Pinball is alive, though slightly obscure these days. I envy your pinball machine:) honestly. There's nothing like lucking out and getting a free game. I always wanted to build a pinball machine. If you didn't use a coin feed system and after you built the light sequencing devices and the score counter, it would be pretty easy, lest design and a few of the really cool mechanical devices. I'd love to have a machine, even if it was broken to see how it worked to design my own.
Anyways, with the API, why build a clone of windows in the first place? The APIs could be used heavily in the completion of fine OpenSource projects such as Wine. Is this in the name of "artistry?" CD sales are up fool. Metallica is greedy. Metallica doesn't seem to realize that they started producing what we like to call "trash" a few years ago. Metallica has hit the snooze button on their 15 minutes of fame long enough, and are looking for scapegoats. Just because someone Downloads a bootleg doesn't mean that They aren't going to buy the CD. I like to know what shell out for, before I get it. You check under the hood of a car before you buy it to see if you like what's in there, right? It's the same thing. For instance, I downloaded the MP3 of a Pink Floyd CD I really liked, so I'm saving up for it right now. If I thought that CD was trash, I would have deleted the MP3. If I own the CD, it's a fair use. If I don't buy the CD and delete the MP3, no big loss to them. Another thing is albums. I own albums I like, but I don't have a record player. Since this music has been payed for, don't I have the right to get a copy of it in another format under fair use? I'll stop downloading MP3s if you start pricing CDs fair AND let me listen to the CD before I buy it.

As for us to blame, it's your fault. Have you checked the prices of your software lately? For an NT server setup, $500. I've heard of paying $500 for Adobe software. Honestly, if you were an average consumer, could you afford this easily? It's your fault for your greed. You're just mad at us because you got burned. It's like the MP3 issue. If you price CDs more fairly, they'll stop pirating them as much!!! Adobe fotoshop is one of the most exorbriantly priced products, with NT coming in a close second. I can get a Linuxmall CD for around $3 plus postage that has all the software I need to become a web server that is much more secure, stable and even easier to set up. The GIMP is a replacment for fotoshop, and has features that are nearly the exact same as fotoshop, and I get it for free. (C) 2000 Mr Roboto enterprises, All rights reserved. Bill Gates (money for short) is trying to extract every penny out of your wallet he can. Fight back now. BSD, Linux, even MacOS. If you want DOS apps, try Lineo DR Dos. If you want windows, dig out an old ver, just don't pay for any new software from M$. If you get a new PC, try to get it without an OS. Install Linux, BSD, your old ver of windoze. as long as you aren't paying tithe to Money, it doesn't matter what you do. Anything has to be better than "renting" software and not getting to keep it. Consider this:If you rent and are forced into an upgrade cycle, they can make the software as buggy as they want. Why? Because they'll make you delete off the old version of windows when they produce an "upgrade". When your hardware gets too old to run their new version of windows, you're royally screwed. Even if there is a split, it's doubtful that the tactics will stop. Show them who really needs who.
XTs are great, I've got one and several clones. I've only got 2 computers with better cases than my XT, and one's a Z-80 and another's an 8088 too. (I swear, both have cases 1/4 inch thick. I've got a deal in the works to get an 8-inch floppy drive. if you're interested in joining the XT club, http://members.primary.net/~cholowat/index.html If you have any questions related to 486 and below comps, these ppl are glad to help out. Also, check the linx section, there are some places that have lots of share/freeware that runs on older comps.
Caldera is literally plastered with advertisments, my old S.u.S.E ver is much better (2.0.29 kernals if that says much) I've heard very good things about Slack and am going to give that a try, but I'll have to get a CD cuz I don't have the bandwith to do it in under a few hours. If you're that concerned about advertisments, ditch your Desktop enviroment or D/L another one. Remember, Prompt owns!
I borrowed a copy of IBMs viavoice from a buddy to try out from him, and it messed up everything I said. There's that breakin period and recignition stuff, but I never got it to work right. After a while, we were trying various words to see how badly it would mess up what we said. It was promptly deleted off my parent's box, even though the uninstaller didn't do a very good job, and left traces of the prog on the system. I've heard that there are better progs on the market, but havn't obtained any to try yet. If you decide to design one, please test it extensively.
The mass media outlet known as the news is good for nothing as far as this issue goes. In my opinion they are partly responsible for these events by glamorizing it. People don't really care about it, they just want to make you think so. For instance, the attorney general in Illinois (where I live unfortunately) is talking about enforcing the voluntary ratings system on vidieo games now. I hope you can get the word out about why Orwellian tactics are a bad idea in schools. I have to go. The thought police are coming to get me.
The rules of Opensource are very minimal, and encourage three things:Give credit where credit is do, keep it free, and keep people from making propritary OSes. btw, Caldera's distro relies way too much on X, and it was screwing up my box with kernal panics and Seg faults.
Without the common "thin film" type data storage we've been with for so long (MFM started major production around 83?) what will we be switching to next. There have been a few/. articles about such stuff, I'm too lazy to go and get some links, but they're there. Either way, optical storage is the future. Fof instance, there was a/. article talking about being able to have a CD that held 140 GB of data, and a roll of scoth tape being able to hold 10 GB of data. Another possibility is RAID will become common, allowing the easy use of multiple drives. I imagine this will be the temporary solution, as the above two optical solutions are a long ways away from being seen at your local PC store.
You can hear all sorts of stuff on scanners that the cops don't want you to know about. There are gangs in this area that the cops don't want to admit exsist, for instance, and there's a whole bunch of domestics a day that that never make the papers. If you don't have one already, I encourage you all to go out and get a scanner. They are from $100 to $300, but you can watch the watchers. Another thing is that they are entertaining when used at establishments such as mcdonalds or other fast food resteraunts.
It may never come, I personally won't believe it untill I see it. They could be using this as a legal ploy, to claim that there is a DVD player of alternative OSes, defeating one of the key points of the defense.
But we are rapidly getting there. They'll probally be trying to brainwash us into being happy that we got turned in, too. By the way, We don't have any rights, the teachers say "check your rights at the door", and quit frankly, they are right. We can't speak our minds, we definetly don't have due process, and the chances of our interests being looked after are very low. Take at my old school, for instance. We used to like to play Dungeons and Dragons, untill they banned it. Why did they ban it? Because it was "gambling". We never bet anything, and we never got into a physical altercation over it. Basketball was allowed, however. There were many fights with basketball, but it was okay. Even in the school handbook it says "rules may be changed at any time". They are all doing it "for your own good" too, but it isn't really for your own good. We should all call up the "anynomus tip lines" from payfones as a protest against being persecuted. I'm sure that there's a lot of these lines out there, they've got one in my town. If anyone's interested E-mail me at mrroboto@startrekmail.com I'll build a site and assign a day or something.
#1-as above mentioned Security through obscurity does not work. #2-I doubt the Mozilla devolpers are keeping their mouths shut on their own accord. Isn't DeCSS GPL? If so, DeCSS may have a chance. If this is tested in court, it will create a precedent, and that's very powerful, and potentially damaging to the MPAA.

They recently went out of the SCSI business and this probally hurt them. Now Seagate comes out with 15000 RPM hdds. This will hurt WDC among people that want/require the best performance because they don't have the SCSI performance any more and their IDE drives are currently very lagging compared to Seagate.
