    The BBC has a better explanation in their article about Airbus reissuing guidelines on what to do when speed detectors give differing results, how this may happen and why it could have caused the crash. From the article: "Meteorologists say that the Air France Flight 447 had entered an unusual storm with 100mph (160km/h) updrafts that sucked water up from the ocean. As the moisture reached the plane's high altitude it quickly froze in -40C temperatures (thus freezing the airspeed detectors). The updrafts would also have created dangerous turbulence, they say.     Where Java really fails is in the inability to trust the finalize method. At least in C++, the destructor of an object is guaranteed to be called as soon as the object is deleted.

    BBC . . . are owned/funded by the Parliament

    The BBC are owned and funded by License Fee payers (i.e The General Public). The level of the License fee is set by Parliament under advice from the Commons culture, media and sport select committee. Of course this gives Parliament some influence but to say they are owned by Parliament is disingenuous at best.

    I wouldn't worry as the conclusions are "according to industry insiders." so it is almost certainly wishful thinking rather than rigorous, peer reviewed research.

    Well the UK does indeed have this law which is one of many in the authoritys' arsenal to lock you up on suspicion rather than evidence. Whatever happened to "You have the right to remain silent . . .". We will wake up one day and find that keys to our doors only work from the outside.

    If they're not careful, pretty soon the PSP Go App Store is going to be the one making all the money.

    I don't see this happening any time soon. Like any corporation in a position of power they can treat customers with impunity. They have control over the distribution channels for the vast majority of iPhones and can thus abuse that position by enforcing draconian/imbecilic acceptance criteria. They makes the rules and if you don't want to play don't buy Apple products, this is the only way to erode their power - impact their bottom line.

A politician is a politician because he has two skills, one is his ability to use convincing rhetoric and the other is putting that rhetoric to the defence of the powerful, no matter they be the military, industry or some other interest group.

    If you have an audience that is sufficiently interested in your subject to be reading/hearing whatever material you are presenting and you are still unable to presnt your ideas in such a way that the majority of that audience understands you then things have gone wrong:

    either

    you misunderstood your audience

    or

    you don't sufficiently understand your topic

    or

    you're an inherently bad communicator.

    Of course there can be other explanations but I am talking generally here. Perhaps the ideas ARE actually extremely complex, sure these exist, but they are the exception not the norm.

    Over-simplification isn't the whole problem. Poor communication is.

    You got it right there, if you can't communicate complex ideas to interested parties outside your field then you don't properly understand your field. Intelligence comes into it but only to a point . . . why use three syllables when one will do!
