Does anyone really have a justification for more than 50fps?
People try to justify it, saying they can notice a difference, but personally I think that's a load of bull.
There is a reason for those hyper-powerful graphics cards, though. Go play a game like Final Fantasy XI at full detail in 1600x1200 with full antialiasing and ansiotropic filtering - simply breathtaking. You need one HELL of a lot of hardware to back something like that up, though.
You do realize that signing online petitions does absolutely nothing, right? I could sign that thing 500 times if I wanted to. They're not very accurate and nobody takes them seriously.
A better thing to do would be to actually write or call the people who will be voting on this issue, and tell them to support it. Although you're still not likely to make too much of a difference, doing this actually has SOMEWHAT of a chance of influencing things.
Searching for this.

I should have known it was a mistake before I hit the "search" button, but I had searched for "Jess in action" on Google, and gotten not quite what I wanted.
Yeah, that would never happen even if they used the EXACT SAME chip. Ignoring the fact that console games are written to run on the EXACT hardware that the console has (including I/O, sound, etc - a lot more than just the main processor), there's the fact that there's going to be protection on the CDs - if they won't let us play a Japanese game on an American PS2, what makes you think they'll have games that can be played on an entirely different console?
I say the most nagging problem is those commercials they put out with the napster cat dancing around. So annoying. I'm sure part of Napster's new success is due to these, though.
Anyways, it's good to see that this is some REAL competition for iTunes. Hopefully we'll see a price war soon.
I do that now in Final Fantasy XI. Whenever I feel a little burnt out on killing miscellaneous monsters, I grab my pole, buy some bait, and go fishing. It's fun to be out in the middle of a field and come across a lake and just decide to fish for a while.
I played it years and years ago, and it was okay... it wasn't able to guess a lot of the time. Recently I went back and played again - DAMN! It's gotten REALLY good. It guessed duck-billed platypus, for god's sake!
Try playing Disgaea for the PS2 - it has voice acting and it's done EXCELLENTLY. Good voice acting really adds to the personalities of characters - Etna has a more devious sound to her, Gordon sounds like an obsessed superhero, Flonne sounds like a naive angel. Sure, this can come through with the text alone, but the characters are a lot more convincing with good voice acting.
From the article: NEVER LET IT GET ABOVE 55C IN MY OPINION ON AIRCOOLING
When I had the stock heatsink/fan on my 1800+, it would IDLE at over 55C, and peak at around 63C under a full load. I never had any problems. Are overclocked CPUs more sensitive to heat, or is this just a "to be safe" recommendation? AMD says they're good up to 85C.
The same thing happens with copy protection schemes on CDs - they just screw over the legit users. The pirates just use Daemon Tools to emulate them, and the only people who it stops from playing are people whose CD-ROMs don't like the copy protection - and from the complaints I hear, that's a fair amount of people.
Yahoo used to me "a must" as well, until they screwed with their success and made everything so complicated and needlessly cluttered. Then Google came around, and everyone switched becaues it was so simple and fast. If Google DOES turn into a portal like Yahoo, expect it to lose a lot of its attractiveness to users.
I remember how people reacted when they found out that Microsoft was going to stop patching Win98. At least they had the decency to wait 5 years. OSX is a really new product, why would they stop putting patches out so soon?
Whatever happened to "News for nerds"? You know, interesting technology, computing industry developments, space flights, etc. Instead, we hear about talking shopping carts. Not to mention that Slashdot completely misses out on REAL news like the Java IDE Poll [datadino.com] that turned the industry on its head and shocked developers worldwide.
Didn't you get that memo? Slashdot isn't "News for nerds, stuff that matters." anymore, it's "News for the paranoid, stuff that only matters to conspiracy theorists." now.
Fully 97% of significant figures in the sciences come from the West. The same figure is arrived at from looking only at significant events. Even America is dwarfed by European accomplishment in the sciences, hosting less than 20% of significant figures before 1950 compared to Europe's nearly 80%
Wow, that's surprising! I would have NEVER expected that Europe, with LOADS more people than America, would have more significant figures! Especially before 1950, when America hadn't really gotten up to full speed yet.
I believe you get a free ticket to the movie when you buy the game.
I've been bombarded by spam from all directions for the last 15 years.. it's on my truck ...
it's on your truck?

Windows only? Most likely just for now. iTunes started out as a Mac-only program. Give it time.

I couldn't resist! Just like even the most seasoned Slashdot veterans can't resist a "First Post" sometimes.
I, for one, welcome our new microscopic overlords.

Slashdot headline: "Is lemmings dead?"
Zelda has such a long history that you've made yourself a picture of Link in your mind, and a voice would disturb that picture.
Well, considering that Link doesn't even talk at all, I don't think having voice acting in the game would really ruin that impression much.

I think it's because those people have played the game since it came out due to the fact that it's the only game that reliably runs on Linux (ducks).
They stopped supporting it on June 30 of this year.
Nah, everything is insecure, it's just that the insecurities in Windows are the only ones exploited constantly.

Why am I not surprised that a senior government beauracrat wants to take all of my personal information and put it in one easy to subpoena location?
You're paranoid?
