Does anyone really have a justification for more than 50fps?

People try to justify it, saying they can notice a difference, but personally I think that's a load of bull.

There is a reason for those hyper-powerful graphics cards, though. Go play a game like Final Fantasy XI at full detail in 1600x1200 with full antialiasing and ansiotropic filtering - simply breathtaking. You need one HELL of a lot of hardware to back something like that up, though.

You do realize that signing online petitions does absolutely nothing, right? I could sign that thing 500 times if I wanted to. They're not very accurate and nobody takes them seriously.

A better thing to do would be to actually write or call the people who will be voting on this issue, and tell them to support it. Although you're still not likely to make too much of a difference, doing this actually has SOMEWHAT of a chance of influencing things.

Yeah, that would never happen even if they used the EXACT SAME chip. Ignoring the fact that console games are written to run on the EXACT hardware that the console has (including I/O, sound, etc - a lot more than just the main processor), there's the fact that there's going to be protection on the CDs - if they won't let us play a Japanese game on an American PS2, what makes you think they'll have games that can be played on an entirely different console?

I say the most nagging problem is those commercials they put out with the napster cat dancing around. So annoying. I'm sure part of Napster's new success is due to these, though.

Anyways, it's good to see that this is some REAL competition for iTunes. Hopefully we'll see a price war soon.

Zelda has such a long history that you've made yourself a picture of Link in your mind, and a voice would disturb that picture.

Well, considering that Link doesn't even talk at all, I don't think having voice acting in the game would really ruin that impression much.

  15. Re:VO on Xbox - Past, Present, And Future · · Score: 1

Try playing Disgaea for the PS2 - it has voice acting and it's done EXCELLENTLY. Good voice acting really adds to the personalities of characters - Etna has a more devious sound to her, Gordon sounds like an obsessed superhero, Flonne sounds like a naive angel. Sure, this can come through with the text alone, but the characters are a lot more convincing with good voice acting.

  16. Temperature on AMD Optimal BIOS settings + Overclocking Guide · · Score: 4, Informative

When I had the stock heatsink/fan on my 1800+, it would IDLE at over 55C, and peak at around 63C under a full load. I never had any problems. Are overclocked CPUs more sensitive to heat, or is this just a "to be safe" recommendation? AMD says they're good up to 85C.

The same thing happens with copy protection schemes on CDs - they just screw over the legit users. The pirates just use Daemon Tools to emulate them, and the only people who it stops from playing are people whose CD-ROMs don't like the copy protection - and from the complaints I hear, that's a fair amount of people.
