    So what's the difference between this botnet data, an SSL connection to a bank, or an encrypted email/file?

    The answer is you can't tell, and neither can the ISP.

    I have an honest question. I'm going to assume the program is compiled into an executable, and not a scripting language like python. How do they determine if code from an open source program was used from the binary program?

    Installing this and following the instructions is how this is done by the way. It also allows you to report if the addon works or not so the author can know to only update it using a version compatibility bump.

    Herp derp. I don't understand DOM debugging tools so I am gonna assume it is malicious.

    Protip: if you're so concerned about Chrome(ium) having backdoors for Google, don't use it. There are many other browsers to choose from.

    Hint: this is a service similar to what Noscript provides, except Noscript stops them while this feature highlights where it may be possible.
