It may be worth getting a table and a good 24 bit card to sample the vinyl with. I've been doing it to get away from the Loudness War. The Pleasurize Music Foundation (http://www.dynamicrange.de/) has a tool that computes the running averages of RMS and Peak loudness in your music then subtracts the RMS score from the peak score to give what they call a DR rating. Music that has been run aggressively compressed to get the apparent loudness up will score 5 or less. Somewhat less zealous compression resulting in scores of 7 or 8 on a track seem to be an unofficial industry standard. I ran it against a number of albums from the Oughties and got those kinds of scores.
They sound flat compared to mp3s I've made from vinyl. If 24 bit audio from vinyl is declicked, decrackled, and denoised with decent software before being digitally amplified to 0dB and saved to 16 bit wav and mp3ed with LAME then DR scores above 10 are common. I've had classical and jazz albums get 14 or higher. But even rock benefits. And I've found them to be more pleasant to listen to than much of my CDs.
Even though the final target is a 16 bit MP3, I record, process, and edit in 24 bits. This keeps digitally introduced aliasing and artifacts to a minimum and makes it much easier to record without either clipping the audio or getting the levels too low. There are 24 bit USB devices and I use an M-Audio 2496 PCI card. The ground plane construction of it seems pretty good at keeping noise from the rest of the PC out of my audio.
Iran is proving to be a bit retarded though it seems. The American war machine is facing being geared down. The war machine hates this and wants to keep munching on someone's ass. It gets fed well, gets to sleep in a warm bed at night and on the weekends it goes out partying. It really wants Iran to give it an excuse to chew them up into little bitty bits. If Iran doesn't think it's capable, then Iran is smoking some really good weed, and should share it with the rest of the world instead of just its oil.
They may be at that. Like many Islamic countries, Alcohol is a big no-no. But they aren't nearly as hung up on weed.
McDonalds switched from beef tallow to vegetable oil in the early nineties. They still use a beef flavoring in the oil to more less have the fries taste the same.
If the only way "good science" can be done is to deliberately inoculate people with HIV then it probably isn't going to get done. There are only about a million ethical problems with doing that.
I wouldn't get this vaccine on general principals but if I needed to use blood or blood products frequently or was a promiscuous gay then the risk/benefit ratio would shift.
That would never go over, even with fully informed and highly paid volunteers. What they ARE doing is giving the vaccine to high risk individuals and monitoring their progress. If they can get the numbers then they can look for statistically significant reduction in infections,
The big deal breaker with Amarok 2 for me is local metadata handling. I have tagged all of my files with (correct) artwork and (correct) lyrics. With a couple of extensions, Amarok 1.4 would use the local metadata and only use an online source for that information if the file didn't have it in the tags. The last few times I tried Amarok 2, it still insisted on searching online for things I specifically put in the tag.
The sin isn't unique to Amarok. I've only found Songbird/Nightgale (with some extensions) and Guayadeque do the correct thing in this regard.
It's called a USLT tag. That should be parsed before searching some lyrics site. Look for embedded artwork before searching Amazon. Libraries exist for all this. It shouldn't be super hard to implement such basic functionality but almost no players do.
In my workplace we use FOG to image Windows onto the machines. A toggle to turn off Secure Boot would not suffice. We absolutely would have to be able to sign the bootloader we are serving over PXE. Otherwise, we could be faced with imaging machines then having to manually turn on Secure Boot so the Windows machines will start.
This isn't just about Linux desktops. Many shops use Linux a LOT to make managing Windows easier. I do not fancy having to shell out for a proprietary solution that probably won't work as well as what I downloaded for free.
Or is your plan to behead the current leaders first, and worry about the real problems later?
To that end, the Koch brothers and the likes of Rupert Murdoch would be a good start. The politicians are just dogsbodies and they can mint new ones whenever needed.
More to the point, the real problem is that the so-called system of checks and balances the US has long prided itself on is woefully incomplete and the current implementation has been badly eroded by an imperial Executive.
The hyperrich who do everything they can to avoid being household names effectively decide from a shortlist who is going to hold public office. They love Republicans but offer up Democrats who won't cause them too much trouble. These people need to be checked.
In the absence of such checks, the guillotine works as well as it ever did.....as long as when we recognize we've run out of worthy bastards to feed it and put the damn thing away again.
Any child porn with live actors IS documentation of abuse. Anyone who has it is fueling that abuse. It isn't something you just let go.
I don't agree with hounding people because of nasty cartoons with children but the real thing is another beast altogether. Kids can't give consent. Servicing the market for it is a crime. Being a part of the market for it is a crime.
And anyhoo this creepazoid wasn't just getting his jollies from horrible pix....
There are large portions of the Lucas Approved original trilogy that he hasn't urinated on with trite digital cut and paste. So I can see clipping out crap like the Jabba Insertion and Han Shooting Second and substituting well upscaled footage from the Laserdisc version or other sources as needed.
I like the idea of putting the genes in lawn grass. It would give a whole new meaning to "smoking grass". And like putting it in corn could pretty much put paid to the prohibition on it.
But I think you're likely wrong about the difficulty of detection. A complement given to a good batch of weed is that it is "stinky".
You only have to make it possible to replace GNU Privacy Guard and other GPLv3 software you are using. You can still have a locked BIOS but you cannot make it impossible to replace or recompile the GPLv3 components. At worst, you can't do a Great Blob o Firmware where every single little thing is locked own tighter than a bug's ass.
Hell, before Sony pulled OtherOS out of the PS3 GPLv3 code could have been run on that platform without requiring everything to be opened up and quite a bit was still closed when OtherOS was a option.
You can still do that for any code you own. GPLv3 requirements would only apply to the system as a whole if they were used in a locked bootloader, signed kernel, or a core library like glibc. A GPLv3 utility that runs standalone will not impose the requirements you think they do.

A great deal of the barbarity was directed at those who didn't follow God sufficiently. And even the New Testament has a few things to say about those whose faith is "lukewarm". The fact is that the Bible both Old Testament and New has much to say on a range of values and beliefs. Sects tend to be divided along lines of exactly which of these values are emphasised in relation to others. Right wingers really like the stuff about hellfire, eye for an eye, God's vengeance, hideous consequences for unbelievers, conquering those heathen lands full of unbelievers, and of course prosperity as a reward to the faithful. This isn't to say they don't also believe in love and compassion but the more severe tenets that emphasise fear and might come first. Basically these people use religion to justify the more inhumane aspects of right wing thought.
Oh yeah, and OF COURSE they dismiss those who use the Bible to justify protecting the weak and poor as "liberals", "pinkos", and "commies". But then using religion to justify aspects of left wing thought can make quite the rant in and of itself.

Right-wing Christians seem to be more into Old Testament severity. While they will indeed acknowledge Christ's teachings of love and charity, this acknowledgement is conditional whether they will admit or not. The conditions are accepting their moral tenets and politics lock, stock, and peril on pain of hellfire. They have no compassion to waste on anybody they see as damned to hell. The only effort worthy of expending on such people is "bringing them to Christ". Then and only then can do they extend community, charity, and acceptance.
I once saw an a political cartoon where the minister was immersion baptising a guy into the Republican Party. Summed it up for me.
It will also allow you to dist-upgrade from a x86 system to a x86_64 system if the CPU supports it. Right now it is possible to install a 64 bit kernel and some compatibility libs on a 32 bit system but this is really only good for running precompiled 64 bit binaries. Vice versa can be done on a 64 bit system.
It doesn't allow for installing 64 bit debs. But if they can pull this off then I can upgrade from a machine that is 32 bit arch and make it a 64 bit arch.
It takes some digging but you can download an offline installer that doesn't include the "value add-ons". It is for enterprise deployments and developers.
I'm not sure about the sensor itself but a Kodak engineer did invent a prototype self-contained digital camera in 1976.

These crappy puns have been woven out of whole cloth.

MS stock these days is just a place to park cash. It's doubtful you'll lose money in the near term at least but it isn't going to be a moneymaker.
