I was a bit confused after reading this article. I don't understand why this is a bad, or good thing for Microsoft to set or force this standard. I figured reading several Score 5 insightful posts would explain, but I am still left wondering.
These companies gouge and placate their "valued" customers. They only care about just how far they can reach into our pockets. So here they are now scrambling for a bigger piece or to protect their monopolistic cartels.
Put it in their home for a month and re-visit the matter. Sure Vista is the least fun of all operating systems but Linux is not going to take it's place. I used Linux as my primary OS for years, and until there is mainstream software and hardware support it will not make substantial inroads in the home. I switched because there was no Quicken/Quickbooks support. I know there are other options but none as polished as Inuit's. I finally ended up with a MAC:)
I think this is just the angle that could create such a disgusting model of greed. ISP's are not going to take a strong stance on the issue, they have been looking for any way to profit more and control the masses. This kind of stuff stifles freedom of information, sets a precedent, and creates a have and have not structure. I am so pissed when I read stuff like this.
I think it's their responsibility to provide public phone service for whatever reason, emergency or not. They have the resources and revenue to provide it.
Right, and that's what MS needs more revenue. They began with; software should not be free and lacked the insight to embrace any other viewpoint. Their single minded beliefs remind me of Natzi Germany. It's fine if you want to take over the world.
