How would making domain registrations more expensive help any? It would just make it harder for Joe Schmoe to get joeschmoe.net, and just further push the corporate element of the internet...
Sure it would cut down on squatting, but it would harm much more than it would hurt.
This is good. This is the type of thing that the organizations are meant for. The problem arises when someone has www.coke.fu.bar and has a site dedicated to cocaine on it, and Coca-Cola gets pissed off and wants it... and is willing to *ahem* persuade the people in charge to get their way...
A little bit after I posted that, I closed IE and an error box popped up saying IE had performed an illegal operation and all that jazz... hah. Mebbe I was wrong;)
Does anyone find it rather, er, shall we say.. interesting... that Microsoft is not only trying to invade the console market, but the DTV market as well?
Hooking it up to a cell phone may seem strange to us, but according to TheGIA:
Concurrent with the PS one confirmation, Sony announced a special adapter cable that connects to PlayStation products (PlayStation, PS one, and PlayStation 2) and lets users go online via a mobile phone. The cable will be available this winter and, according to Sony, permit users to "download information, entertainment content and software programs in addition to exchanging data with other users." While this may seem odd, more people in Japan go online via their cell phones than any other communications medium, so cell phone compatibility is a feature many new consoles are eager to implement.
They also have an interesting article on the PSX2's hard drive...
In Shadowrun, the big thing that gave the MegaCorporations all the power was the Shiawase decision. This court ruling decided that the corporate complexes had extraterritoriality -- basically that they were considered as different nations. This posed a real problem, because then the megacorps could get their own armies, make their own laws (while breaking everyone elses), etc. The government could do absolutely nothing about it.
Yes, all this stuff about games being cultural and the like is right, but that's really in the games that not very many people are exposed to. (Or at least not the people who are saying games are the Devil's work).
A good portion of the "good" games are RPGs, which these people don't have the motivation (and usually the time) to really get into... and if they play the games at all, it's probably not for very long. This poses a bit of a problem, because they don't get to see any of the story of the game.
Take FF7. Quite possibly the most popular RPG ever, definitely a target of someone who wants to 'find out what's going on'. You start the game out fighting men with guns and blowing up a reactor. Look at the values there!
If these people would actually sit down and play the games (or stop just looking at FPSs and the like), then maybe people's view of them will change.
This would never happen though, because there isn't and would never be beatiful 18 year old females playing muds...
You're wrong. I dated one. It was sure as hell one nice surprise when I went over to her house and saw her MUDding =)

Hm... Text adventure... mobile phone... When are we going to be able to MUD on our cell phones? =)
-- Dr. Eldarion --
Good analogy, but I was thinking more along the lines of a freight train.

I wonder if the AARP will jump on the bandwagon as well... now *THATS* something to be afraid of *G*

WIPO... WIP-O... WIP(e)-O(ut)... WIPe-Out... Wipe-Out. See, even the name of the organization is on your side...

I agree. I find IE to be one of the few good-quality things that MS has put out.

Oh come on, how many times have any of you seen Hackers?
The answer to your question is simple... to rip on it =)

(regarding the subject)
I have a shirt that says 'I want my MP3'... it looks like the MTV logo, I almost died laughing when I saw it =)
-- Dr. Eldarion --
Hah... At first glance I thought you said "Imagine if Natalie could reproduce once a minute".

More like $450, but that's besides the point. Anyways, that's maybe two weeks pay for me. Not a big deal.
-- Dr. Eldarion --
Give it a year, and see what's going on. I can almost garuantee the PSX2 will blow you away.
-- Dr. Eldarion --
So far there is no battery, and it requires an AC connection... with this being a portable device, though, I'm sure they'll be coming out with one.

Magic doesn't work in focus groups
;) )
No, actually magic works better with groups of foci.
(anyone who's played SR as a magician should know what I'm talking about

Sometimes they don't just waste bandwidth... I've actually had my cursor become all jumpy because of those damned animarions.

Hey, I once got laid BECAUSE of an FPS, so that's not quite accurate ;)
;)
Well, I'm sure it would have happened anyways, but beating the tar outta her in the FPS just gave us an excuse
Allright, that was WAY more of my personal life than any of you needed to know, I'm sure. I'll shut up now.

Ah, but LSD did influence culture. Haven't you ever watched the Teletubbies? That's obviously a product of LSD...

Does anyone else find it kind of amusing that the link was slashdotted?
