What do you know? A non-IT guy for CTO. Brilliant. Now THAT is hope and change!
Oh well, I guess we should be getting used to these shockingly bad decisions by the Obama administration. What's next? Emeril in change of the military? Norman Schwarzkopf in charge of healthcare? Ann Coulter in charge of the HUD (oh wait, she's not eligible, she paid her taxes)?
Maybe the solution to solving our government's technology problems is to just throw another trillion dollars or so at it. I mean, what's another trillion when we've already spent $12.8 Trillion? That'll only bring Obama's deficit to like 83% of our GDP instead of 80%.
Ya know what, for good measure, if $1 Trillion is good $1.5 Trillion is better -- let's do that and create and require the unionization of IT workers. That's what we'll do! It'll be patriotic!
Is it 2012 yet?
Well -- as a politician why do you have to bother make sound economic decisions? Remember, Barack Obama and the congressional democrats will be passing legislation to 'bail out' NYS and other havens of idiocy in the first half of next year.
The problem is that we refuse to make hard choices and elect short-sighted politicians who allow us to continue to dig ourselves a deeper grave by offering us free handouts and putting us into a state of denial.
To make things worse, we've decided to let these same people run the entire country.
While the conservative, blue collar parts of the country have been able to support our welfare state for a while its all starting to come to a head -- where is the money going to come from when we are ALL a part of the welfare state?
Yeah, and with the mass migration of stupid NYers to places like NC its only a matter of time before those states are destroyed by backwards liberal politics as well. Just look at the results of the past election.
If we know anything its that history repeats itself.
I love how New York State is operating in fantasy land.
They recently went to the federal government and asked for $7 billion dollars to bail them out and cure the gigantic budget deficits they have been running for years because of their ridiculous, overpriced, democratic, pseduo-socialist government structure.
You would think that a state asking for $7 billion dollars in federal money would make an effort to REDUCE spending -- but not New York! Amazingly, the newly proposed budget represents a 1.5 percent INCREASE in spending without substantial revenues to make up the difference (or the outstanding gap). How does this make sense?
Well, when NY and the other blue states heading towards bankruptcy can expect a bailout from everyone's favorite president-elect, why curtail spending? We'll just dump the costs on the more efficient states who have been conservative with their spending. Makes a ton of sense, right?
At least we can all be comforted that we've now elected the same morons who have destroyed NY to the federal government. Who's going to bail out America when it goes bust?
Well --- if you voted for Obama b\c you wanted his "valuable" health care program you would be stupid. His health care plan will cost you more than buying a health care plan costs you today.
It may not be in the form of a direct 'Bill' -- it will instead be in the form of a) much higher taxes b) a weakened economy and c) inflation.
Sounds like a great deal to me!
I would pretty much say so.
Why would we grant constitutional rights to foreign POW's caputred during the course of a war? What's next, are we going to allow them to file a civil suit against the US government? This is crazy leftist insanity at its finest.
Do we now subject our soldiers fighting in a WAR to the same scrutiny that we subject our cops to that are arresting common criminals?
Lawyers love this kind of BS b\c it just means more money for them filing ridiculous lawsuits. The sad problem is that in the over-litigous society that we live in we not only allow this but there is a large percentage of the population who thinks its completely logically pissing away our tax dollars letting the ENEMY in a WAR sue us.
Antonin Scalia's dissent says it all and I suggest you all read, especially the Bush haters, before passing judgement.
Great -- so now the FanBoys can have TV on the iPhone. Too bad it runs on such a slow network.
What a waste. That thing is as revolutionary as Barrack Obama.
Any corporation who rolls out the iPhone in its current state is absolutely batsh!t crazy. It is simply not a business device -- it is a multi-media phone that does 'email' (and poorly at that).
That's it.
Maybe things will get better with the new release later this summer but I'm skeptical. In general apple misses the boat when it comes to business users so I don't expect much (and neither should you!)
I disagree with you --- you wouldn't need to run business software with the users set up as admin / power user if the damn companies that made the business software had programmers that new what the hell they were doing ---
THEY are the ones at fault here. They had three+ years to change their code and make it more secure. If they chose not to / still require admin / root, then they are the problem --- not Microsoft --- and they should be condemned (or at the very least your business should move away from their software or fire the admins that choose to implement it).
I don't have a problem with Vista using more resources. If you have decent hardware, the speed it not an issue. Besides, the added security is worth every clock cycle. If anything you should bash Microsoft for their 'minimum' system req's for Vista (which are too god damn low). Problem is that most people run Vista on inadequate hardware and bitch b\c of the speed --- stupid --
Would you rather go Microsoft lock you into hardware and force you to upgrade your ENTIRE system when you decide you want a new feature / better hardware components? I would think you'd bitch about it if they did that --- b\c I mean, thats apple's business model and they'd just be copying "brilliant" ideas from Cupertino --
Right, I totally agree ---
But who's fault is it that you don't have a driver? Microsoft's or the dumb 3rd party that made your printer / scanner / copier / etc that doesn't care about you as a consumer enough to make a new f'n driver. THEY would rather see you buy a new one --- and you probably will. HOPEFULLY just not from that manufacturer b\c they'll do that BS to you again --
Your other choice is to use OS/X and be as closed as possible in your hardware choices --- grrr, frustrating aint it?
The interesting thing in the article that no one mentioned (and none of the Microsoft bashers at Slashdot ever want to mention) was this blurb:
"When it debuted last January, incompatibilities were rampant--in part because hardware and software makers didn't feel any urgency to revamp their products to work with the new OS. The user account controls that were supposed to make users feel safer just made them feel irritated."
Vista was in Beta for over 3 years. Microsoft gave 3rd parties FOREVER to modernize and get used to the new UAC --- but they dropped the ball. Poor, cheap, no-nothing 3rd party developers that can't figure out how to write a program that doesn't run as admin / root are the biggest problem with Vista. Microsoft did everything in its power to force these idiots to change --- but they failed --- and now many of those some idiots (including a lot of you that post on slashdot) blame Microsoft for poor compatibility.
You bitch for years about poor security. They give it to you, and you now bitch about incompatibility. What do you want?
Seriously -- shame on you slashdot.
Anyone who thinks that moving from Vista to XP is an upgrade is an idiot. It's amazing how many people hate Microsoft so much that they won't pause for two seconds to think objectively about what is placed in front of them and then make a conclusion.
For YEARS people bitched about the security problems in Windows -- many of which have been corrected in Vista --- and NOW, people do nothing but bitch about the fact that Vista has issues caused by a change in the way security is done at the core.
Just b\c 3rd parties and dumb windows programmers have written and refuse to correct crappy, unsecure code doesn't mean that the OS is bad ---
"MS will never be able to compete with Apple or Linux when it comes to security."
The people who think that Microsoft is less secure than Apple or Linux don't really know security or the security market well at all. They simply have formed an opinion by listening to fanboys, advertisements and the uninformed.
The average linux / apple system in production is no more secure than the average microsoft system ---- in reality they BOTH have tons of vulnerabilities. IF (and thats a BIG if) a linux system is configured properly, including SE Linux, etc. and all applications are tuned to use this --- then it would be MUCH more secure than anything Microsoft or Apple puts out...
That said, 99.9% of people do NOT secure their linux systems any more than they take care of their microsoft systems or their apple systems and they are ALL just as vulnerable to directed attacks.
People who buy MAC / Linux for the 'security benefits' are simply deluding themselves into thinking they've improved anything. All they've done is increase administration and application costs and given themselves a management headache.
There IS a place for Linux in the corporate world. There is also a place for Microsoft. I'm not so sure about Apple ---
Holy COW! Apple has design flaws? Critical patches within the first 30 days!
All you crazy idiots that condemn Microsoft for this stuff should be slamming Apple just as hard....... but you won't, b\c you fanboys are just a bunch of hypocrites.
Anyone who buys into the "Apple" mindset really should have their head examined...... its pretty much as idiotic as considering voting for Hillary Clinton for President in '08.
Why is anyone surprised by this?
After the iPhone security abomination and Apple's history of security vulnerabilities (remember that WiFi mess?), why would we expect that Leopard would be secure on release?
OOOOOOH!!! MICROSOFT BSOD IN WINDOWS 95!!! OOOOOHHH PING OF DEATH!!!! OOHHHHH, MICROSOFT BAD AND UNSTABLE!!!!
Give me a break. Server 2k3 / XP / Vista are as good or better than any competing OS when it comes to stability.
What do you know, more stuff from Apple that disappoints / breaks / sucks.
I can't believe how many idiots out there have bought Apple products! The iPhone is junk. Looks like this OS is junk. It's amazing how stupid people are.
Or can we actually expect a good product from Apple for the first time?
Given Apple's track record, I'm going to guess this is probably terrible and full of security holes. Great job JOBS!
Only idiots and fan-boys buy apple computers --
Is it 2012 yet?

Umm -- simple answer, don't access trusted information from an untrusted terminal? You can have no expectation of privacy while using that machine.
or other crappy Apple applications to my PC in order to use it? If yes, then no thanks.
You're using remote desktop to connect to your LAPTOP to do work at night and you're concerned about physical security?
But the iPhone is less like a Ferrari and more like a Geo Metro --
For business users connecting to corporate networks the MacBook Air is about as useful as the Pet Rock.
For home users, the MacBook Air is much 'sexier' and therefore superior --- that is, if you buy into the closed-source Apple fan-boy world.
You're right! OS/X is totally secure b\c you didn't see any 'bad stuff'. You must be a security guru -- Keep burying your head in the sand --
