So A has conflicts with n clients, B has conflicts with n clients, then you have nx(n-1) conflicts, or n^2-n conflicts. However, not all clients can conflict at the same same time, so there must be (n-m)x(n-1) conflicts. Both of these are non-linear, but not exponential.

Yes you pay tax at the time of purchase. If you purchase online, you are responsible to pay a "Use tax" in your state unless the retailer already collected it from you. So if a company is based in CA, and you live in CA, then you would be charged taxes for your online purchase. If you're not in CA, then you are not charged tax and must pay a use tax to your state. The reason nobody pays their use tax is because they don't have to make a payment until their burden reaches a certain amount($100?). However, I've seen companies and small businesses get audited and they have bought tractors or what not from other states and then they get hit with the tax and fines come audit time.
There was recently a big class-action lawsuit about this where the consumers sued the retailers for selling cross state lines and then the consumers get nailed with tax evasion charges. I'm not sure how it turned out...

I hear you can take a very simple relativistic effect like synchrotron radiation and strip atoms of their electrons to create a plasma, separate the charges, and store it in magnetic containment until needed. Worst case, you could transport plasma to where it's needed or else just build another mini-synchrotron anywhere you want. It's basically the same physics used in the pulsed-plasma fusion generators(although inherently easier to contain). The science and technology are out there but there's some kind of resistance to it from within academia and the government.

Well if they had control of the machine, they could see any ODBC connections and then just run the appropriate SQL command and dump the results to a file. Not exactly easy, but not impossible. If it were a *nix box, they could peruse the users home directories and find the apps, config files, etc. Then just run a command-line dump from the DB. I don't know anything about this particular system but I can imagine it's a typical client-server model where the clients connect directly to the DB.

My guess is the front desk clerk went to a poisoned site which ran a script that took over the machine as Admin(prolly a windoze box). After taking over, it got the clerks password and his/her managers passwords(it did say backdoor trojan). Then it used the clerk's machine to login and dump the database to file, upload to a remote location, then uninstall itself. That being the case, the attacker has everything in the database for 8 million people.

There are many societies where polygamy is the norm and people live happy lives.
