I used to have pet mice, and they were too smart as it was. They would always manage to find a way out of their cage, no matter how hard we tried to prevent it.
Am I the only one that immediately thinks "cheap software" when I see a small box or just a CD-case standing alone? It seems that the only things sold those two ways are the $9.95 discount software CDs... this could have something to do with it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who equates little or no packaging with cheap, inferior software...
Note: I'm not saying that I SHOULD think like this, it's just my initial reaction because that's the only thing I've ever seen packaged like that.
A good portion of the newer computers that I have run into aren't noisy at all. In a room that has even a little bit of noise, you can't hear the computer at all. If it's totally silent, you may be able to hear the fan, or the hard drive working, but really, is it that much of a deal?
This has been said one million times already, but apparently no one notices those posts. So I'll repeat it.
People do use Napster to download music they don't own and don't plan to buy. THERE IS NO LOSS INVOLVED IN THIS THOUGH. These people wouldn't buy the CD in the first place, so there is no sale for the record companies to lose! Then there are the (admittedly few) people who buy music they heard from a download off of Napster. This would MAKE the record companies money. So, we have no losses, but a slight gain in revenue.
Oh, and about the bandwidth thing... I believe Napster recently released a utility to limit the bandwidth that could go towards Napster.
One difference, we have politicians who will do anything to get reelected. If we can (somehow) convince the general public that all those are Really Bad Things, then the politicians are soon to follow.
Yeah, politicians listen to corporations, but that's because of the contributions to their election campaigns... but the politicians use those campaigns to get... votes! So votes are really what they're after... and if they're pissing off the public, they're not going to get the votes they desire.
Now, I know convincing the public is *MUCH* easier said than done, but at least it's POSSIBLE to make some change here.
I grabbed one of these files off of Gnutella this morning, actually. Much to my surprise, when I opened up the ASF, it launched IE and threw me at sightsound.com and wanted me to pay $9.95 for the movie.
Oh, but that's not the worst part. It was for *one view*. Yeah, that's just a BIT overpriced.
I had the misfortune of running across one of these files on Gnutella. It's HARDLY a reasonable price. Get this - It was a ONE VIEW deal, and they wanted $9.95 for it. *$9.95*
If that's not a 'high price', I don't know what is.
I don't think he was talking about the picture when he was talking about it dealing with shaking. I think it was more along the lines of "How is it going to write to a CD if your hands are shaking all over?"
Gee, I wonder why the PSX2 games aren't greater than the DC games... How long has each system been out? Hmm? Yeah, that's what I thought.
Anyways, now that I've said that, I *DO* own a DC, and I'm planning on buying a PSX2. It is all about the games, as you said, not the hardware. Eye candy is only important for games that have no plot. (racing games, fighters, sports games) Hell, I'm still a big fan of games with *NO* graphics.
On a bit of an even more offtopic note, the thing I'm looking forward to about the PSX2, is the RPGs. The Dreamcast is seriously LACKING in this area ('cept maybe for Shen Mue), and I already see some very promising titles in the lineup for the PSX2.
The average price in Chicago may be 2.06... but the average price in the northwest suburbs of Chicago (where I am, unfortunately) is more like $2.16 *sighs* Oh well, good thing my gas guzzler isn't around to see these days.
On a couple lighter (and even more off-topic) notes, this isn't too much of a problem considering I don't drive very far... and it *IS* fun to make fun of those people driving their 9mpg SUVs =)... plus, our stock in BP/Amoco is going up! =)

Napster could probably get a pretty strong argument against blocking song names. I'm sure there are MANY songs with the same names, some of these bands are RIAA puppets, and some are little garage bands in North Dakota. Blocking by song name will affect the legal downloads too much. (Yeah, it's there, honestly!)
I suppose they could have it block by band name, but still... say there was 'Free Band - I hate metallica because they're total sell outs.mp3"... I don't know how they're thinking of pulling this off:/
So they're doing something about people using cell phones in airplanes... they say it's dangerous. Well what are they going to do about people using cell phones while driving?!?!. That's sure as hell dangerous as well! I'd like to see some laws saying THAT'S illegal.
Actually there are a couple cities that HAVE made it illegal to drive while talking on a cell phone. But that's only an extremely minute fraction of the total amount of cities... they should make something like that nationwide/worldwide
Mods, if you haven't read his books and don't know that mice are the smartest creatures on Earth
Hm, so they must just be letting us THINK that we made them smarter.... Ingenious.

Downtime of even 12-14 hours? That's still pretty unacceptable. I've been using yahoo mail for quite some time now, and it's NEVER been down on me.

Ths PSX2 has Squaresoft developing for it. Right or wrong, that's going to make one huge difference.
