when this goes through I will just stop watching tv. i watch maybe 5 hours a week now and i have plenty of videos/dvd's the kids can watch. without having the money to through at the politicians that the MPAA, RIAA and other entertainment monopolies have to give them they won't listen and now that all the voting systems are going to electronic ( with no security ) the country is no longer run by the will of the people as it once was but by who has the most money to thow at the politicians.

So instead of hurting big time labels and rich artists you're going to pirate the music of the poorer independent artists. They rely even more on whatever small income they can make from selling 5-10 thousand CDs in a regional market. Pirating their music doesn't help them, but buying their CD off of cdbaby.com or somewhere does. Not to mention you can stick it to the RIAA by not giving your money to their artists.

No what is happening and what the big time labels don't understand it that the indie labels are getting FREE PROMOTION kinda like listening to the radio. if the labels had embraced the technology instead of being dragged kicking and screaming ( as they are with any new tech until they find a way to profit from it. ) into it they would still have seen the slump in sales due to the economy but it would have rebounded when the economy does all they are doing now by sueing the individuals is making sure that their sales will stay depressed because they are making enimies of the very people of help feed them thier customer.

I also don't see why my tax dollars should be subsidizing this monopoly and its aging non-encrypted CD format. All they have to do is release everything on some strong DRM and casual MP3 trading will more or less cease to exist. Make all the DRM players have no easy way to line-out to analog and watch the casual "mp3 rippers" fade away. Not only that but no more CD to CD copies. Everyone can register their DRM CDs online just like they do software.

I would have no problems with this if implementing it didn't mean I had to subsidize there pockets by buying all new equipment to play these DRM'd disks and there was an easy way to rip the music I have bought and paid for to make a compilation disk ( WHICH I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO WITH MY PURCHASED MUSIC ) if implementing a DRM plan means that my rights are taken away (which RIAA wants to do) I will no longer purchase the music PERIOD. Every one has had the right to create compilation tapes/CD/ the RIAA and its associate companys should adapt there business model instead of fighting each and every new technology that comes along and eventully losing and deciding that the tech will make them more money and embrace it. ( personally i don't think they are going to lose this time they are throwing to much money around washington and have to many senators in there collective pockets. ) /end rant

Ban guns ( weapons is Way to broad ) and you also ban a legal killing.

If you ban firearms, im sure half of those easy killings would stop.

I disagree if you ban firearms I'm sure the killings will go up. after banning the firearms criminals ( who don't care about the law anyways ) Will be the only one's that have the firearms. and at this point there is no longer a deterrent to the criminal using it. where as if the criminal know that i might have a gun most Intelligent criminals think twice about putting there life on the line.

To many people that gives Microsoft the moral high ground in its battle against harwdare hackers. If less people used mod chips for piracy, Microsoft (and others) might be less inclined to go after them.

No you sound like the bunch over at RIAA and their talk about napster. "its only being used for illegal purposes and there can't possibly be any one using it legally." that frustrates me. I bought and paid for a $200 Item that is now mine. I should be able to mod it to run linux or that cool new game i bought overseas while on vacation without being called a criminal ( " the only reason you modded the device was to play pirated games") .

I bothers me that the people Legally using the mod chips are affected by the portion that uses them to play the pirated games. if i have bought an item and i choose to mod it its mine i have the right without the manufacturer coming after me ( unless i was to turn around and start selling the modded devices as my own creation. now that i would understand. ) or preventing me from using it as i see fit.

Personally i wouldn't be supprised if the policy was set up for the permanant ban on modded boxs so micro$oft was able to sell more boxes. ( If you want to play online you have to go buy a new box to get a new ID number. )
