I agree with most of what you've said, I was just trying to explain why arguing about natural rights as they pertain to copyright is nebulous since we create it anyway. It was more an argument against semantical arguments.
I didn't explain why I feel the current copyright system is broken, but I think thats where the discussion should take place. You dig?
Copyright is a social construct and contract that society has with content creators and is very artificial. You can defend a hill with a pointy stick, but you can't defend a song. Some of us feel that copyright law in its current form is not beneficial to society, and so the construct should be changed. Many who hold that view use stupid language like "rights" and muddy the waters. Still, the sentiment is the same and valid. Essentially, half your argument is the same type of argument you tried to avoid by not using the word "piracy".
On the other part of your argument, sweeping a broken system under the rug by avoiding those that profit from the system doesn't fix it. I think we should change the system.
How would an inauguration of a freely elected leader look different in your eyes? The inauguration is supposed to represent lawful legitimacy and a transition of power that is without bloodshed. Without some sort of legitimacy, there is no government.
Haha, I'm surrounded by assholes. We got the crazy consumerist, proud to be feeding at the trough and fighting for his right to get the best slop.
Then we got you, pounding a vague philosophical drum about some delusional bullshit. I don't even know how to react to how dumb what both of you have said so far is. So I won't.
If you're talking about desktop usage, I just did some back of the envelope calculations and I think you're right as far as current userbase goes. If you're talking about everyone who has ever touched linux, however, I think you'd be pretty wrong.
I came up with: 42,000,000 Vista downgrades in 2008 based on this http://www.crn.com/software/207402009 and this
I agree that the roomate certainly has motive to defraud the investigators, and I think the scope of the warrant was too wide. But claims like this do need to be investigated.
Mod parent up, even if I think the whole thing sounds crazy. If you read it, it says that the guy he outed told the investigators that this guy processed stolen laptops, jailbroke phones, pirated a ton of movies, and broke into the grading system to change grades.
Remains to be seen if the dude did all of this, but I can see why the keystone cops responded.
That's my view of it. Of course as an atheist I see marriage as a religious institution in the way that its presented. Makes me want it the hell out of my government.
I agree with your first sentence, but the rest of what you said is pretty off base. I reject the dogma that anything that exists performs a service. I don't know if you picked it up from Structural-Functionalist sociology, a misguided view of Darwanism, or your religion. Whichever, you should really review that.
I'm too tired to go into a real sociological discussion about this, but those sorts of things tend to bring wages up but also ensures it costs more to enter into the profession and weeds out talented individuals who just don't have the capital.

Theres an even stronger interest in discrediting the competition through falsehoods.

High profile imprisonments just end up changing the laws. Thats one of the reason these guys are persuing the media so much, I believe.
Dear god aren't you just a secure little consumer.
And your weird grammar conventions made it take twice as long to read.

Now, I'm sure I'm wildly off the mark and someone can do better than I did. Regardless, that's depressing.
Theres chocolate in my peanut butter!
Yeah but its not illegal to out somebody and it certainly gives the roomate a motive to tell police wild stories about the guy.

Hopefully it'll be one of those glitter gifs that are used on myspace.
So you propose instead criminal charges, so they can avoid the possibility of it might haunting them and instead guarantee it.
I believe that movie is good due to some of the historical perspective within it. I don't think it would pull a good remake.
I swear they do that jerry springer shit just to get people to watch them for once.
Glad to see you're keeping us on top of it, Ray, but if you have a time machine, why don't you just tell us how it ends!
Seriously, that was the most shocking thing I got out of the article.
You're like the asshole who complains about all the innocent contractors on the Death Star!
And that's different from single player RPGs how?
