If you make it through school and you cannot "figure out" anything in the typical daily-use of MS Office you deserve to be left behind.
Is this how little faith we have in ourselves now? If we don't get a full 8 week course on Word nobody will know how to use it?
Are you assuming we all are as stupid as you are?
If someone survives highschool/college/post-grad without using Office by all means get that person - they're obviously smart enough to coexist in a world dominated by MS Office, and that shows some level of intelligence and flexibility.
I'm not sure how people can willingly mix up the differences between software and actual physical goods. The guy took something he wasn't supposed to, gave it to someone he wasn't supposed to.
Stop being pedantic and trying to proclaim that nothing was lost because it was just software. It's these asinine comments and willful ignorance that leads to things like the current state of software patents.
Currently Valve does this, and there are mechanics from within Steam to facilitate this. Games can have "Steam Play", which means if you can install Steam on that machine - you should (in theory) be able to play the game on that machine.
Any game you buy that has "Steam Play" enabled lets you download whatever version appropriate for your system. For example, Portal 2 is (or has been) releasing for Linux recently, and if you've bought the Windows version, you do not need to now go and buy the Linux version, you just click to install it while on your Linux box.
I'm really hoping developers will use this - even for their years-old games, because the point brought up a few replies back by DoofusOfDeath is true. I really hope some of the first newcomers to the Linux marketplace won't be turned off because a port of their 7 year old game didn't sell as well as their Windows counter-part did.
If you think that "working really super hard" makes art come out faster, there is a reason you're not the one making HL3. They might have already finished it, looked at the product and said "this is bad, start over", as they did nine times with TF2.
But no, please keep shouting "where is HL3!!" because it's super important to the history of the world that a single video game comes out.
The amount of impatience you show with VR and Video Games (HL3 in this case) is kind of astounding. What are you out, having to wait?

You do realize PHP function calls are more expensive than other languages right?
Why are you taking assumptions on how this person writes their code? How is "inline script hacking" not the definition of doing things the un-proper way?

I've literally never seen anyone read this and be able to intelligently disagree with the issues raised. It all just comes down to "but it works for me, you must be stupid.", which is a shame.
The very title of your comment makes it hard not to blow the whole comment away. Why do you want HL3 so bad? It's not done, them working "really super hard on it" isn't going to make art/the process/their feelings toward the game any better any faster.
I don't want to be "that guy", but a response to a Reddit AMA, with no real details or anything, is quite a stretch to put into it's own news story.
Perhaps if all his comments were collated, and this was one of them you might have some kind of story, but the summary was just about as many words as the "news story" (real big comedy air quotes here) is.
This is probably the weakest analogy you could come up with.
edit: why must I manually enter the title to every single one of my comments? why does this stupid space man do anything? why has commenting on Slashdot just gotten really bad?

Mr Three, I suggest that some, if not most of the ignorance in your post, are due to YOUR accounts being compromised because of lack of technical skill. Stop punishing us, by making us read your bad comment.
It means you still haven't read the article. (Sorry, that's rude, but seriously go have a read, you're 100% safe to visit all the terrible hacking website you want. Just don't use the hacks they sell.)

So your defense is because he didn't steal literally every copy of the code/build ever produced ever, he can get off scot-free?
Or do you just have a woefully poor understanding of the term "work for hire"?

You honestly believe this happens willy-nilly? Or whatever amusing adjective of choice you need to convey a semi-regular occurrence.
I don't want to live in your world.
Having a bad day?
Piss off?
Newsflash: AC posts uninformed and incorrect statement, remains AC.

VR is done, VR isn't out, what the hell are you trying to imply by this?
That VR must be adopted as fast as the car?

Hangouts has been doing this for a bit now, it's exactly the same as imessage or What'sApp.
