Ears may be good for passive video identification. Before long, I might have to start modifying my ears with clay in order to get through airport security.
Last time I checked, the USPTO is part of the U.S. Government. Can't they be reigned in and required to stop issuing patents on genes in the first place, or are they completely out of control?
When you have access to virtually unlimited budget and manpower, you have to be creative when coming up with new ways to expand your empire. I think homeland security in the U.S. and the U.K. would be much more efficient and quite possibly more effective if we cut their budget by 50%.
If Google ditches Windows, it will pressure them to back and/or develop a viable alternative, by which I mean an operating system that will run ALMOST ALL the applications (or equivalents) that I use on Windows. Today, I'm stuck with Windows unless I want to give up some of the software that I use regularly. There are a lot of reasons that more Windows competition is good for PC users, and this may be a giant step in that direction.
We should be working out how to drive faster, not slower! Sure, it would be safer to ban driving altogether, but most of us prefer to travel expediently.
It makes you wonder how many times over the past 150 years people have been suckered into investing in machines that (allegedly) violate the law: energy can be neither created nor destroyed.
You can fit a curve to one set of data. It does not follow that all other data sets will be similar. There are huge differences in the environments here -- enough to put a BS stamp on this article.
Spare me! New Scientist == National Enquirer for Pseudo-Science. This process would take many times more energy that the resultant fuel could ever produce.
Three steps:
1. Exercise the brain - programming, chess, etc.
2. Exercise the body - running, biking, etc.
3. There was something else, but I forgot it.
(1) It's not a placebo if the doctor explains what he is prescribing and why. (2) "Headache pills," or more specifically NSAIDS, frequently help a wide variety of conditions. This is hardly a placebo. (3) A patient who keeps pressing for additional treatment can expect to recieve prescriptions less directly related to the ailment.
I suspected as much. Getting on the ballot in all 50 states is an early priority in any national election campaign. Even politicians can figure that out.
This would be hard to enforce. Parkers could get around this by making an random web site (maybe a single photo and link) for each parked domain.
I like 1&1. They also have free usable DNS for domains registered elsewhere.
I guess I should get one of these for the enhanced pat-downs: http://www.nuttybuddy.com/

This is so simple it does not merit a patent. 15 minutes design time will cover it, 30 minutes at the most.
I will have to make sure and get my Apple news from Gizmodo in the future.

Carry a GPS, record the track. (This only works if you're really legal.) http://xpda.com/ticket/

This is amazingly similar to the educational programs and revised "history" that the Soviet government forced on its citizens.

I don't believe people get the shakes from fat withdrawal. (By the way, this photo came from fatty, well-marbled beef.)
I'm seeing about 12% of IE users (6% of all users) on IE6. Almost none on IE5 and below. I would say dump IE5, but make IE6 usable at a minimum.

Didn't John Hunter work on a land-based project like this in the 1980's?

If you choose to patent software, may the fleas of 10,000 camels infest your armpits.

What's all this about an electoral college? Doesn't the U.S. Supreme Court select the President??
Music, Movie, and TV companies paid Joseph Biden $178,358 (plus $193,310 from lobbyists) 2003-2008. But that is just a coincidence.
Z6 is nothing. I've used a Z80 before.
