    On the desktop I've switched from Ubuntu to Mint, but on the server I've changed from Debian to Ubuntu LTS. For my use case having more up-to-date software is more important than utter stability and the outside chance of major-vendor support for programs that I'm not going to run anyway.

    In fact, my roll-my-own-distro choice is now Ubuntu Server, which is far less likely to spontaneously break than the current favorite riceboy distro, Arch.

    I expect the real reason the GOP pushed to let Obama choose is so that they could turn around and blame him for any unpopular cuts. They tried to further abdicate responsibility, because it's Congress's job to choose funding levels.

    The engines are obsolete now - one steam turbine (modern, at least on warships) and two triple-expansion reciprocating steam engines (obsolete everywhere).

    The hull was bad because of substandard materials.

    Or, you know, update to a newer distro. Except in rare cases (RHEL), it's /free/, and if your computer can't run a modern distro then take $35 and either buy a Pi or something better that's used.

    I also don't want political correctness, feminism or any of the other progressive mindsets in any of my businesses. Those people can hit the road -- I don't even want them as customers.

    Maybe with luck society will separate into two groups: the politically correct nauseated degreed folks and the self-driven and determined entrepreneurial type.

    You're operating under the misapprehension that the Free Market (peace be upon it) is the only thing that sets interest rates in the US. It's not; the Federal Reserve board sets at least one key rate.

    Wrong. The interest rates are low to stimulate the economy. If the Fed raised rates back to historic levels costs of borrowing for private organizations would go up and the economy would slow.
