Agreed, read my reply to another poster about him being crazy, out of reach of common mortals. So, no use for common mortals planned. He does it just because he can. This is why this is his first stunt in USA. No profits at reach with his product.
Still, it is interesting to see what he knows about aerodynamics. He knows enough to implement aerodynamic principles with his own body at a time where computer assisted stealth flying is more popular.
The guy is former jet fighter pilot and he deals with speeds well above what you reference in your link. If I remember right, it took him less than 10 minutes to cross the English channel while you can multiply that time by about 10 with your suggested setup.
If you do not care about speed then, of course, you are right.
I wrote that the guy meant serious business. I will put more emphasis on this by saying the guy is crazy. Out of reach of common mortals.
This is funny, I was just watching an old documentary about him. Just before he flew across the English channel, he realized in a wind tunnel that his wings were unbalanced so he would always starts an endless looping that leads to a crash on the same side. He learned to recuperate from this anyways. Amazingly, he said that he didn't have time to rebalance his wings before the English channel crossing so he did it as is.
This guy is serious business. Another poster was unsatisfied because he needs to be launched from a plane or helicopter. Believe me, it is a must with his setup. Also, he can't land and he uses a parachute to land. His setup involves only a wing set and a turbine. There is no other controls but the turbine speed. All directional control is done with his body.
This is good to know. Otherwise his tweet might have ended up on some conspiracy theorist sites with a "black helicopters" tag or something...
A very interesting point is that it is said one of the 4 choppers was hit by enemy fire which I haven't heard about yet. President Obama said "no Americans were injured" so I would assume it was only a minor hit.
On another topic, CNN just announced a few minutes ago that there is a DNA match confirming the body was indeed Osama. They also announced that the FBI has updated its most wanted list, it makes sense I guess...
You are right, this is a higher percentage than I have witnessed in any department of IT jobs I have had and it is probably a higher percentage than it would be in any IT consulting company employees.
Just make sure to do some backups in case "it" decides to protect yourself at random due to some malfunctions, or for example, a CPU upgrade etc. where the drive decides it needs to protect you...
Yep, and then jungle shipyards would be replaced by jungle pigeon raising facilities to breed armies of pigeons to invade U.S. with drugs. All pigeons would be trained to deliver straight to the street dealer thus by-passing any intermediary and furthermore raising profits.
DEA would hire pigeon hunters. Traffickers would now be looking for former soviet circus trainers instead of former soviet submarine experts and so on...
It kind of reminds me of nanotechnology although pigeons do not really qualify as nano.
I agree with the basic principles you expressed, but a freelancer doesn't necessarily have a steady income even if the person is fully legit with regards to report income. Average income for the past years might be irrelevant if the person is waiting for a big contract while asked to be a juror.
Of course, things are simpler for employed people.
Furthermore, bottom line, if you resist to the idea of being a juror, you should be disqualified because you might impair the jury for revenge. This is the spirit of the law. I could plead that the judge forcing you to be a juror when you don't want to is indeed committing an offense with regards to the spirit of the law. This would be sufficient grounds for mistrial if everything was going by the book.
Agreed, I might have expressed it in a too simplistic way. Yet, by being just a little more subtle, it isn't that hard to get disqualified. Did you ever had a friend who was a victim in similar cases, etc. ?
Most people realted to the matter will tell you that it isn't that hard to get disqualified, shame on me if I made it sound too simplistic.
Bottom line, people earning 250,000$ a year or more will call their layer for a good speech to get out of it so in the end, the jurors aren't really representative of all spheres of society like the spirit of the law intended in the first place.
P.S. I heard of cases similar to what you stated before so thanks for pondering me.
I totally agree, the average quality of jurors is very mild. This is why the courts should be allowed to pick jurors from a pool they choose.
This is how it currently works technically. But in real life, all you have to say to be disqualified from a juror role is that you can't stand any type of criminality and that any criminal should be sentenced to death even if he is only suspected of a crime.
Getting paid more and getting more advantages might indeed refrain yourself from doing just that but it is a hard to tackle problem: How much should we pay a juror earning 250,000$ a year compared to one earning 50,000$ a year, especially if the person works as a freelancer ?
Don't forget jurors are sometimes sequestered with no access to any type of news so they are not "contaminated" by mass media or other type of news. At least in those cases, smart phones would be a big no-no.
They are sometimes allowed to get newspapers although where the articles regarding the trial they are involved in are removed when they are sequestered for weeks.
Hmm... If I understand your post correctly, let me comment a bit:
Do you know how certificate signing work ?
Done properly, one should never reveal its certificates private keys at any time. So in the end, a certificate signed by an external company should be as confidential as a self signed certificate or a certificate signed by a company you trust.
This is the whole idea behind PKI.
Granted, I have seen many people who do not understand this important point. I have seen cases where the the signing authority was aware of the private key but this should never occur if you know a bit about PKI 101.
I hope our proxy admins would figure that out. In the mean time, they just terminate any https connection attempt and return a page saying "you are not allowed to connect to this site". They have a white list of a few domains where you are allowed to connect to using https. Like *.ibm.com, *.oracle.com, etc.

Look at the line of comments, would using lynx for those internal corporate apps work any better ?
You bit like an hungry fish, I was kidding of course ;-)
To your defense, maybe I should have started my comment with "While at it..."
Quitting browsing the internet on company time even less ;-)

I searched for "goatse" to find out what this was all about and I found the answer !
You would be surprised how many non-slashdotters do not think of it. Do not assume that because it is obvious to you it is to everybody.
"Suspicion-less searches" comes in handy
"We had your laptop searched for no reason, we never suspected you of doing anything wrong..."
This way, nobody could ever complain of discriminatory treatment based on race, nationality, religion, etc.

or torrents ? It seems like circular logic to me.
You seem to be already enjoying good rock quality...

"Can we have this on comments too ?"
You do, it's called the comment field: An infinite drop-down for every single word! How much more power do you need?
This doesn't allow you to modify other poster comments ;-(
(I suspect that IS the AFD joke.)
You can't be serious. You are joking for sure and trying to play AF on me !
Can we have this on comments too ?

Nah, they are sequestered on an hotel floor and they are allowed to visit female jurors in other rooms to exchange on the trial or other matters...

I will take care of better entropy in phase 2 of my research. ;-)
