I personally know a lot of people that like Princess Mononoke myself but never could figure out why.
Try asking them...
I still believe that most of geeks in the U.S. like sci-fi and martial arts genres
You'd be surprised at the number of guys who like sappy shoujo manga/anime. I mean, making the label your own and wearing it proudly is fine and everything, but why continue to reinforce stereotypes?
Now based on your site url... Have you been to the U.S.?
No, but I am on three anime-related MLs mostly populated by Americans.
As for my childish hatred on Disney... Yep, it probably is childish but come on every animated film they made since i don't know when happen to be so.... disneyish! You know that sappy/corny stuff.
So what? Personally, I dislike it less than hardcore SF macho/corny stuff.

Because a truly self-respecting anime fan is able to resist the anti-dub propaganda? Because he hopes that the US release will not have the strong red tint of the Japanese DVD, and knows that it will also contain the Japanese soundtrack and be cheaper?

Most of the anime us geeks love in the U.S. are the sci-fi type and sometimes martial arts ones but not the disneyish ones like this.
Please cut out that "us" crap when stating your personal preferences.
Perhaps some slashdotters can inform me as to why films like this are popular among some geeks?
Because they like that kind of movie? D'oh! Please get over your childish hatred of Disney and the reverse steretyping.

Sure. Just like Asian animators regularly rip off Disney. Osamu Tezuka, who pretty much single-handedly made Japan's manga and anime industries what they are today, was a great admirer of Disney animation.

What I mean is that people don't want to specifically go to Yahoo or eBay. They want a good news service, an auction site with a large audience, etc. If there are alternatives, the "brand name" sites can easily lose their appeal.
I suspect that the ISPs in question are not just doing a simple money-grabbing play, they know this and are prepared to offer their own portals instead.
Except you pulled that 0.04% out of your nose and ignored the figure given: 250 million people are considered "middle classes", affluent enough to afford an internet connection. That about as many people as the population of the USA, the country currently dominating the internet. Oops.
People want to see MSN, Yahoo, and eBay. Take that away from them, and they will find alternative methods to connect to the Internet.
I rather doubt people want to see those sites that much, especially if offered workable alternatives.
Especially in the case of eBay, this will mean near certain death for the current India ISPs. eBay is doing fine as it is
Sorry to burst your bubble, but eBay is NOT doing fine in Japan. In fact, it has closed down because everybody was using Yahoo auctions instead. This happened *without* any interference from ISPs. I see no reason why the same could not happen in India.
Ebay may dominate in the US and Europe, but its dominance was not inevitable. Ebay Japan is quite pathetic and the online auction market is instead dominated by Yahoo auctions - while Yahoo is stopping its auction service elsewhere.
That's why you need lots of error-correcting code and hardware, which makes professional streamers terribly expensive, AND if you want to keep your data for a long time, you'll copy it back and forth between tapes regularly to avoid having too many demagnetized bits destroy the data beyond the capabilities of your ECC. Of course, you'll also throw away the tapes after a few such cycles since they physically degrade.
But it's still used, mainly because there's no alternative that is both financially viable and time-tested. MO would probably be more dependable but is too expensive, while writable CDs and DVDs don't last all that long (or at least may not).
Exactly the same as in Europe. Of course, I suspect that you won't find any ISP either in Europe or NZ that will offer you a contract unless you agree to have your data filed to some degree.
I prefer my neo-fascist control fetish to your neo-liberal corporate masochism, thankyouverymuch, Mr. trailer-trash hillbilly. Glad to live in Europe, still the place where people actually care for each other and have a sense of community beyond "Those fucking cops better beat up that dirty bum or I'll shoot him myself!"
Maybe about the same time the Israelis figure out that there is equally little sympathy for their "retalitation" which basically amounts to executions without trial or outright murder.
The point is that while you are in a public place, you're being watched anyway, so what's the big problem with a camera being among the watchers? Are opposed to police partols, too? If you want to do something you don't want anyone to watch, you're not going to do it in a public place anyway.

I have heard several opinions that state that Japanese is better suited for
machine translations than most western languages.
WRITTEN Japanese, yes. The kanji characters, which make the language hard to learn, are a great boon for machine translation because they have a (more or less) fixed meaning.
No. At 30, they've usually come to accept and expect "obasan". Calling them "oneesan" will make you look like trying to kiss up. Women stop being "oneesan" when they marry, which is around 25 on average.
Well d'oh. The point here is that one would generally consider a public library a place where one could let one's children go safely and without supervision instead of worrying about pornography and whatnot. Do you want (or are able to) to supervise your children every second of their lives?
In Iceland, it will. That's why it's easy for them to do this.

Um.. you DO realize that fighting will only get much, MUCH worse when oil-dependant countries like the US duke it out for the last reserves?
Copyright laws are pretty much standardized internationally through the Berne Convention, which says that any signatory nation must grant foreigners the same copyright protection which it grants its own citizens. There's another treaty that additionally specifies minimum standards of protection, and all members of the WTO must comply with both of these treaties.

The point is that you pay $30 to be able to connect wireless in hundreds of Starbucks all over the world, possibly other places as well.

Not exactly "flimsy" (well, some cheap ones are), but not made to be used for hours each day either.
The arcade version has a solid metal "dancefloor", while the mats would probably break once every week or so under this heavy usage.
You forget the lack of quality control. (No, that is NOT a flesh-coloured jumpsuit!)
That's bullshit. The first world is still responsible for FAR more pollution and waste of energy that the third.

You'll probably find scientifically sound information on that right next to the research papers on fairy dust and magic beans.
