This law, if passed, and the DMCA are making it likely that the USA will become a technological third world. The IEEE is already up in arms about the DMCA, I can only imagine how they'll recieve this. People, I hope that the DMCA gets repealed, and this law doesn't pass. If the current trend continues, however, I'm going to pack up and get the hell out of the USA. I'm sure I'm not alone here - if i truly have to choose between leaving the country, giving in to the machine, or going completely underground, I'm going to Finland. Or somewhere.
Please, call or write your senators and congresspeople about this one. I hope that there are a few good lawmakers out there who see the light, but I am not holding my breath.
Linux doesn't suck. I am so sick that it hurts from constantly hearing about how Linux isn't ready for the desktop. The majority of Linux desktops aren't very mature, but I don't hear you bitching about the fact that Windows (XP,2000,ME,98,98SE,95) is great at 1 thing only (segmentation faults) and basically OK at all the others (Ease of use, etc, etc).
I for one am happy that when my GUI crashes (almost never regardless if I am using KDE or Gnome or Enlightenment that day) it doesn't take down my DNS, my web server, or anything else important for that matter. It's just a matter of a CTRL-ALT-BKSP and a startx at the bash prompt.
Plus now that Tribes2 is out for Linux, I really think we have a killer app on out hands:)
It's obvious why a company would release their code under a nominally open source license - they are looking for geeks to improve their code for free. Equally pathetic are the licenses of Inferno and Plan9: Bell OWNS your code, if you make any "improvements". Sun pulls this same kind of monkey business with their community source license, if I'm not mistaken./*Rant
People don't want to code for(not ON) a license-hampered OS in their free time, because there is not much of a sense of satisfaction in helping a large corporation for free. Netscape, Apple, and all the rest including Microsoft are attempting to beguile us with their so-called embrace of open source. Fuck that!

This is exactly what happened when the gnome project was formed to compete against KDE because of QT's awkward licencing restrictions. Gnome is a successful project. Many happy users, myself included, use gnome instead of KDE on principal. So put that in your microPipe and smoke it.

One of my buddies who works in a computer lab with a bunch of macs was playing around with OSX server (commercial release, not beta) and locked it by browsing the web. I laughed pretty hard about that one.
I don't think most government buildings where I come from are rusted at all. They are constantly erecting new shiny ones all over the place. In addition to that, I don't think that by throwing money or decorations at any given government building, one could improve it in more that a visual manner. i just ate 3 pounds of combos and drank 2l of jolt, so I mean business!
I always thought they looked like a pepperoni pizza, myself, but to each his own.

The Government has already pumped several billon dollars into researching nuclear propulsion. From the SLAM home page (check it out):

Also, the Brookings institute has a lot of information on nuclear propulsion projects:

You forget the 1 feature that will appear on the PS3 for developers and gamers alike: a small expansion bay right on that side to hide your weed in.
Does Gnome work? Yes. I use gnome with freebsd. So do many others, i'm sure. Where did you get the idea that it doesn't work?
