I was away all day, but to get back to you...
I actually have very few drivers annoyed with me, but I do see the cyclists that would cause undue frustration. As a cyclist, I've almost been hit by cyclists not paying attention.
Bikes existed for centuries before cars, so your idea of history is a little off at best. I'm unsure of your location, but in Ontario, all roads, other than designated highways, are available for cycling.
In Ontario, it is also illegal to drive on the shoulder (outside the yellow line) and while I'm fine with cycling at the right hand of my lane, you apparently would be surprised how many people would like me to bike on the gravel to the right of the shoulder. Of course, maybe you wouldn't, since your implication that by cycling I've opted to kill myself is the problem. Your desire to ride a car is a privilege and you are required to share the road with all other modes of transportation. Getting caught behind a bike on a one lane road can be frustrating, but the onus is on the passer to wait for a gap, just as if the bike was a slower car, or tractor.
Most cyclists aren't exactly happy that they get stuck next to vehicles that weigh more and travel faster. While most drivers are reasonable and respectful, it only takes a few to make life miserable for all cyclists. Cars that expect bikes to ride on the beat up shoulder (which is illegal in my neck of the woods, on top of being uncomfortable) or that want to 'share' a lane built for one vehicle (by share I mean nearly clip you with their mirror). So please understand why cyclists feel the need to drive a little defensively, because when that collision happens, it sure as shit isn't going to be the guy in the car that dies.
Worse than that, if someone wanted info on say a political rival, it could be picked up without warrant or cause. Suggestive emails, questionable surfing practices, curious online purchases? Who knows, until we go over your details.
The problem is they report every new report as truth without weighing the conditions or certainty levels associated with a report, in particular when it directly counters previous obtained information.
Only if slashdot kept their company registered in the US. Plenty of room in less crazy countries. Good luck enforcing a law that ridiculous everywhere.
And the current prime minister effectively convincing the electorate that a coalition government is some sort of dirty commie trick, except that a) it's legal and b) almost every other parliamentary democracy in the world requires coalitions to function at which point, people have to make compromises, which is the big problem with out current parties, they hate compromises.
I get a paper receipt from an ATM and the bank gets a copy of all the transactions. Please explain why Dielbold can't make that happen for an electronic voting both.
And what they do for the company. Protect their patents, bring commercial theft to court, build the roads and utilities to their compounds, enforce international treaties, enhance the very free trade that allows corporations to threaten to move everything if they are expected to pay their taxes.
I agree entirely. Just responding to the parent's ridiculous black & white universe assertion. In a world where only right and wrong exist, guessing would be as good as being wrong.
You're wrong of course and don't worry I'll skip classy words. But for the sake of argument, I will assume that you always know what is right (or in a topic where you are unsure you keep your trap shut until you receive clarification) and do what is right, otherwise you're a huge asshole and why would anyone follow your opinion if that were the case. That being true, please clarify why if right and wrong exist, and you know what the right solution is 100% of the time, why are there so many people that do the wrong thing? How can you be sure that the other opinion is wrong and not your own, in particular when you are in a minority? If my original assumption is false and you don't do the right thing 100% of the time, do all people do the wrong thing consistently? If not, then it would appear that a myriad of solutions (or shades of gray) are prevalent.
So to recap, either a) you are all knowing, but not all powerful or b) you're wrong.
I didn't know that defendants and plaintiffs had to identify themselves as republicans or democrats.
I guess you learn something new on Slashdot everyday.
Not to mention the massive selling records of Shania Twain, Celine Dion & Alanis Morrisette (over 30 million people that aren't me bought at least one of their albums).
Or wise up to people dropping cable subscriptions as they access tv programs online. The premium movie channels are dependent on people having cable in the first place.
I thought hey meant 50 hours a week at first. They aren't even talking an hour a day here. Every kid I know plays video games more intensively than this.
Biking on the sidewalk is actually statistically likely to lead to a higher rate of collision http://www.toronto.ca/transportation/publications/bicycle_motor-vehicle/index.htm

IRL won't exist in 2050

Not only does BMI not account for muscle, it doesn't account for width. A wider (shoulder width, not stomach width) person will weigh more.

Anytime I hear "hearts and minds" I think Bush II.

Just like all the high quality, unique content in the paid for print versions?
The point had nothing to do with Wikipedia, but with the poor journalism practiced by people that purport to hold themselves to a higher standard.

Speaking of gold plated parachutes, how about ceos getting golden parachutes worth hundreds of millions (after making tens of millions a year)?

And no movies were ever pirated again.

Or have never payed for any legal transaction, food, education, taxes, interest, etc. Your idea of what has value is ridiculous
