Designing a "rail system" or any tansport reminiscent of a conveyor with high velocity and turns (like the Log-ride in knott's berry farm, california), requires an in-depth knowledge of engineering. Beyond a phd is generally required. Typically these type of people are picked up by goverment agencies like NASA or what-have-you. Dealing with the second derivative of accleration is called "jerk" by the lead engineer of disney, Mark Sumner. This is useless information to the everyday joe but critical for these kind of designs. Mark Sumner was told he was overqualified for junkyard wars =p Any mistake in these "rides" can cost lives on or off the track, so I think the man qualifies for the Darwin Award.
This remake was far superior to any other version I've seen. The special effects were great. Morlocks hunting was a less ridiculous than a nuclear warning siren luring them in. Agreedly, it's not quite clear why his final action "changed the future" since every other part of the movie seemed rather coherent. My sister and brother and friends all enjoyed it. At least they could sit through this version, while they would never be able to appreciate any previous version, much less stay awake through them.
A TOS or any contract (including non-disclosure and employment contracts among others) cannot act as a barrier of trade. In other words, you cannot be bound by a contract that says "I agree that I wont buy a car". How this works out for electronic "possession" is what the courts have to decide.
My experience has shown that there is NO WAY you can get students to install linux if they dont want to. The immediate problem of the complete breakdown of the design paradigm, since statistically no one will give up their home-gaming machine or the OS they know or the files they have saved just to satisfy a incorporeal "nerd". No client connectivity or go with windows? This forces the administration to go with windows.
Dont blame palestinians for protecting their nation's image. As the leadership rightly predicted, the american public has been polarized by successful stereotyping.
Misdirected Public Outcry is not a GOOD THING(tm).
The news networks have been putting people on the screen that advocate all types of military action. So much has this permeated the public's mind, that congressmen are advocating war against afghanistan. Laughably, you cant find an example of an ANCHORPERSON/MAN/whatever saying we should outright attack someone, and that somehow makes the US mainstream media even moderately objective. Haha.
Toppling civilian buildings, and killing family members and neighbors does not automagically allow people to see how and why the situation is to be dealt with. You imply that just because it's on TV, we can find out who's really responsible from watching NBC'S 24/7 coverage?
Riiiiigh.
Not to be all up and arab (hehe), but does anyone have anything but circumstantantial evidence against Bin Laden? Get a clue yourself.
Take a good hard look at how justice ideals weigh against american paranoia and fear.
Who is MORE credible is irrelevant. The footage used to show "celbrating palestinians" is stock and there is fact. There are also Americans who celebrated when the attacks went down (future Jerry Springer shows will be sure to highlight it). Who celbrated is also irrelevant. The point is spin. American media puts spin on events based on american political stances and use political propoganda. We like to THINK the US is different and a more "honest" environment. This is not the case.
It depends on how you see the philosophical purpose of "Open Software" and "free liscences"...I'm sure the word liscences irks you as well.
Personally, I agree with you because I agree on the freedom to do whatever you want with any code you can get your hands on. In america, where it's a capitalist society, this is disruptive and therefore a BAD THING(tm) to allow people to do whatever they want with anything they can find because god-forbid they might make money off someone's work.
Software and forks are the same to me. Eventually no one will care if you sell software that you didnt write, since the fork was invented so long ago. There is no reason to make the distinction now just because you live in the same time as it was invented.
People are stupid, but should have the freedom to buy/sell anything they can get their hands on. It's the consumer's responsibility to figure out which physical vendor is worth buying from, in such a theoretical scenario...wait, that's how it already is.
The OS source "movement", if you can even call it that, supports Trademarks and IP (to a point), which ultimately undermines the ideology I follow.

One of the oldest forms of cheating known to man, is cheating at gambling. In the end, it takes a computer to suspect, but a human to confirm. Even in gambling, some cheaters get away with it. It's not an exact science, although we would like it to be. Expect complex automated cheating prevention to make mistakes, so account for it.
Great, now we have to debug the cheat-prevention in addition to the game.

If a car manfact. decided that they should put a safety valve on a fuel injector because ppl were pushing the car above the safety limits the wheels (or any other arbitrary mechanical part) were tested for, you cant claim they are infringing on your rights. They are covering their ass. Whether you think that it is a direct attack on a feature you like or not, is irrelevant. You know it's not your decision, and therefore, your outrage is simply misdirected.

Are people going to complain BMW is infringing on their rights when they come out with a combined muffler-catalytic_convertor, that you have to replace as a large (read:expensive) single part...and this part will be standard issue for all future BMW's and you wont be able to buy the old part from BMW anymore? "But I used to be able to replace the muffler and convertor separately...and my dad says you used to be able to pull the platinum plate from the convertor so you didnt have to replace the whole convertor either." BR
It's rediculous to say that something you pay for is forever yours if it doesnt exist in a vacuum. You use their service, you know they can change your software, you live with that. Or you could always try to install an old catalytic convertor and muffler separately in the sanctuary of your own garage. Just dont let the smog guys test it.

I have lots of pet projects and ideas for projects that would be lucrative. After 5 years, I am now at a point where I can honestly gauge if I will be able to complete a project or if I will need help.
For a modestly sized program (200 pages of code or so, not counting additional files for images and such) completely written in one language, I would recommend to just have a general idea of what you want to do and how you are going to implement it. Baby steps. Do things one at a time, and you will be able to get really far, if not to completion.
Any program larger than that and working in more than one language (or using more than 1 API) will almost certainly require a team (be it 1,2,3+ people). Corporate entities EXPECT everyone to work in teams. In a small to moderately large program, this is unnecessary. But all of a sudden you get a pretty good sized *serious* project and you have to deal with everyone keeping the same conventions (read: code review, ugh), sync'd schedules, and delegation of responsibility. You usually have to pay programmers to take on these alien practices.
If you are going to go balls-out on a game, market market market. Knock on 50 doors, get 5 meetings, and maybe one ping returns something promising. Some people say having a good demo is important. Having a good presentation, a good boardroom slideshow, and a good dog-and-pony show is the oldest way to get funding. Before I forget, a person calling companies to try to set up appointments is 10$ per person, per hour (max) and a good script for them to read from. That's all you need to know about selling the sizzle.

I've been working for IC Fabs off and on for the last 4 years. It doesnt take a big company to tell me how to design a "general purpose chip" (as they put it) that will provide me with CONTROLLED resistance and impedence. This is also in "the books".
