That's the thing with appeals, you don't get a chance to provide new arguments that you forgot to bring up during the original trial. In this case they didn't even have good enough arguments to make it to the first trial.
It is a public forum because it's the president who has decided that Twitter is his official means of communicating with the public. The decision would seem to apply to any politician using Twitter in a similar way, Republican, Democrat, or Other.
But without unions, the workers can't afford to buy the goods. Before unions, there were clear and obvious abuses of workers. They have done a lot of good for workers overall. Don't confuse some heavily politically motivated unions as being representative of all possible labor unions.
The point of class action is to give more power to the people versus giant corporations. Individual suits will go nowhere, the big corporation will usually win. And when the damages are low per person (overcharged for a certain product), it's not worth the huge expense to have a lawsuit just to get back $50. But a class action suit means that the expenses are now relatively small and the people have power to tell corporations to stop their bad behavior. In other words, class action suits are like unions, getting the weak parties to band together and allow for a balance of power.
As for the article, arbitration agreements are orthogonal to class action suits. Arbitration is all about making sure you will never be able to have a lawsuit in the first place, individual or class action. If you read the agreements, there's usually something in there that guarantees you will lose unless you have more money than your employer. Also any arbitrator who rules against the corporations is going to be out of work.
Overall it could help the economy. More people able to get to more jobs, more people able to go shopping to more places, etc. Sure, if people are in walking distance it doesn't help much, but if you have to go over 5 miles and you don't have your own transportation it's a major hindrance. I know people who have had to give up jobs for these reasons.
Generally cities have just a single transit system, you take their bus, or you drive. The service is mostly subsidized everywhere as well. Funds do show up though with free bus service, it can reduce wear and tear from autos; the political fights about commuting funds tend to split between improving mass transit or adding new roads.
Some people hate any government assistance of any type. Providing bus service is not much different than paying to maintain roads, and improves the economy. Still, those people sometimes want all roads to be either toll roads or dirt roads for horses...
I don't get it though. We've had the SimhH simulator for about 25 years now, just putting it on a Raspberry Pi is trivial, so the only "story" here is the front panel. Ie, copy source code onto the RPi, run make, and you're done, because the Raspberry Pi is a relatively high powered computer. You can find PDP 11 like computers built by hand - that is, the logic built by hand from TTL gates or relays, those are certainly much more interesting stories. Follow the homebrew cpu ring.
Granted, this is fun to play with, I've had fun bootstrapping onto SimH from 1977 tape images. But is this really a slashdot story?
What do you mean, Trump used Hollywood to its max to get himself hyped and turned into a nationally known figure. Republicans are just as much in bed with parts of Hollywood as democrats are.
Mickey Mouse is a trademark. The film in which Mickey Mouse first appeared should normally be considered out of the copyright period if sanity prevailed. However that would not necessarily mean that every short in which Mickey Mouse appeared would have been out of copyright. So the appearance of Mickey Mouse in a modern game is somewhat irrelevant to the purposes of discussing copyright terms.
Disney does NOT need to protect Steamboat Willy copyright in order to protect copyright on all Mickey Mouse works.
Except that this vendetta won't hurt Bezos, instead it will hurt the USPS. Which will make some anti-government types happy, who don't really care one way or the other about Bezos but who will be happy to see a government department take a blow.
There's a large number of politicians who believe that any government is a waste. They dislike the fact that the USPS even exists, when there are public companies that do the same job. They ignore the fact that the USPS is self sufficient, and remains competitive without tax dollar subsidies. Trump listens to these people, he assigns these people to lead deparatments, so he probably had a thing against USPS even before he got into a fit over Bezos.
Pension plans are normallly invested, not pre-funded. It is fine to go and criticize the investments and bad money management if some details emerge, but pre-funding pensions is not typically demanded of many other goverment agencies. Because the post office manages to be efficient and self sufficient, it angers all the government-is-evil politicians.
Arrests do mean something though, because they influence the public's opinion. Lots of arrests means a better chance of the sheriff being re-elected, whether or not there is a conviction in court. They post these records and photos precisely so that the general public thinks that law enforcement is being effective.
These *could* still be connected devices. There is no viable reason for them to report back to the mothership, and yet that's how these things are designed.
I'm working on IoT that needs a 20 year battery life, but it's not consumer junk sold to people who need something to tweet about. There's really zero need for 99% of consumer IoT, it only exists so that you can show off to your friends.
That's fine. However it does not mean we need to bow down and kiss the winner's ass. One of the best parts of America is that we are allowed to criticize our government and its leaders. In fact, I think its everyone's civic duty to critizice their leaders! Asking citizens to "shut up because it could have been worse" is akin to discouraging democracy.
Every country fudges the formulas in order to make their GDP look better than it is.. If a country's opposition parties are strong enough then the ruling parties will fudge this less while being more open and honest. When the opposition is weak, then the rules are abused or ignored.
You can love the US while still criticizing it. The same as with a family member, if you think your parents have flaws it does not mean you don't love them. It is very jingoist to not allow dissent or criticism of your own country.
Why? Opposition to a disliked candidate makes one unsuitable for Texas? So all right thinking Texans vote the way they are told to vote and don't waste energy trying to think about it? There are plenty of armadillos to vote for instead of Ted Cruz.
No server. I just have one computer. She's got slow internet. She's not nearby so I only visit every few months. I did set her up for IMAP last weekend, she had been on POP3. Thunderbird didn't like just changing the account to IMAP (probably trivial if I had instructions and which json file to tweak). So I created a new account to the same server. After deleting original account this did clean up the several minute hang thunderbird was having on startup.
Now that I remember that the actual folders are mbox format, I probably could have done a lot of this stuff more quickly. I was both trying to fix the problem with Thunderbird hanging, along with restoring files from backup, and trying to figure out what her passwords were.

But he knew what the job was going in
I wouldn't be so sure about that part.

So what? Users should see their own spelling mistakes, they don't need an app to do this for them.

It's really hard to lose money in the gambling business. You'd have to be very special to lose money in that business.

We did buy one. But unfortunately we didn't opt in for the extended warranty package.
