    Seriously, when something is working, don't screw with it. Just leave it alone, and use your talents to solve a new problem.

    Java scares companies like Microsoft and Apple because it has the potential to make their closed platforms irrelevant. If the promise of Java did take off - people would be free to choose their platform without having to worry about buying all new apps or learning new look-alike apps.

    By forcing programmers to use Objective-C - Apple can ensure that those apps are hard to port to any other platform.

    That said, the 10.4 API is pretty feature complete, so by not too much harm is done by freezing the Java to OS X API right now.

    Last time I did this sort of thing - I was peppering my email sigs with things like "pot-smoker", "porn", "hookers."

    That's because I feel that my government's reaction to said activities is wrong.

    I don't feel any compunction to hinder my government's prosecution of "suicide bombers","bush assassins" et al.

    Frankly, I wish my government would roll a few more heads - but that's just me. I'm a vindictive bastard.

    Just because the choice of the public doesn't match yours does not give you a right to judge it as a "wrong" choice like some kind of consumer overlord.

    The public can be horrably wrong.

    The America public tolerated slavery.
    The German public condoned mass murder.
    The Islamic public praises the famlies of suicide bombers.
    The Japanese public diden't care about the rape of Nanking.
    The Soviet public watched in silence at millions died.
    The French public enjoyed the fruits of it's Empire.
    The public likes WalMart, McDonalds, Toyota and Microsoft.

    Sometimes, the public sucks.

    Ugh!

    If you have any options - get out while you can, unless you have a goal that your reaching. I know several people who did this for a few years - but were working to semi-retirement. Hopefully you have some lite at the end of the tunnel.

    All that I've seen, is that 12 hour days makes for a dull, grayed out, life and a bunch of health problems down the road.

    My company is works the other way:

    My employees work for 6 hours per day - they're paid for 8.
    In exchange for having 2 hours of time to spend with family, avoid rush hour, and walk in the park, I expect no screwing around. Period.

    It works! They're productive and happy at the same time. I think I'm actually getting a bargain, because they work *hard* during those six hours. They get to go home and have a life.

    How 'bout joining the military. I think they will help you repay previous student loans.

    If you don't like "killing brown people" part of the military - there's the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Coast Guard.

    If you have Aspergers ( I have something like it, but much more mild) - do yourself a favor. Join the Freemasons or a group like them. The structure is there to give you support. And it's a great way to meat the type of people that could employ you based on meeting you.

    Some people have religious reason to not join the Freemasons or other fraternity - but usually those religions have a sarogote group that fills the same role.

    As for being a white male - join the club. It's is a hard load - but just think, 90% of the world would love to trade places with you right now. You may not be get a quota job, but you'll never have to wonder if you did get one as well.

    Do you need to move to a place where people with your skills are employed ?- there's not too much programming going on in Fargo, MN.

    First... good luck in getting finding employement. Better yet - start your own company.

    Secondly, are you sure you're projecting the right image. Seriously. A lot of technical gods sit around with no work to do simply beacuse they don't game the system. Gaming the system = fitting in just enought to fool people into thinking your compatint.

    Not getting the home improvement job leads me to think that there's somthing *wrong.*

    Go throught this list *honestly* with yourself.

    Long Hair -> cut it
    Shitty clothing -> JcPenny.
    Shy -> Join Toastmasters, Freemasons etc.
    Fat -> Excercise
    Grooming Problems -> Scrub

    Anyways, good luck. You sound smart, and it's frustrating that this world isen't aware of your abilities.

    It's not just the Euro/Dollar exchange rate - things produce in Europe are still more expensive when sold in Europe, after adjusting for the exchange rate.

    The cheapest BMW 3 series costs around US$ 30,000 when sold in the US - the same car sold in Europe is around US$ 37,000.

    Yes they could. Iraq has real need, with good people being held down due to those needs.

    The poor in America live in the land of oppertunity, and their plight is their own damn fault. Drugs, over-breading, lack of paying attention in school, getting fat, alcahol - 90% of the time it's their own damn fault.

    The 'poor' in America live better than the wealthiest king of the middle ages.

    They live longer.
    Their children have a better mortality rate.
    The get better food in the winter time.
    The have better clothing.
    They don't get polio, scurvy, ricketts, the plague, jaundice, bacterial infections.
    They have central heating.

    Taken against the course of history - the American 'poor' have nothing to complain about.

    Your sig is more correct than I suspect you realize.

    I did realize the meaning of my sig. It's obtuse in order to grab the attention of people who normally don't pay attention to tax-curmugeons like me. The type of people that are smart, but don't realize that freedom is better than security.

    Between taxes, and paying for high-priced insurance due to our messed up legal system, and patent scams driving the cost of goods sold - it's no wonder that it takes two incomes to raise a family, and even then, most family's are in debt.

    Modern life has a lot of problems....

    All the Euro prices are identical to the dollar prices

    The cost of doing business is *much* higher in western Europe than in the States. Hence, the higher prices - so that companies can attempt to recoup the taxes they must pay. It's not just Apple: Phillips, BMW, Mercedes and Virgin's products are more expensive in Europe - even if they are European companies.

    You didn't think that all those social services were free did you?

    Checkout Inkscape - it's Sodipodi with 80% less crashing.

    It's quite usable on Windows - were using it for production work right now. Save early and often, it does crash about once for every two hours of hard work.
