Jack Chick is a psychotic christian who publishes thses little comic books that wakos like him leave around telphone booths, doorsteps, etc in the hopes that some schmuk will read them and instantly see the light and become a wacko christian like them. To be fair, his views are usually far outside most normal christians, but make for good parody material.
They are great entertainment, if you have a brain.
Plenty of people have to choose between child care and medical insurance.
Well, maby they should have thought a little harder when deciding that having an orgasim was worth ruining their future.
I sick of anybody who can't make it in any of the Western Democracies - If you can't make it here, then you *deserve* to starve. Jesus, all you have to do around here is put down the crack-pipe, grow some dignity and get a job.
Let me give you a hint - this is the easiest fucking place to have a decent life. So much so, that we have to kick people out.
Maby we should kick the whiners out of here, and invice some of the decent people who *want* to live here and who were just unfortunate enough to be born in the wrong country.
I'm really starting to hate the stupid people who constantly have their hand out with their Gimme!Gimme! attitude. People who sit around and watch Jerry Springer, and then have the gall to blame me for their sucky life.
Oh well. Back to work. Somthing *some* people don't understand.
i also thought lotr has some racist undertones as well...i mean, the book is especially bad on this score, equating darkness of skin with evil, and fairness of skin w/ good. imagine how that makes someone with dark skin feel...
LOTR was intended to be a mythology of northern Europe, according to it's author. It's not suprising that the fairer peoples in the book are the more noble.
There are actually some devices like my Fujitsu P series laptop, that cram XVGA into 8" of screen space that are actually quite nice to read with due to their high DPI. I've spent many hours curled up with mine - they are only 3 pounds and have a battery life of around 5 hours.
So, yes, I agree that things could get better, but I think in a few years, we'll be there.
As a side note - I've taken to reading with a dark background with white text, for some reason it's easy on the eyes.
What makes used books apealing to people, is that they cost significantly less than the dead-tree-publisher bloated prices of real books. A smart author, could be sell HTML copies of his book at a vastly reduced cost and make still make a profit.
And nobody would buy a 10 cent 'used' HTML book, when they could securely and convenetly order a 'new' HTML book from the author for 50 cents.
What stands in the way of this utopia:
1) Preception by the masses that inexpensive=cheap crap 2) Many authors are locked into contracts with dead-tree publishers 3) Micro-payments are a pain in the ass.
I get the feeling that your just another euro-troll, trying to make a big deal over the diferences that make the world an interesting place.
Here's a hint for your life: atempting to make yourself feel better by draging another though the mud is only a temporary satisfaction. Perhaps you should lead a more introspective life, and perhaps this will do you good.
I assume your points were made in jest and not out of ignorance, so I won't attack the straw-man that you have carefully built for yourself.
Your average Parisian is still far removed from the thoughts of the great French thinkers - they are still consumed with thoughts of safty and comfort, and will happiliy trade liberty for them.
So yes, childish giggling aside, your average American is much more liberty minded than your average comfort/security mided city dwelling French person.
You'll note that I've made a distinction between the Parisian and non-Parisian citizens - the diferance between the two are imense and need to be taken into account when one is making generilisations.
Ah what the hell, your straw-man is too tempting..
Need we compair the paranoid Nixon and the randy Clinton to the merderous Vichey? Say whay you want about Americans, but very few of us would trade our liberty for the temporary safty of surrendering to an army of evil. Would the rest of world be so liberty minded.
Perhaps in the future, a good case could be made infront of the Supreme Court that the DCMA does stifle free speach - and this will be some of the evicence.
I tend to agree with a quote I read once: "As far as I'm concerned, your French should be bowing down to America on a daily basis, thanking us for saving your butts from the Nazis, which I'm still not convinced was that great an idea in the first place."
Don't mistake the hot words of the jerk French Socialists for the true feelings of most of people of France
Native French people are honored that we, and our allies, came to their defense and helped them in their time of need. Hell, they even have a bit of their homeland to the United States as a token of their appreciation. The gravesites of Allied soldiers from WWI and WWII are lovingly cared for.
One of the most touching things I've ever seen, was in a small church near Le Puy - inside was a chapel dedicated to the American dead of WWI. Complete with fresh flowers and a vigil candle, it wasn't a show for American tourists - there hadn't been one there for years.
If you ever have the chance to go to France, do two things: Learn a small amount of French (they'll love you for it) and travel outside of Paris (it's a completly different counry).
Surely people don't think we're a bunch of cowboys shooting everything in sight ala Homer Simpson.
Yep! I've met a lot of French people who think we're all a bunch of gun carying death-penalty xenophobes. Of course when they talk to me, they think I'm one of the rare polite Americans. It's kind fun to watch their reaction when I tell them that I'm pro 2nd ammendment, and feel we should hold criminals accountable for their actions. They just can't seem to grasp that there could be someone that holds these views and is still a decent and kind human being.
I've actually been quite sucuessfull in persuading a large quantitiy of French people that personal responsibility and personal accountability are the true choice of a Liberty seeking people.
In his article The Myth of Open Source Security Revisited v2.0 he doesen't even mention that he works for Microsoft. This conflict of interest should not be left un noticed. Here is the blurb where he attemps to pass himslef off a security expert mainly by mentioning his track record on Slashdot.

Perhaps the reason MAD works is the Assured part of it. During WWII, yor average German never imagined that their actions would lead to the devistation of their cities - but almost every Russian does know that their lives are forfit if their country picks a fight with a similarly equiped nuclear power. If there is doubt that their destruction is assured, then war will flourish. But remove the doubt and war looses it's apeal.
Unfortunatly, mankind looses it's collective memory quickly and I'm afraid that in a few years, we'll collectivly forgotten the misery of Hiroshima and Nagasaki - an sombody stupid will 'push the shinny button' and not fully realise that they just bought themselves a one-hour-delayed death sentance.
Iraq has a cretin amount of civilization. Doesn't that worry you?
If I lived in a non-nuclear country, I'd be a bit affraid of a nuclear capable Iraq, as there woulden't be any 'mutually asssured destruction' recprical attack for Iraq to worry about. As long as Saddamm loves his children more than he hates me - then I'm safe.
The only way i can explain this is that some people actually want other countries to develop nuclear capabilities.
I don't fear any counrty that developes it's own nuclear bomb - a cretain amount of civilisation is required in order to achieve such a feat. It's he countries/groups that buy their nukes that scare me.
The same corelation can be made with guns - it's not the hunter that can make his own rounds that you should fear, it's the street thug that traded his welfare check for a "saturday night special" that will wind up killing somebody.
For the "internet" to be greatly affected multiple root servers must be brought down.
DON'T WORRY! If the DNS servers go donw, you can just fire up your friendly MSN Explorer on your Windows XP box, and serf on over to Netsol.com. Then select the tab names "Whois" and type in the wesite that you want - you the can ge the IP address of your favorite Microsoft website.
When installed the new IMac looks like an octopuss. They would do well to ship bletooth keyboards and mice - if they can keep the battery requirements low.
Facing GPL'ed competition that they can't buy and assimilate - and not being able to GPL their own software without loosing their revenue stream - they are stuck.
If I was in charge of Microsoft - I'd attempt to subvert the legal/patent system in order to kill the GPL.
AMD's new multiprocessor chipset is very stable, so much so, that it pays to pay the $100 premium to get a dual processor board with it - EVEN if you're going to only put one processor in it. It has turned the AMD Athlon platform from a flaky VIA hell-hole to a somthing like the days of the Intel BX chipset days - things just work.
Origionally.. I was interested in the case mods that most Linux uses do to their boxes, but what really impressed me and my Windows using freinds, was the tremendous up-times that Linux users have.
M$ can compete with it (GPL) by crushing it. M$ has done this before.
Microsoft has lost marketshare on every product that has a robust GPL'ed (or GPL like) counterpart. Apachee owns the WEB server market. Linux is gaining marketshare robustly in the server markert and admirably in the desktop market. GCC has a huge userbase compaired to Visual.NET. Microsoft had to abandon NetBIOS/NetBOUI in favor to vast market of TCP/IP. OpenOffice is gaining in marketshare at the expense of MS Office.
I'll say it again. Microsoft's (sometimes good) products can't compeat with any robust GPL'ed competition, and will continue to loose market share with the rest of the propriatory software world. It's a good future of ours - it may be more difficult to make a buck in the computing industry, but it sure will be a lot more interesting!
Microsoft can't compete with the GPL by buying it. If they try to copy the GPL, then they kill off their legacy business in a week. MS(Hard), MS>Rock .

I don't cary what you fancy-schmancy tele-scope in space says - Jack Chick says the this here universe is only 6000 years old.
Excuse me, while I go back to the trailer.
LOL! Like it's up to the employee.
Yep it is. Either, keep beging the 'man' for work OR start your own company.
It's easy. I know it's easy, 'cause I did it. And I'm not special. In fact, I'm lazy.
America is the land of *opportunity* not the land of easy living.
Yeah. No one else works. Oooookay.
Where did I say that "no one else works"?
I hope that was a laps in your reasoning, and will give you the benefit of doubt.
