Yeah, until Windows Home Server decides to corrupt your data. No thanks.

How many freaking plugins you running with a ReadyNAS? I run the iTunes streamer, and FTP. I don't have any problems with speed.

Transfers are OK speed with Gigabit ethernet, but I'm using it mainly to keep stuff stored long term on there.

I believe the new NAS from Infrant/Netgear (the ReadyNAS people), will have RAID 6 support. It also supports 6 drives.

Again, it's Linux based. Open source. And you can tweak it to your hearts content. Plus, they are quiet and energy efficient (assuming you use drives that are as well).

Nope. Can't go wrong with a ReadyNAS. It's linux. It's open source. It is expandable (4 TB, or 3TB RAID5). It's small. It's quiet. And its energy efficient.

No way. I do not pay subscribe to magazines or newspapers for the ads. Magazines I subscribe to right now are SOS (SoundonSound), EM, MacUser, MacWorld, Time, and some others that I can't remember right now. That is different. A free paper, fine. Ads all the way. If I am subscribing, ie: PAYING, for a newspaper that is over 50% ads........then there is a problem. Knight Ridder is the parent company (or was). Since they took over the paper in 2001(?) or so, it has become an Ad fest!

The papers in my area in California are at least 50% ads. In fact, on Tuesdays, they include this ad flyer in addition to the paper. On that day, the paper is about 70% ads then.

So, to make up for their lack of "real" content, the companies are sticking ads in there. Sad really.........I remember in the 80s that the newspaper had extremely few ads.......

    True enough.

Funny thing is, the BEST support I got from AT&T was one of the tech guys who actually came out, and decided he'd go to bat for me. He gave me his number, and his bosses, and he spent a good hour on the phone being shuttled around AT&T. One of their own employees, getting the run around. I didn't feel so bad. He did get it fixed though.....finally. Kudos to that employee.

Well, AT&T does offer static IP with their DSL service. However, if you want the Uverse service, you get dynamic like it or not. AND, you cannot have both DSL and Uverse at the same time to the same address. I got the Uverse thing sold to me that you could, then they, without notice, shut off the DSL. THEN.....calling tech support resulted in them not knowing why it was shut off. THEN, nearly a week later, I was told you cannot have both.

THEN......it took almost a month for AT&T to reconnect the DSL I had........I must have wasted a good 15 hours on the phone with them and in person with their techs (who are nice). Their phone support sucks big time.....

Which explains why Universal decided not to agree to a long term contract with Apple on iTunes. Following that sort of reasoning, shouldn't the Oil companies get a percent of every car sold? Or Nike get a percent of every sock sold? Or maybe the RIAA should demand a fee for every car sold, cause they have CD players in them? Or maybe they should do the same from Sony, and any other company that makes something that plays music?

    It is out of control.

I expect the Zune to be a non-issue when the next generation of iPods hits, which could be any time now. I used to see the Zune being pushed by Office Depot, but they don't anymore. The latest circular features SanDisk players.
