That's that sad conundrum. Unfortunately, I don't have any simple answers either. I suppose the most obvious start is to completely remove the ability of corporations to benefit politicians in any way. No corporate campaign donations, no make believe consulting positions, no all expenses paid trips, etc.
Politicians will follow the money. Once we've made it impossible for them to get the majority of their money by pandering to companies they'll have no choice but to come to us.
We need to bring back the idea of public service. Politicians make plenty of money off of the taxpayers already. They don't need to be allowed to have fake jobs at huge companies so they can get kickbacks.
This is just another example of how the citizens have completely lost control of their government. Elected officials no longer see themselves as being responsible to the electorate but to the corporations that fund their campaigns and posh trips. This crap needs to end. Is there anyone outside of CEOs that really agrees with the sort of copyright policy we currently have? The laws need to reflect the people's wishes rather than the politician's corporate sponsors.
Seriously people. Japan is just a little smaller than California. Running high speed rail throughout their entire country takes the same resources as it takes for us just to run it through one friggin' state.
No, they basically just avoided committing seppuku and it's only a matter of time before they try again. Only next time around they'll go to outrageous lengths to sucker people into it so that they don't realize they're getting totally screwed. I predict some type of awful cell phone style plan - They start offering free internet and then they charge you some an insane amount of money for any bandwidth over 100 MB/mth.
Yeah, you're right, making a quick stop to swap the battery packs would be out of the question... There are already car makers talking about doing this. There's no reason you couldn't do it in a controlled environment like downtown NYC.
The FF experience sucks in comparison to IE. The OWA experience is almost exactly like the application itself when you're using IE. In FF it's more like a bad version of Gmail. Sadly I'm forced to use IE for my banking and for OWA. That's it. I'm actually excited to see FF support coming down the road.
Jonathan Coulton is creative commons and a big geek to boot. Use his music! Granted there are already quite a few music videos based on his music but that doesn't mean you can't use it as background music for your latest viral video attempt.
Haha, yeah, I thought about it. But I don't have any content on there at the moment. Shameless plugs begin once I've got something on there worth plugging! I'm actually interested in your shameless plug though... I'll have to check it out.
Geez, there's about one pixel different between the two and from where I sit I couldn't tell the difference until you pointed out that that was what you were talking about.
Honestly, as if accidentally finding yourself at some phising site / ad site when you type "amzon" wasn't annoying enough now, as you suggested, we can look forward to the same thing with the TLD too. Great.:-/ Money grabbing douches. If everyone ignored it maybe they would take it away... Sadly you know that a bunch of MBAtards are going to think this is the greatest idea ever and actually waste money on this crap.
I made a similar decision when I recently purchased a domain name. The one I really wanted was being squatted, but I refuse to support that obnoxious garbage. I just compromised and made something close enough. Everyone uses search and or links from blogs / social networking / link sites (Digg, Reddit, etc). In my case anyone wanting to learn more about what I'm doing is either going to read about it from my material and type in the address or they'll find out about it by googling / from a friend. Slick "cereal.com" names aren't really that important anymore.
I have to disagree with the validity of the statement that this carries over into the wild. Yeah, sure, if you have a dolphin tied to the side of your boat and you're sitting their blasting it with 203 decibels it'll go deaf. But do we know how quickly it drops off in strength or whether the dolphins would swim away before any lasting damage was done? Have they heard it in the past and learned to avoid naval vessels as a result? Couldn't they theoretically swim along the surface and avoid the sound altogether?

Furries everywhere are universally disappointed.

Can we hire Japan's or France's government to do it for us? The TGV is awesome.

Are you always buying open box stuff or what? I've never had trouble with stuff I've bought at Fry's and I've done plenty of shopping there...
The first reply on the first comment was someone that didn't realize that "meld" is a word. So apparently it was necessary. Yes, this is sad.
How did melting a balloon and a parachute together make sense? :P
+1 Internets for humility though!

As if taxing cigarettes and alcohol prevented anyone from using them anyway.
Your mom isn't that hot.
Obviously the answer is the use of fences, cameras, GPS systems installed in everyone, and the outlawing of the "terrorist fist bump." Problem solved.
