Read the advisory. The bug was fixed first, and then the advisory was released. Also, this security related issue isn't easy to exploit. Calling that syscall 2^31 times certainly takes a while:)

Troll.
Where in the story posting does it say that involves NetBSD and/or OpenBSD? It states clearly that it's a FreeBSD bug. And one that's already fixed in CVS to boot.
But Apple doesn't fight this. You think they don't want this? What color is the sky on your planet? This means more apps on Quartz for OSX. Yeah right, they don't want it...
As long as you use the gtk-config type scripts (and maybe GNU autoconf) you should have nothing to worry about. Also, make sure you do it in pure GTK and no other Xlib dependant parts
Oh, for you FPS player out there, there's Cranky Steve's haunted whorehouse (also at somethingawful) where the worst maps for your favourite First Person Shooter game are reviewed.
Read the reviews for the close to -50 scoring maps, don't play them. Really. Don't. I'm warning you, you'll hate it. Trust me.
This and all of the similar idiotic comments just goes to show how little the/. crowd knows. Reading even the summary of the article shows how untrue this is. bash has command discovery via reflection API's? Really? It can discover commands by any other mechanism than searching the path? I think not.
tcsh can. Guess the problem is still solved. tcsh can expand command from other 'completors' other than just the $PATH. Like, type mount somehost: and it will try to expand from the output from 'showmount -e' for example. Granted, they aren't reflection API's but that's just another buzzword to me:)
3. Linux is not the next wave of the desktop... yet. In the server field, Linux has most things tied up. Stability... Rock Solid. Usability for the uninitiated desktop user... Still sucks, sorry.
Sucks to you, sucks to Aunt Tillie, but it sure as hack doesn't suck for me. Oh I actually don't use Linux, but FreeBSD, but still, X11 is still X11 on those platforms, and the same goes for KDE. It works a treat here.
It might not be a desktop for newbies (although it is getting there), it sure as hell is a powerful desktop for power users like me. UNIX is ready for the desktop, but probably not yours yet.
Enter SPEWS, who blocks that entire backbone because spammers live on it.
Great. No more e-mail from the U.S. for me. Oh well, not really a loss, since I'm European.
So, fellow Europeans and non-USians, care to set up a global network of our own? Or should we just cut those crummy trans atlantic and pacific cables so they really _are_ isolated.
(yes, this is tongue somewhat planted in cheek. get over it)
Even Microsoft itself never used MFC other than demo apps for the framework. That kinda tells you enough about the framework, doesn't it? This is dogfood even MS itself never wanted to eat.
ANYTHING is better than MFC. It's something you wouldn't inflict even upon you worst enemies.
(coming from someone who tried developing with MSVC and MFC in the past and hurridly scurried back to his trusty Borland C++ Builder and VCL environment)
Geez, BGI sucked so much, I wrote my own graphics routines in assembler those days, because BGI *sucked* *so* *fucking* *much*. Yeah I do remember fastgraph though. But my asm routines were faster and did what I wanted then to do. But of course if I would have wanted portability back then I'd definately use it.
Unix kernel: here I have to disagree with you. Mac OS X is based on the Mach microkernel, I think, which is rather different to the classical Unix kernel. It's closer to NextStep or even Minix than it is to traditional Unix.
And that's where you are off base. You are not totally wrong, but you're not right either. Yes, OS X/Darwin uses Mach, but it' s hardly used as a microkernel. Sure, you can have mach threads, but the BSD subsystem sits next to Mach, on the bare metal. The BSD stuff isn't done like a personality, like you would expect with a Mach MK.
Dvorak also fails to see another thing: He sees just a few UIs. He fails to see that X11 can be used any other desktop environment.
He could have looked at XFCE for instance. Also, it doesn matter that some desktop envs for *nix look like windows. Like others say, it could be useful to win over the souls using windows to our side. Of course if you want something else than windows, you can of course download/use another window manager/desktop env which doesn't act like windows.
It a moot point anyway. I call "troll!" on Dvorak.

Just stating the facts, ma'am :)
It's fair use when you use a snippet of the text. The root post of this thread quoted the whole text, so yes, it's breach of copyright.
Oh, IANAL by the way.

You use a MOUSE to draw? Gack... All graphicians I know use those snazzy wacom tablets. The pens have multiple buttons. Your point is moot.

Exactly. You can bypass Mach alltogether if you'd want to.

Ah, so I can still tell it to piss off? Great. Xnay on the ippyClay. :)
Geez, unicode INCLUDES ascii. So that old stuffy data isn't going to waste.
Yeah, and we also know how it just keeps sucking...
Well... You step into a vacated office, lock the door, close the window, boot up the workstation, load your favorite pr0n website and have a wank.
There, mission acomplished! :)
As the title does mention keyboarding love _and_ pain, I though of S&M practices with keyboards first... Oh well
