  1. The USA is always behind Japan anyway... on Sony Denies PS3 Delay · · Score: 0

We have almost always had video game boxes months or even a year after they get them in Japan. The story is the same with the games, of which we only seem to get 1/10th or less. Maybe Microsoft is forcing Japanese companies to reevaluate their release policies. It might be nice if Japan started putting the USA (their best customers!) a bit higher on the pegboard. This is the one good thing Microsoft has ever done, even if they didn't mean to.

  2. Re:Halo redefines the FPS clone...? on Halo 2 Only on Vista · · Score: 0

I agree. And I must say, that Halo would have given Tribes a run for its money, if they had released it on time for the Macintosh. But instead, the Microsoft cock was far too tempting, and Bungie released Halo 5 years too late for it to be anything other than another team play FPS.

Let's go over the salient points:

Map size: Advantage Tribes! Maps can be enormous!

Number of players: Advantage Tribes! Back in the heyday of its popularity, I have played 120 player games! MADNESS!

Equipment choices: Advantage Tribes! Three armor classes (or many more including mods), many more weapons, and better balance.

Depth of play: Advantage Tribes! You can be a vital member of the team and never fire a shot. You can be a suicide bomber. You can crash your vehicle into somebody and hilariously kill them. You can freakin' FLY!

I haven't played much Vengeance yet, but Tribes and Tribes 2 were both so far beyond Halo and Halo 2 that it's not even funny. The expansive outdoor environments and often hilarious situations, the choices of armor and the mobility and sheer size of environments put Tribes and Tribes 2 in a class of their own, even almost 8 years after original release!

Halo, innovative. Only the ignorant or insane could make such a statement.

I know that it exists already. If somehow Stem goes offline, a CD that you bought in the store wouldn't work in your home computer. If you need to reinstall the game, there's no guarantee that a binary downloaded through Stem will be re-installable.

I think that the entire idea of games that need to check in over the internet is repugnant. Maybe if they were offered at a substantial discount, I could see them being an alternative. However, as of now there's no guarantee that anybody will be playing Half Life 2 ten years from now.

This ultimately reflects quite poorly on the politicians themselves, which is a GOOD thing.

I don't understand the anti-Wikipedia backlash that has become popular in the past year or so. Bad edits and vandalism usually don't survive more than a little while.

And Mac users don't have to DO anything to protect themselves. In fact, they have to take action to make themselves vulnerable to attacks!

    It's not a monopoly. It's a single source solution.

A monopoly is a legal position that a company can find itself in. Just because you can only buy OS X for Apples doesn't make Apple a commodity.

Apple is doing what Apple thinks will help Apple gain more profit. They tried selling the OS on commodity hardware, and nearly went out of business. Next tried the same thing, and DID go out of business for the most part.

Steve Jobs learned his lesson from those mistakes, and until Apple is declared a legal monopoly there's nothing that anybody can do about it, except for Steve.
