In our case, Comcast replaced copper with Fiber over a decade ago. They dug up the streets and put in new neighborhood boxes (our cables are underground).
Well I know how that feels. I've been waiting for DSL to provide decent speeds for 8 years. If the cable company has a monopoly, then there's not much you can do. I had though of using an unlimited cellular plan for three months and then going back for promotional rates but it would have been too much trouble for the amount of money saved. It's like what you have in a lot of my state. I just live in a large enough town to have options.
DSL performance tech has improved quite a bit. Last year, they started offering 14 Mbps DSL in my area. I was unable to negotiate with Comcast before then. After they came in Comcast was willing to negotiate. I didn't really want DSL but they made for a valid negotiation option. If I could get DSL at 25 Mbps, then they are more of a viable option. I would only need to use them for three months and could then go back to Comcast with a promotional rate (which I'd try to get for 2 years). Telecomm companies really hate losing customers.
Medved Trader. It costs about $800/year though you can run it for free for about a month. You also need a brokerage account with streaming quotes services. This is the follow-on to QuoteTracker which was written in the 1990s. That did run on Wine though it had about 98% support. I needed some of the things in the other 2%. I've decided to drop Medved Trader and go with Think or Swim which runs on Windows, macos, Linux, iOS, etc. It has a very steep learning curve but this will allow me to dump Windows. The programs that I need have been porting over to macos over time or I've found alternatives. I will still have the WIndows 7 VM but it won't be on my system. I will still have a few Windows 10 systems, mostly unused just in case.
I'm running Windows 7 as a VM on my Mac because I have one application that runs on Windows. But support goes away in under two years and was thinking about buying an 8.1 license while they're still available to give me another three years. This application seems to leak RAM on W10 but runs fine on W7. It would take some effort to replace the Windows application but I sometimes wonder if I should start work on it. The program doesn't run on Wine.
No, I don't. And I don't want it. I've seen and played with the Butterfly Keyboard and don't like it. My favorite Apple Laptop keyboard is from the 2008 17 inch MBP. Decent key travel, nicely tapered, very small gaps between keys.

I'm on Oxaliplatin. Touching cold things is rather painful.
I know where my mirrors are. I don't know where my camera sensors are. I have a rear-mounted backup camera. When it's cold or foggy or wet, the image is quite fuzzy. The mirror has far more surface area and I only need to clear off a quarter for them to be usable. I suppose that car makers could set up heated cameras but this does make things more complicated.
What happens when you have 1/2 inch of ice on your sensors or they get covered with mud or bird droppings? At least I can get heated mirrors or clean them off with a scraper.
Someone asked me to compare Windows with OSX and my answer is that I can't because I use OSX almost all the time. The only exception is two programs that I need to run. One of them has ported to OSX though and I will be purchasing it for OSX and running it. The other program is Windows-Only. No evidence that it will run under WINE. So I run a WIndows 7 VM on OSX to run it. It leaks VM on Windows 10. I would be so happy to get rid of Windows.
Would I move from OSX to Linux. Unlikely. Too much nice UI candy and Apps that sync well with iOS.
I put in an order a week ago and the indications are two to three weeks for the battery to get to the store. So, yes, demand is very heavy. When the program started out, the Genius Bar was booked out for a week so I guess the earlybird did get the worm. They are basically rationing out the battery replacements now. This is for my previous phone, my current phone is fine.
I have a new Camry and they offer Entune as their media/entertainment/communications. And they work really, really hard on getting you to install it. It uses your phone's cellular data plan for communications of course, so they very well may send a lot of personal information over that line. They give you two years for free and then they charge you for it. I never installed it as it's received terrible reviews and you need a wired connection to use it reasonably.
We used to do this as well. My wife and kids did this with AT&T but had to be frugal with calls and texts and no data. This past September, we bought four iPhones from Xfinity Mobile. We have four lines with them and the last bill was $8.04 for all four lines. So about $25 per line per year for unlimited voice and text and 100 MB data per month.
I had a look at the article and the rates that Canadians pay is pretty close to what those in the US pay. I think that things have improved in the US with T-Mobile starting a price war a few years ago. There are also some pretty good deals with MVNOs but I think that it's hard or impossible to beat Xfinity Mobile's deal if you use very little cellular data. They have 16 million hotspots for WiFi which works out really well in my area and rock bottom prices for unlimited text/voice using Verizon's network. It may be too good to be true over time but we're loving it for now.
What I'd like to see is more MVNOs doing this. Comcast clearly has the size to do this. I think that Disney, Microsoft, Samsung and Cisco could do something like this as well.
I upgraded a 6, Mini 2 and a 7+. The 6 and Mini 2 had noticeable performance issues after the upgrade. The 7+ seemed fine. I changed the 6 to Battery Saver mode and turned off background updates on the Mini 2 and the battery life is decent again. I will give Apple some time to fix it but I may revert back to 10.3.3 if there isn't a fix.
Yes, there is competition in the high-data-amounts and unlimited data markets but there isn't much out there in the cheap seats. But it doesn't feel like a great deal overall. Until Xfinity Mobile - we'll see whether or not they keep their low prices into the future.
Losing a carrier would be a negative for consumers.

Comcast and Charter are both down 30% in the past three months.

I'd like Focus Assist to turn off Windows Update.

What is shutup10? Sounds interesting.
I'd love to get the best of Brave and Firefox. Bring back Eich!

I have a 2014 and the keyboard is fine. My next upgrade would be a 2015. No interest in a touch bar or a laptop without enough ports.
If you don't know what Oxaliplatin is, consider yourself fortunate.

It's about three years between books these days.

You need a Mac to develop mobile apps. So Macs will be around for a while.
Never liked the Air. I prefer the MBPs. I miss the 17 inch models.

I'm on the Firefox nightly beta channel and it apparently doesn't install this plugin.
