Same reason the U-2 is called a "utility" aircraft. It was to avoid the attention of foreign intelligence while it was being developed. Notice that numerically it's in the old Century-series, though any aircraft designed starting about 1962 would have had the new unified numbering[1] that was reset to start at 1 again for all types.

[1] Prior to '62, the Navy and Marines had a different designation scheme of the form [role][sequence][maker]-[revision], e.g. SBD-3 Dauntless was [scout-bomber][first from Douglas][Douglas]-[3rd revision] and the F6F-5 Hellcat [fighter][sixth from Grumman][Grumman]-[fifth revision]. The F-4 Phantom was originally called F4H (H being the code for McDonnell).

$ORK has a semi-custom intranet app that requires not only IE but ActiveX and (wait for it) the MS Java runtime. No, I don't know what adulterated crack they were smoking; it was before my time.

I've tried to switch users from IE to FF. It's been more successful with the ex-Netscape users, 'cause I can sell it and T-bird as a direct upgrade. Some people need Outhouse's calendaring features, and some people just can't cope with certain webshites not being compatible with FF, and other people just think that Microsoft writes the best software (whether it's from ignorance or just being used to MS products, I don't know). Personally I wish we'd have a Policy that forbids using Intestinal Expander (for security reasons, of course) that I can point to once I've disabled their access with Group Policy, but $DEPT has had a reputation for being jack-booted thugs that management is trying to escape.

There are less-efficient sedans and coupes; for example, the 2005 Ford Focus I looked at before I bought my car ran IIRC 28 MPG, and that's far better than the 4-cylinder Mustang I used to have, which might get 25 MPG on the highway on a good day.

FWIW, my current car is consistently better than EPA estimates, but that's because 1) I have trained my right foot, and 2) my commute is on a highway with a speed limit of 55 MPH. I have a 2005 Civic Hybrid with the CVT and can get an average of 51 MPG on my daily commute when it's cool enough to not need air conditioning, mid-high 40s otherwise. Now, going up to 70 MPH on a day warm enough for A/C and with pax drops it right down to 37 and stop-go city driving is in the low 40s.

One of my eyes has been terribly nearsighted (now 20/300) and astigmatized since I was about ten, I think. My dominant eye (in all things but reading[1]) started getting nearsighted about seven years ago and I was finally forced to wear glasses (I'm now 27). I'd had glasses and contacts before, but hated them and could survive on my good eye, TYVM; the only downside was gym class. Even now I can use the computer and walk around without glasses, probably what most can do with 20/60-ish vision.

My vision heredity is a bid weird -- one of my relatives has a nearsighted and a farsighted eye and another has glaucoma.

[1] Now that I'm wearing glasses, I'll automatically use it for things short- and medium-range despite the de-magnifying effect of a strong concave lens. I always use my better eye for driving, though.

FWIW my eyes do not cooperate[1], so I do not see depth they way most people do. I can see movement sure enough, but my brain has to do wetware emulation to figure out how far away something is, and close up it sucks. As a result I can't catch a ball but I can estimate how far away a moving car is, but it helps if I know about what size the object is and I must use visual context.

To emulate how I do it, just close one of your eyes and do things that way. I can see out of the other eye, of course, but the brain treats it as peripheral vision unless I'm using it to focus on an object -- I can swap which eye I use to focus at will.

[1] I was born with one of my eye muscles screwed up, so I was the opposite of cross-eyed.
