One thing that I read somewhere is that global warming is not really global, but simply an "mesurment error" because more thermometers are placed inside cities. I even recall a research wich showed that in rural (is that the correct term?) warming is hardly noticable. But then of course that article could have been sponsored by the car industry.:> J.
Sheesh, I'm seriously thinking of putting the Microsoft topic in the same place a the Amiga topic. Nothing worthwile is showing up in the discussions here. It's always open-source, (because it's free as in beer, not speech, although they say otherwise) closed-mind-Linux-above-everything crap spews out here. Frankly it's making me sick. I dislike MS, and think they have become market leaders, not because of good or even inexspenive products, but right through bullying and other shoddy methods. But I don't loathe Ballmer or Gates, actually I suspect that Gates is an intelligent geek, but sadly raised by a laywer (What would you expect out of a child who has a big cat attorney for a father?:>) Ach, why do I even bother? J.
This is simply not true. I have no idea where you got this from, or if you have some gripe against be to make it up, but Be has always treated it's developers pretty well. (Well, at least better than Apple/Microsoft, which I admit, isn't much) Sheesh!
Linus H. Torvalds on rollerblades! You know, there are uses for compactflashes other than stuffing Britney Spears on them! Goto dpreview.com or Steve's digicams and other and see why we need larger storage media. I have 48MB CF in my camera and I can fit 140 images on it. Maybe good for one day, but hardly for 2 week vacation. (Unless I get more flashes/portable storage/nearby cybercafé) And I have old 1280x760 camera, wait until I get my paws on one of those 2000x1600 cameras.. Btw, I want that Canon D30! J.
Present displays, and future ones for that matter, still have pixels that are big enough to see.. Have you seen the Roentgen display from IBM? 200ppi 16.3" 2560x2048 pixels. I'm sorry but future displays will be more like going from dot-matrix to laser in the print technology. I can't wait! J.
It's too little to late. Next generation Mobile Phones will be more like Palms with wireless networking. Right now I'm using Nokia 8210 + Palm V and connect using the infrared interface. I can even browse slashdot, although I will probably have to set up special palm account with minimal interface. Many sites already have AvantGo-ized pages, with minimal tables and graphics. WAP is horrible to set up, you need no less than NINE parameters to configure WAP service (URL, Connection type, Connection security, Bearer, Dial-up number, IP address, Authentication type, Data cell type, Data speed, User name and Password) (PHEW!) Although many of these are the same for most connections. J.
When I see kids waving their Nokia phones with the Nike swoosh as the operator logo (in icelandic, scroll down for picture), and think they are soo cool and then think that some poor kid has spent minutes drawing the logo, I feel a bit depressed. Now, I dislike Nike, and wouldn't be cought dead wearing clothes with their logo on. (Or any garments producer logo) but on the other hand I wear my Linux/BeOS/FreeBSD t-shirts proudly. Does that make me a hypocryte? I think not. I have a Toyota t-shirt which I only wear at home when no-one sees:) It's a sad, sad world we live in...and I need my coffie J.
Is this link legal? Who is to sue? Me,the poster, Slashdot, the site wich the link is on, Altavista, where the link can be found and I linked to, or galactic-guide.com where the link is?
You can share variables between them. ASP is actually quite powerful solution, it's more than You can call COM/DCOM objects (possibly Java objects too, been a while since I played with ASP) You can use VBScript for the simple stuff, or use PerlScript for those regexps. However, you are stuck on IIS/NT/x86. There is/are ASP modules available for Apache, AFAIK, but I haven't looked at them. Using JSP OTOH, is still somewhat problematic, there are some features missing, and others not working quite yet, but it has more potential for future growth, and reusability (Haven't we been promised that for years?) But enough Karma whoring... J.
I thought that the basic rul was that the customer could return product if it somewhat didn't support his needs. (With the usual disclaimers) Of course, there are stores who always have to behave like total idiots. I've bought for example NIC's that havent worked correctly with certain operating systems, and always have been able to return them for another or get a refund... J.
Well, moving projects (and companies) off shore to avoid laws, (stupid and others) obviously is a double-edged sword. If people can move cryptographic projects off shore to avoid US juristiction, why shouldn't Microsoft do exactly the same? Please avoid to be hypocryts in these matters... Hey, I would offer MS good tax/law deal to get them to my country, 20.000 jobs bring lot of taxes:>
Guerilla warfare against greedy corporations is happening. (DeCSS, Burn all GIFs, OSS etc) Our weapon is the same as in Vietnam, a invisible, distributed force. Think laywers = US Troops:> BTW, this is just pre-caffeine rant...
"It's not just another wireless, optical mouse. It's done by Apple, so it's impressive." WTF, because it's done by Apple it automatically is impressive? Ever since Apple went closed HW, they suck and suck more... J.

Just checking...
Just use something like Proxyweb and browse real html. Heck, I could even read slashdot! :)

Just nitpicking us-centric view.
Now moderate down as flamebait.
