Well if someone told me ten years ago I would be using the world 'google' instead of 'search' for the web I would have laughed my socks off. Not something I do often incidentally.
Unfortunately they are much more likely to change the law making it illegal to track politicians than they are to rescind increased power/surveillance legislation for them.

Like many state-sponsored practices which are immoral, it's designed to intimidate.
Whilst slashdot readers are well aware of hackers' sudden "rebranding" in the eyes of the law I doubt some bedroom activist in China has any idea that he is now an 'illegal enemy combatant' and thus the intimidation factor is likely to be minimal. Unless of course the US really does start robo bombing suburbia.

c) reduced political complicity in the whole sorry affair
