The people involved in this case apparently didn't want to pay the $24 a month to get access in their room -- they thought they would just freeload by running a cable up to their room.
Why, then, is their reaction so insane? What's the difference between this and, say, running your neighbors cable into your own house? Both are examples of people taking a service that they aren't paying for, which, if I recall correctly, is theft... and illegal.
If I remember correctly, the briefcase contains the codes that are required for the launching of nuclear weapons. If a situation were to come up where nuclear weapons would have to be launched, the briefcase would be opened and the codes given to the launch sites.
Not sure if this is just stuff that I've seen in the movies or if it's true to life, but don't these people usually have the things handcuffed to them or something?
And if not... SHOULDN'T THEY?

Maybe so, but do you hear any big band music anymore? No... how about oldies? Do most people nowadays listen to oldies? Maybe your parents do, but rarely do younger people listen to them...
It seems that most music has a shelf life of around 30-50 years and then it's pretty much dead. Some people still listen to it, but not very many.
Linux, on the other hand is here to stay, IMO.

I don't think that this is quite right. Rap music, like all music, is just a fad... something that will go away eventually and only be looked back on with fondness by a select group of people.
Linux, however, is much more than that. It opened up a whole new world for the people that had the patience and knowledge to adopt it. Due to Linux, they didn't have to sit back and take whatever the big software companies threw at them... they could dive right in and tweak to their hearts delight.
The only thing that seems to be similar between the two is that they both produced cult-like followers who shun any other way of doing things;)
Well, it won't work as a coaster... won't work very well as a frisbee... what's the use of these, then? Everyone knows that the only thing that AOL is good for is free stuff...
Mebbe if I'm REALLY desperate for a new keyboard....
The chance of accidently bumping into offensive stuff is not as low as most would like to beleive out here.
The real problem isn't people accidentally bumping into it... it's people "accidentally" bumping into the stuff. The kids go there willingly, then when they get caught, they say 'oops! it was an accident!!'
but there's one thing that could definitely be useful -- an internet enabled car.
After just coming in from outside, where I spent a good 15 minutes staring under the hood of my car trying to figure out where that squeak was coming from, this would be great. The car would run a little diagnostic, look up the 'symptoms' in an online database, then give you a report on what was wrong and around how much it should cost to fix it.
I hate to sound like all the other people worrying, but what if someone manages to get into your appliances and, through your stove, gives you a recipe with totally made up proportions of ingredients... or, through your toilet, tells your doctor that you've got some strange disease?
nevertheless, he DID do some interesting work with civilisation. I loved that game, as I'm sure many did.
Civilization is one of my favorite games of all time... I've owned three different versions of the same game... the DOS one, the Windows one, and the PSX one...
And lastly, I do't know about TVs in your neighbourhood, but these days, TV manufacturers are pushing bigger screens cheaper. A 21" TV costs less than a 17" monitor, and for the price of a 20-21" monitor, I can probably get a 30"+.
but would you rather have the 30" tv running at a crappy resolution or a 21" monitor which is 3 times as sharp?
I believe that it's perfectly legal to mod your PSX... Although what a lot of people use that chip for (playing copied games) is illegal, so I think that's brought around a bit of a gray area.
If you're just playing import games on it, everything should be allright.
Actually I most likely *WOULD* do the exact same thing... but that still doesn't make it any more legal.
Just because it's the logical thing to do doesn't mean that they shouldn't get in trouble for it...
The article also says that there were other ways for them to get access in their room through outside ISPs...

And just how legal is this "region-coding" crap, anyhow?
It doesn't need to be legal as long as they have enough money to back them up.

Thanks for the correction. Been a while since I've seen the movie... I'm surprised I remembered how much I did...
