I think AMD recent success is dues mostly
to Intel's woes. One comment I saw recently (can't remember by who) said that "Intel just keeps hitting parked cars." Quite apt really.
It's time Intel spent more time developing
chips that people want, rather than pushing stuff
that people don't want (e.g. Rambus). I for one am pleased that AMD are currently doing well.
I am disturbed by the original post. An ISP shouldn't assume just because a file has extension
MP3 it is inevitably ripped-off (illegal) music.
How about ZIP's, ACE's etc? Are they automatically Warez? Howabout.JPEG... PORN obviously. To prove it, check
this out!
Rubbish. The term Buckyballs is a corruption on the chemical name Buckminsterfullerine (C60), the most well known of the fullerines. I don't know who coined the phrase Buckyballs first, but Prof. Sir Harry Kroto certainly used the phrase on several occasions while I was at Sussex doing my D.Phil.... even before the molecule had been isolated. Not many people know this, but John Hare (University of Sussex) who was one of the first people to make C60 in bulk, made the first big breakthroughs using some old vacuum equipment and some welding kit in what was basically a broom cupboard. Amazing guy. John Hare now does lots of fun things, look at for example. Back to C60... Check out the fullerine homepage at the university of Sussex: http://www.susx.ac.uk/Users/kroto/ For some more info, the following paper is a good read: C60: Buckminsterfullerene, the celestial sphere that fell to earth, Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. Engl., 1992, 31, 111. Cheers! Tim (Tango Charlie, i.e. T.C. are my initials)
Autodesk should now consider wideningi its OS base.... especiallly now that MicroSoft has aquired Visio, the people that make IntelliCad, an AutoCAD clone.
In a recent article, Alan Cox warned of the dangers of closed source developmen, [paraphrasing] "suddenly you find your OS supplier is your competitor". If they are not careful, Autodesk might well go the same was as Borland and Wordperfect and Lotus (thinking 123)... All used to be number one in their niche... now Microsoft dominates.
I'm not saying that moving to Linux will save them, they are probably already lost, and they caused their own downfall (by only supporting Windows).
Lets see. TC P.S. Lets hope that QCad develops into a nice powerful and fast, high quality CAD/CAE package!
