather have the gloss screen for just that reason because lighting is to damn erratic instead of being diffused like in the stinking showrooms.
and that's exactly why you'd use graphene. Simply use the energy potential of the atmosphere to power it and there would probably be enough to eliminate most normal energy generating facilities, especially if you have a quad of elevatorsand connect them with a ring work.
Buzz!! Turn in your geek card as both Java and Adobe have autoupdaters. The problem is that both of them require admin rights to even run. Admin rights are fine for the installer but not the damn updater which should be just a simple downloader but no, both of them believe they're the only software that should be running on your computer, so want admin rights to fuck things up.
On my home network, I've configured all users as limited accounts w/o rights to install any software. I've also set a strong admin password and I don't install Java as we have no need for it. In regards to Flash and Reader though, I'm stuck because we have PDF docs that simply don't work with any of the others (depend on the latest formats) and flash is used by to many games. At least I've managed to switch them to FF 4 with noscript and have set it to block all plug-ins other then for specific whitelisted sites.
No? So their talking out their ass as usual trying to protect their chip market.
Many of the apps I run are written for Windows API's, not Intel's assembly language. This is the biggest reason MS managed to get the large market share it has. Devs, Devs, Devs and they did it providing stable API's. Sure they've played fast and loose but if a dev writes to the published API's, it should run on any version of Windows w/o to many issues.
As to things that depend on Ring 0 access, they're all in the same boat aren't they.
first off, as someone posted earlier Child's violated the policy for Key/Password management, which was grounds for immediate firing. Hell all he'd had to do was slip and fall while taking a shower and nocked himself senseless and they'd have been in the same position because he violated proceedure. He then upped the violation by configuring the network to created a D.o.S condition upon any power failure and if I was in a position to hire someone with his skill set, his application/resume would immediately go to/dev/null as he's already proven his untrustworthiness and lack of professionalism.
Yep. I love to get medieval on everyone's ass. A Trebuchet works nicely for that and of course my trusty sword helps get my point across to them idiots. Last but not least, there aren't any lawyers because "Might Makes Right" now back to work serfs
The main advantage to 64 bit windows is that all 32bit apps run in their own VM called WoW (windows on windows) meaning that a buggy app doesn't take the entire system down if it crashes or pukes. Another thing is that ASLR and DEP both work a bit better and when I max out system memory (16GB) the system should be able to run w/o paging/swapping at all because of the memory.
The last benefit is that I will also be able to run any 64bit app as they become available instead of being stuck with 32bit only and from what I've seen, MS is going completely 64bit with TNG Win8
It's called Dual Link and you simply have to select cards with that capability or with SLI/CrossFire to handle that density. My current card is a budget card >$100 when new (Radeon 5670 w/512m) that supposrts both Dual Link and CrossFire. This means I could easily handle a 5120x4800 display using a pair of them for >$250, which is cheaper then a single High End Card (not top line).
Actually, the reason it's so hard to determine the problem is because everything is active. If a system is in locked down status to begin with, you have an easier time figuring out the problem because you only need to work on (1) One issue at a time. Much nicer. Of course it would also help if they'd create a product where the basic functionality worked out of the box and didn't depend on so many proprietary techs.
Strange comments about 7zip being unable to deal with damange/incomplete archives because I was viewing/extracting single files from incomplete achives just a couple days ago. So long as the part is complete, 7zip can deal with it and no even WinRar doesn't deal well with >100 percent downloaded part because normally critical data is missing to even open the archive.
I'm using FF 4.0 and since the system is connected to an APC-UPS with 30+ mins runtime, I haven't shut it down for the last 17 days. Currently I'm using 28 tabs, Noscript, Down Them All and Better privacy and total memory footprint is a meager 420K according to Task Manager in Win7.
I read the actual Financial Times article about this and they stated the cost savings by going the web app route was 5x what they figured originally. Sembalence of Inteligence? This is Earth dam it, there's no inteligent life here.

The question then becomes "Who's National Security? as these controllers are deployed around the world.

which makes this test totally useless and I'm in the States.
