Most headphones are shitty. And if you can afford to buy a pair of REALLY NICE headphones, then buying an iPod won't be a problem.

How do we know that these people would have better social lives if gaming does not exist?

Also, who is to say that having a social life is any better than gaming? I find "parties" dull, just a bunch of people sitting around, getting drunk, and having lame conversations with shitty music in the background - yay! I'd much rather sit at home and play a good game. Oh no, I'm a gaming addict because I chose gaming over a social situation!

I don't really find that odd. It's more of a "If you want to go jogging with it, don't get an iPod, get one of these instead." - "If you need over 15 hours of battery life, don't get an iPod, get one of these instead."

They're not claiming that any one thing is better than the iPod, just that some are more suitable for certain niches.

Given that Apple has so much of a huge market share in schools, one has to wonder if vouchers good for MS products are a way for MS to start claiming some of that Apple market share as an intended/unintended side effect. One really wonders when you see the quote from their counsel...

Either way, it's a good thing. Any extra computers in schools that need them are better than none at all. Even a few Commodore 64s or TRS-80s would be preferrable to having nothing.

Well, at my college, we could get WinXP or 2k for $5. That would take care of the older-Windows-version using students. As for the alternative OSs? Well, when you switched to Linux, you knew you'd be giving up a lot of Windows-only things, this is one of them. It does suck, but a lot of colleges have things that you pay for even though you use them - never been in the computer lab because you have your own? Maybe, but rest assured you're still paying for those computers.

Remember: The old adage "fight fire with fire" does not apply to non-metaphorical fires.

Actually, they use controlled fires to clear areas that the uncontrolled fires are heading towards, using up all the fuel so the uncontrolled fires have nothing to burn there and can't pass. So it does apply!

Scantron sheets for voting? That's NOT a good idea. I'm currently working for a company that deals with standardized tests, and those things are a PAIN to clean up in the database becaues NOBODY can fill the damn things out correctly. I'd say at least a good 5% of them have messed up bubbles in the user/test-ID field ALONE. The answer fields usually fare much worse.

These aren't just 2nd graders, either. High school tests are usually WORSE in this aspect.

The original Matrix movie, while designed to be the first part in a trilogy, was specifically made so it could be a standalone movie if it needed to. The idea was that if the movie did shittily, they wouldn't feel pressured put out the sequels, and if it did well, they'd release the other two and finish the storyline.

Yeah, they're really "squeezing every dollar out of the franchise" by making the third movie in a story designed to be a trilogy.
