I think you are missing the point. The TV is in the process of morphing into a fully internet capable device.
I base my opinion on the revenue figures not Murdock's stockholder speeches and CES "optimism over experience" PR. The only relatively healthy sector is subscription.
It would be interesting to see if sales of smart tvs are on the upswing, but like I said everybody seems to be buying them even those who just use them as dumb mpeg capable displays or OTA in cities with lots of stations where it makes sense. Murdock is a doofis to say the least IP subsciption based TV IS not the end all and be all of the potential to say the least people are pissed enough at the prices for cable subscription services that are plastered with adverts. The good channels that are not supported by adverts make the media too expensive for many in the first place.
So more and more young people on low incomes are turning to other forms of entertainment. For instance if I can take my camera, smart phone, tablet or whatever and then send vids, pictures, documents you name it, directly to someone's screen this feature of Smart TVs alone is attractive to say the least. They are also becoming fully web capable and it is only a matter of time before independent content like youtube and many user created shared content sites is watched on them directly at a higher rate than it currently is. Remember when stupid youtube vids were the flavour of the day on the PC? Well it is just a question of time before people start using the internet directly on their tv for things like research, mail, twitter, faceplant and all forms of digital social media. Essentially "digital social media is the message" to paraphrase a famous Canadian educator.
Frankly network tv has become boring as hell at times even with the thousand channel universe the mogels like Murdock feast on. More and more people are spending more time doing something other than just watching shows. Network tv is not going away it is starting to have real competition for the first time in peoples living rooms. A place where companies like Apple and Microsoft have completely missed the mark on what is really possible. The Murdocks of this world are in for a rude awaking as well. Sure there is a market for subscription just look at what is happening with Nutflax...Notflicks or what ever but the real market can be much much more than just subscription services through device specific web apps.
Either way interesting times ahead. One thing that would be a colossal tech fail would be touch screen tvs though, finger butter and goober slob on your high def display is not going to catch on and I don't see people with 10 to 20 foot sticks siting on their couches poking away at a touch screen device in the future...
[FUNNY_BONES]
Though knowing Microsoft they are likely to try to push the idea on people if they decide to create their own SUPER SMART WINDOW8 TV. Just try to imagine a 50 inch SURFACE DEVICE, I don't think they are really that stupid so we won't see Surface brand Super Smart TVs any time ZUNE. LOL Unless they get Samsung to make one for them.
Hurrah the first person to see the forest for the trees.
Last time I looked TV wasn't doing much better than the trees. I hear radio and newspapers are a force to be reckoned with though.
I think you are missing the point. The TV is in the process of morphing into a fully internet capable device. And if the lines of "SMART TV" sitting in all the stores and selling as replacements for highdef and regular mpeg digital only tvs are not an indication of the fact that people are actually starting to use them for both purposes then I guess Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, LG are all out to lunch when they push internet capable big screen devices for the living room.
Sure some jerk modded me down as flame bait but that is the nature of mods that have a political agenda and do not see past their nose when it comes to technology.
AND THIS IS NOT A FLAME it is a simple logical argument based upon observation. Which IM not so Humble Opinion is what a real discussion is all about. The flames here seem to come from the fan boys that go out of their way to defend something which is vulnerable to new technologies and that something is companies that try to push products like XBOXs and Apple tv boxes as being a reasonable media device.
The whole point is low power high computation processor tech is making it so the TV can morph into something which has greater capabilities than just a dumb digital receiver. And Samsung especially sees the potential in uniting their tablets, cameras, phones with their TVs to really increase the potential user friendliness of Smart TVs. In fact they are leaving most other companies in the dust in regards to integration of devices.
LG and Sony are starting to catch on and no doubt they will catch up. But as long as Apple and Microsoft can't see the forest for the trees and relies upon add on boxes for digital display they will be left in the dust.
Watch out as Samsung starts to release some killer games for their latest super power smart tvs because it will shock the shit out of the gaming industry. The conclusion here is gaming industry is vulnerable including "consoles" like the Xbox and PlayStation because they are a non portable add on that will become redundant.
If someone has a logical argument with good counter points then type away but twitter like jabs are for kids, arguing is an essential part of discourse and I respect those who have contrary opinions provided they are not just pokes and jabs. BTW I was not the anon coward who I first responded to but I do agree with what he postulated and simply elaborated on the topic. YOU HAVE THE MIC AND THE FLOOR.
Hurrah the first person to see the forest for the trees. Even the fledgling company Hisense sees the potential and is currently building essentially a full chrome type os type tv. Samsung is seeing that having a real qwerty keyboard remote option for their latest super "smart" tvs with full faceplant and Chrome browsing capabilities is a possible selling point. It is only a matter of time before the can have attachable file storage with flash drives and essentially be fully capable of everything high end tablets and consoles and a PC can do and be instead a huge non touch screen device or even run off tablets which are used as a full remote. The possibilities are endless.
And this is what has microsnort and frapple shitting bricks in the very near future their tablet market will be redundant in the living room and both of them have not dominated the digital communication market in peoples living rooms and there is real room for others to innovate them out of the market. Perhaps this is the real reason why Apple is suing the shit out of Samsung and Microshaft keeps knocking at their door for more fat patent extortion money every time they bring out a new big screen product that can do what a pc or console can do.
Perhaps they became paranoid because "the man" was really out to get them.
Lets get our terms defined here. A paranoid psychotic episode is only one possible aspect of a psychosis. Perhaps the individual might experience fits of uncontrolled laughter and even the munchies, these episodes can been seen in many people who show signs of psychosis. Or individuals who smoke pot for that matter. Reality distortion during a psychotic episode is a difficult thing to quantify and can vary in degree to such an extent that qualifying every episode that requires intervention to be a psychotic one is a fools gambit.
However would you like to have someone who smokes high potency pot on a regular basis for an airline pilot? From my experience most who are heavy pot users are better suited for janitorial work or a space academy. Or a even a regular spot on reality tv shows. I personally even temporarily considered surrendering our planet to these guys while waiting for your order at KFC like I once did when considering whether or not to ask the clerk if they were having trouble plucking the chickens because the order was taking too long and I HAD THE MUNCHIES! Either way to conclude that psychosis is always manifested in paranoid delusions on the contrary, delusions are an integral part of our psychological make up as a species and can even be productive if seen in a more gentle context.
So the conclusion we must draw here is that Aussies are not hooman beins'? Or just maybe all their mothers was a dingo? I have met a few and called their mothers one, but that led to one hell of a bar fight. They tell me that the Cannabis in the outback is worth a walkabout, just maybe that's what you guys are smokin'. By and large they seem all too hooman to me. Though I tend to think the reporter was a certified son of a dingo and 'rooshit latecomer coward to boot one huge disgrace to the good people of Botany Bay!
It seems just about everyone here agrees this is a crappy company.
How come the gov decision makers don't know this? why was accenture chosen?
What company would you all suggest as the right choice? and why can't the community (i.e. "we the people") alert them to this apparent bad decision?
(I know nothing about this company or any good contractor to suggest myself)
Crappy companies are becoming the norm in IT, some here have compared wages to janitorial firms and this is only fitting. Most consulting firm just hire who ever is available and stupid enough to be lowest bidder. This goes for janitorial work as well the small local firms all have to bow down and take it in the patoot from the jerks in offices that sit at computers and hire small firms for the major corps to do the work locally. The result is a man in the middle shark fest the same as what is happening with IT. As long as there are firms like CGI Federal, Accenture etc that do not actually do real work and just scoop up contracts with sales people who use powerpoint to wow the suckers, IT work will continue to be devalued. In the janitorial industry it has gotten positively stupid major corps all contract out to firms that actually do nothing other than outsource as cheaply as possible. It has gotten so bad that even the highest skilled work or surface chemical stripping and reconditioning is being done by individuals making less than minimum wage on a sub contract basis.
These consulting outsourcing firms in Canada are allowed to bring in off shore workers and pay them minimum wage because no one living here can afford to do the work any longer. It is a slippery slope of a few sharp individuals making gobs of cash off contract work and actually doing no real work other than using powerpoint and a projector!
Anyone here have any real scoop on this that's not been rewritten by the Anglican Church? It's like all the "pagan" inventions are being turned into Christian patents.
Not in a Church per se but perhaps there is proof elsewhere in a place many consider to be a similar place of pilgrimage and worship.
From what I read a primitive induction touch based device was found last week in Steve Jobs garage. It lights up as a display and only worked with one finger however, it was right beside his first attempt at a device that moved the curser and it looked strangely modern and only worked with one finger as well. This without a doubt is prior art in the technology of touch screens.
Maybe linux shouldn't use so many of other people's patents?
There fixed that for you. And this is exactly why Google is leveraging their dominance in internet search to promote other options. Right now I can use Youtube without having to resort to FLASH. And more and more are heading towards an unencumbered standard for the web. THE PROBLEM IS the people at APPLE AND SONY are scared shitless about this turn of events. When the public finally figures out what is really going on then the same situation that occurred with Napster will happen to them. And this is the crux of the issue, what do you do about it make it illegal to re-encode content or distribute software that will? That does not work. NO the answer is and always has been people will pay for good content and trying to stop them from watching things or listening more than once is not going to cut it. SO YES IF OSS codecs become the standard then those who create the content will make money not the assholes that try to profit only from others peoples efforts. The whole copyright extension bullshit going on in the US and the attitude that INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY can make you rich even if you do not actually create anything is going to come back to bite the US in the ass. And when it does it will make the 2000 tech bubble and the financial meltdown of 2008 look like a blip on the ticker.
I am not saying that those who create things should not be rewarded however the question here is the gross overvaluation of a technology not whether the piper should be paid!
The Samsung IC business relationship between these two is an order of magnitude more important than any lost sales from competition. Whether or not they settle on silly frilly patent disputes will not change that fact one iota.
Samsung if anything is not stupid. They have leveraged OSS on just about every device they make, especially smart tvs. Funny but their lines like many others do include OSS licence links right through the menu options. My question is if they settle in a circle jerk with Apple will they then be given a free pass as the Rockstar Consortium starts to go after all the sheep that microsoft already have sheared or will the patent wars heat up instead? If Apple and the cooked up US justice system beats them up badly enough will they bend over and keep taking it up the patoot? Sony uses OSS almost as much as Samsung, and LG is up there too. But the interesting question is what is going on behind the scene. The Apple VS Samsung war might just turn out to be a smoke screen if I am right about what the Rockstar Consortium is all about. I have a sinking feeling that cell phones are only the tip of the iceburg when it comes to the patent wars. Essentially OSS has taken over the embedded market especially on devices like Smart TVs. It would make perfect sense if Microsoft, Apple and Sony try a power play against all the competition in this market. MS failed in the entertainment market with ZUNE, NBC, and Apple and Sony is scared shitless of loosing their lead in the music sales market so they make strange bedfellows. But it would not surprise me at all if this Rockstar bullshit comes out of the woodwork and screws over everybody so that Apple, Sony and Microsoft can profit from every device that makes noises and pictures.
Either way things turn out for Samsung they win, but perhaps the digital entertainment industry except for those willing to pay an extra tax to this consortium will be pushed out of the industry in the long run because of software patents. Companies like Toshiba, Panasonic. LG etc are very vulnerable and we might see a global concentration of the market into the hands of four companies in the very near future. I would not be shocked if the sudden rise of Android devices is not followed by a radical demise if these assholes succeed in their quest to completely dominate the digital communication and entertainment industry.
Apple will settle and Samsung will be under NDA as to the details. THEN ALL HELL WILL break loose and it will be directed straight at all the companies that use OSS software for free the Linux kernel modules for exfat, ffmpeg extensions for aac+ and avchd, googles versions of the same codecs and all the other stuff that makes Android phones, smart tvs and the many millions of devices that use the linux kernel and OSS work. This time around the concerted attack will be by the ROCKSTAR CONSORTIUM which is the patent troll organization which was just put together to do the real dirty work. You can smell it coming from a mile away, essentially Ballmer's revenge is about to be unleashed as Gates sits back and pulls the strings behind the scene. Why else would Sony, Apple and Microsoft had created a joint venture patent troll corporation?
Put on the pop corn folks the shit is about to really hit the fan as Ballmer promised years ago.
You need to read the new testament, Pinocchio, the old testament and The Monk. Then you know enough about human nature. Sun Tzu, Machiavelli and Gaetano Mosca might be helpful too. The rest is optional.
Yes the all the rest is optional except the Kama Sutra especially if Pinocchio is on the list.
No you don't. Social media sites like Google+ and Facebook vacuum up information about you from everywhere, even things you never intended to be made public like links you've clicked on.
Which to the NSA is useless information overload, with RSA keys being easily hacked it leads down a completely different path than the average Joe on the net, I would think that the NSA is much more interested in targets of value. The fact is most people who use Google+ or Faceplant have nothing of any real value to be had especially for security agencies. If you are a consumer and all of a sudden your posting habits make advertising money for Brin and Zukerberg who gives a rats ass. Here we are with a bunch of so called information gurus telling us that are consuming habits are a valuable commodity. Personally I listen to Igor Stravinsky and if in watching and listening to a youtube vid suddenly Google comes back and advertises a concert somewhere of a performance of Le Sacre Du Printemps then good for them.
AND BY THE WAY nice shift off the topic and away from the bastards at the NSA subverting RSA keys and a not so cunning redirect to attack instead Google services as being somehow associated with the information sink hole in Washington that is the NSA.... If however I frequent neo nazi sites and post hate speech on the net then as far as I am concerned being on the radar of the NSA is not that bad a thing...UNLESS OF COURSE I AM A MORON WHITEY TIGHTY BORN AGAIN NAZI MYSELF OR A CLOSET TERRORIST.
However being much more concerned about my bodily fluids and essences, instead I am against the fluoridation of our precious water and bodily fluids. The encryption key is found in PURITY OF ESSENCE from which all things will be revealed. GOOGLE IS EVIL DON'T FORGET IT only through the use of Microsoft Windows and Bing can true encrypted PURITY OF ESSENCE be acheived. RSA keys the NSA have absolutely nothing to do with this thread. WOOOF
try ecasound with a chain setup you can pipe audio, fully scripted it can do just about everything directly from alsa or if you compile it with jack it will also use jackd. But esd is very versitile, I am surprised that more do not know about how versatile and easy it is to use.
It is not important that the directory/etc is not visible without root over a network connection! What is important is that most people who read this article will now claim that core Linux network managers are insecure,,,LOL
OF course if you enable remote access to any OS as root then all bets are off. You either make damn sure that whoever has access is trusted or you are stupid, Lets not cloud the article with inconvenient facts like network access to a box as root is not enabled by default and anyone who enables it by default unless they are absolutely stupid or the connection is encrypted and otherwise network secure deserves to get hosed.
Getting in the habit of not having to have root all the time is the strength of Linux and is why Windows sucks dead horse balls as an unprivileged user under Windows gets plastered with requests for the system password all the time. Whereas most Linux distros have software access privileges set in a sensible way WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO READ AND WRITE TO PLACES LIKE/usr/etc/var unless you are installing software and people who write software for Linux do not expect to write configurations anywhere except in the home user after an install. If someone writes a program which will send password data from/etc to a honeypot and that program is popular because it makes fart noises or plays poker on the net then as far as I am concerned the users got what the deserve. Same as Windows users that install garbage ware at the drop of a hat so that they can do something like play poker on the net from places like gamerareus.ru or happy_nice_pussgames.ru or bollywoodsy_games_freesongs.in...as one of my friends seems to have a habit of doing so that he can play games on his WINDOWS laptop.
THIS WHOLE FREAKING ARTICLE IS MORE BULLSHIT AND FUD to amuse the crowd who come to slashdot to bash away at Linux most of whom do not even know wtf/etc is in the first place!
If a person that has root wants to enable a login by a passphrase at boot they can or with any linux distro they can choose to only enable network login after a user login EITHER WAY IS SECURE because the place where the passphrase is stored is invisible to the network, unless like I said remote login via root is enabled. Again it comes down to trust, you either trust the user or you do not plain and simple.
THE ONLY REASON YOU CAN TRUST OSS ON LINUX is because you can see the source and there is nowhere for malware to hide. Anyone that writes and compiles a binary for Linux then does not allow access to the source is on the same level of trust as those who write software for Windows. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO TRUST. Be very suspicious of any software for Linux that requires/root r+w after install. Gnome 2 network manager was flakey and thank heavens they fixed it in Gnome 3 the fact that it wrote network passphrases to a file in/etc was not a security issue unless someone wrote a piece of spyware to discover them and linux users were stupid enough to run it as root. Something which no one here seems to think has actually occurred. If someone argues this then point out the actual malware that Linux users were hosed by...eof and end of story.
Caution fud attack. Here we go OSS can never be as good at GPU acceleration. B ULLOLCKS AND FUD STICK. Tell that to my laptop which is running an old Radeon mobile and Google Earth 7 in opengl mode on Linux faster than my newer DirectX Win7 machine with the same release cycle of Google Earth. STOP SPREADING BULLSHIT AND FUD about Linux GPU optimizations period WE KNOW BETTER.
This release would make it completely possible for a manufacturers to easily create completely supported devices without the need for the Windows OS. Given the long stability and versatility of GNU and OSS. There is no reason why manufacturers could not jump ship. The average joe does not care which OS is on a device. It is only those who hold Windows as something akin to a religious experience on their computing device that bleat away against OSS operating systems.
Chrome books, android devices, even the iPad have proven them wrong. The consumer is not hooked into Windows, in fact the most common question I hear from most who consider a laptop with something other than Windows on it is whether or not they need anti virus. Sorry Microsoft until you shed the consumers perception that all of your devices must have AV and anti malware software you are vulnerable as a software and hardware company.
With Intel opening up completely on their key hardware it is now entirely possible for Windows to become irrelevant and this could happen almost overnight if manufactures cooperated and released an OSS operating system highly tuned exclusively for their devices completely independent of Microsoft. Either that or Intel is just blowing smoke////again LOL Remember how pissed Microsoft was when Intel released a C compiler for hardware that made the Linux kernel out perform the NT kernel on big iron? And all the manufactures started to seriously consider Linux as an alternative to NT on servers. Well this release of key documentation brings the war down to a consumer level and if Microsoft does not act fast to quell things down with patent extortion through the Rockstar Consortium the possible market share drop of Windows in the consumer end of the market could hurt Redmonds bottom line this time. So I predict that within 2 years Microsoft will make more money off patent extortion than sales of the Windows operating system, the same way they make more money the sale of android phones and tablets than they make from sales of Win Phones!
We will see if the scare tactics of the men in black showing up with lawyers when ever a manufacturer releases a device with something other than Windows works for them the same way it did with Android.
Google is close to unusable unless you manually set it to show recent results. Old stuff on the internet is mostly noise and rot.
I bet more than 95% of everything older than 3 years is noise and rot that nobody has any use for.
Good troll there guy. It is completely fitting that anyone who is older than about 40, does not view the world through redneck sun glasses and knows their shit, can rebuke your little bit of bullshit with one fact. Kristallnacht would have needed to be postponed by Himmler and Goebbels if their little book burning experiments were not a success starting back in 1933under a thinly disguised guise of an educational undertaking. Had the peoples complacency not proved to them that the people were asleep to the real purpose of the removal and control of information by the Nazis then the NSDAP might not have even achieved complete power. Hitler would not have been successful without the manipulation of history and it might have become completely transparent to those who stopped to read some non-state approved books the real intent in controlling information before almost an entire generation of Germans joined in with the SS on a crusade to commit genocide.
AM I PISSED that people today especially in the United States are starting to fall into the same trap and think that state security can be compromised by freedom of information...YOU SHOULD BE, Snowden is correct there needs to be a separation of information and state PERIOD. If this means that some are sued or even prosecuted for hate speech or the falsification of information to manipulate the public for political gains, then this is the price we must pay for DEMOCRACY. It is a price many of our fathers and mothers paid for with their very lives, to erase the archives within the net is akin to burning books and it must be prevented.
Various versions of Silverlight has been available for Linux for a long time. Not that anyone would want to use it. But lack of silverlight has nothing to do with them not supporting Linux. Or does the article submitter not even know that chrome, android etc are actually Linux varieties? does he think they somehow magically understand Silverlight.
As an obvious Microsurf troll I must re-mod you to plus 5 for frost pist, first post, out of the gate before the freaking horse jockey and a wonderful avoidance of the topic of the OP. WHICH IS WHY NO NETFLIX FOR LINUX DESKTOPS. A netflix interface would not even have to be distro specific it could work on all distros without a system wide installation and could be distributed as a simple tar.gz that unzip and just run from you home folder dead stupid simple unlike silverblight with all the system hooks and crooks.
The simple reason is that Nutflax like other online streaming a/v content viewing software systems does not see profit in coding for a limited number of users. OR the real truth which is bullshit politics from Microsoft, the MPEGLA, the RIAA, the MPAA, Sony, Apple and ongoing desperate measures to keep Linux distros out of the main stream consumer market. AND WHY DO YOU ask because they would get there ass kicked down the road by Mint Linux or even UBUNTU if the public ever caught on to how easy these systems are to use or setup, maintain, the incredible number of older devices like my t42 ibm laptop (that runs like a Russian tank in winter) and will not quit. And the number one answer is the simple fact that most Linux savy and experienced users are too cheap to send money to a cloud based ripp off moovee rental company. And like myself, believe that paying for today's garbage from SONY PICTURES, WALT Businey, TIME WARNER is not worth 8 dollars a month when Youtube and other interesting distractions have HTML5 for free and you do not even have to rely upon the assholes at adobe any longer. LOL GO HOME AND PLAY WITH YOUR SURFACE TABLET UNDER A BRIDGE YOU TROLL. GRRR let people who actually use Linux have the honours of getting in the frosty pist for a change eor// which means end of rand you uncircumcised moron!
I'm totally opposite. I tried to enjoy classical music but it always seems to be too bland for me. I might listen to a classical music track once or twice, but I never really want to keep listening to it.
But if somebody takes a good instrumental track, adds nice vocals (choir singing is super-good) and at least somewhat decent lyrics then I won't be able to stop listening to it. Alas, I probably have almost all of the bands that do this:(
Also, I like to listen to some movie soundtracks even though they might not have lyrics or vocals. I guess that the memory of the story from the movie is enough.
Thank you. On the flip side, I listened to some Glenn Gould recordings on a concert grand piano. Gould had a reputation for being an outstanding pianist, but between the lifeless ambience of the recording studio and his utterly precise mechanical style of playing, no robot could have sounded more soulless.
Poor Glen had an Achilles heal and it was not at all intentional. HE USED HIS VOCALIZATION TO CENTER HIS performance with atonal commentary and could not stop doing it. Like all players that are skilled in improvisation as well as disciplined performance of memorized music the voice is used to counterpoint count the phrasing when working out an interpretation. Listen to Oscar Peterson grunting and then tell me that Gould was an automaton. He had the ability to split duplets on the fly at incredible speed, he could also sting the dampers to shape the notes in running passages of 32nd notes at good quick tempos. The guy was a freak yes BUT WHAT A FREAK and a brilliant one to boot. I would guess that you are most likely listening to the latest Sony garbage digital remixes of Gould that synthetically removed his humming. THOSE FREAKING MORONS AT SONY SHOULD BE NUTTED FOR TURNING THE RECORDINGS OF GOULD INTO PATHETIC SYNTHETICALY CASTRATED DIGITAL SWILL! Much worse even is some of the pedagogues in music conservatories telling up and coming instrumentalist that they play Bach's with too much emotion! I guess people did not have emotions during the Baroque era in their learned opinions. LOL
Speak to those who have actually heard Glen when he was alive then comment about him as an artist, but to each their own.
"HERE IS THE RUB can he notate his music or even read a melody or chart off script"
All day, every day. He's a trained and taught professional musician.
GREAT I truly did not know that! I should have guessed though in the way that he managed the counterpoint in the piece. Hopefully he does notate some of his works I sure as hell couldn't even though I can orchestrate and harmonize by clapping singing and whistling. Which scares the hell out of my cats and people who see me doing it, they think I am nuts. Paul Hindemith could play a satisfactory tune on just about any orchestral instrument he picked up! Brahms is once reported to have come to perform a Beethoven piano concerto and discovered that the piano was out of tune because of a semi tone alignment of the keyboard to the the strings that the tuner had mistakenly done! He practiced the piece transposing it in his head for a short time and then went on stage and played the piece to the satisfaction of the audience!
It is indeed a very good thing that there are musical giants out there still creating great music worthy of the ages. Even in DADGAD tuning.
PS A German made Oud must be tuned in BAHGDAD to be effective. (-: Regards.
Still, not everyone has the same preferences as me. There's room for all of us.
I have heard a velocity sensitive player piano impression that Maurice Ravel actually did of his famous Pavane pour une infante défunte piano solo. It was like listening to a ghost playing, strangely compelling and yet haunting as the piece indeed was intended to be. Thank you for expressing this important sentiment and bringing clarity to this discussion!

Smart TVs will kill consoles eventually.
So the Aussies will be fine?
If you can choose P and e, then you can easily calculate Q=eP. It it only if you start with P and Q given that you can't find e.
Which only goes to show that one does not need to watch their Ps and Qs? I am very puzzled eeeeeeeeee!
It is not important that the directory /etc is not visible without root over a network connection!
Whereas most Linux distros have software access privileges set in a sensible way WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO READ AND WRITE TO PLACES LIKE /usr /etc /var unless you are installing software and people who write software for Linux do not expect to write configurations anywhere except in the home user after an install. If someone writes a program which will send password data from /etc to a honeypot and that program is popular because it makes fart noises or plays poker on the net then as far as I am concerned the users got what the deserve. Same as Windows users that install garbage ware at the drop of a hat so that they can do something like play poker on the net from places like gamerareus.ru or happy_nice_pussgames.ru or bollywoodsy_games_freesongs.in ...as one of my friends seems to have a habit of doing so that he can play games on his WINDOWS laptop.
THIS WHOLE FREAKING ARTICLE IS MORE BULLSHIT AND FUD to amuse the crowd who come to slashdot to bash away at Linux most of whom do not even know wtf /etc is in the first place!
Be very suspicious of any software for Linux that requires /root r+w after install. Gnome 2 network manager was flakey and thank heavens they fixed it in Gnome 3 the fact that it wrote network passphrases to a file in /etc was not a security issue unless someone wrote a piece of spyware to discover them and linux users were stupid enough to run it as root.
Either that or Intel is just blowing smoke ////again LOL Remember how pissed Microsoft was when Intel released a C compiler for hardware that made the Linux kernel out perform the NT kernel on big iron?
GRRR let people who actually use Linux have the honours of getting in the frosty pist for a change eor // which means end of rand you uncircumcised moron!
Alas, I probably have almost all of the bands that do this :(
Also, I like to listen to some movie soundtracks even though they might not have lyrics or vocals. I guess that the memory of the story from the movie is enough.
Take a stab at really listening to the entire Le Sacre Du Printemps some time in your life if you get the time. The average music consumer these days is not capable of listening to anything over 4 minutes in length, the attention span of roughly 3/4 of todays population. Or the average length of a song by the Monkees, which may or may not satisfy some species of real monkeys because they actually might have the ability to listen to real classical music in a more attentive way!
LOL Speak to those who have actually heard Glen when he was alive then comment about him as an artist, but to each their own.
Someone please mod this to 5 it nails right on the head the reason why I started this discussion!
