What the real point these lawyers are looking at is making this a class action lawsuit so they can cash in on the problem instead of the customers by racking up lots of Fees that get paid.

That's my take on this issue. Sure there may be a problem and it needs to be resolved but this is the States and Corps run this country not the people anymore.

Keep in mind that the ARM design house is just that, a Design House that produces no actual hardware except for a limited number of test chips. Due to that, they make their money by licensing the design to anyone who wants to use it and both AMD and Intel can easily pay those fees if it makes a profit.

MS announced an ARM based Windows for the same reason that Apple switched to Intel. Keeping their options open and the NT kernel (used in Win2k/XP/Vista/Win7+) was designed for easy porting to new hardware while keeping the many Windows API's stable for compatibility.

The most common reason given by hardware makers for their poor linux support is a lack of stable kernel AP/B i's. Simply put, Linus changes things to frequantly for the hardware makers to keep up and a good example is the Nvidia drivers having to be recompiled every kernel update. That's a real PITA for the hardware makers since MS has provided a stable API for the last 10+ years with the NT kernel.

the fun thing about webbrowsers is that they open lots of tcp connections, then barely send any packets at all (ie. connection generally closes after 4-5 packets tops - sometimes after 2 packets). If you lose the first packet in a connection, which is quite likely when browsing, the SRTT algorithm has no choice but to wait 2 minutes before retry - guaranteeing the user will have to interfere (ie. "F5"). This results in the massive deterioration of web browsing experience with trivially small packet loss.

and this is exactly why I have FF set to use a single connection per server. Yes it's counter intuitive but it seems to actually speed up my web browsing and I'm on a basic cable plan (512/256) with multiple computers in the household online.

  11. Re:Windows on Intel Intros 310 Series Mini SSDs · · Score: 2

Only thing is, it doesn't work that way in Windows simply because the damn / folder is part of the /user data folder. Due to that, you have to map each users /home folder on an individual basis and mapping more then a couple of folders/drives will slow boot/shutdown times considerably. Another issue is "Unlike *nix" MS didn't see fit to isolate the damn /root "/admin" folder from the /home "/user data" folder, meaning you simply can't relocate /home "/user data" to another drive.

Another issue is that the folder/drive mapping is on a user by user basis and the reason it slows shit down is the fact that Windows wants to cache the data from those mapped locations in the offline cache location. So now it copies all of that data back into "C" drive because the idiots at MS couldn't take a page from the *nix folks and use a design that's trully engineered for multiple users. I've got Vista (32/64) Win7 (32/64) and both Pro/Ultimate do not make it easy to do any of that.

Oh I'll admit that there may be some third party tools that could do it but they'll probably cost more then I can afford or the local mom and pop shop is willing to spend on IT infrastructure.
