The vast majority of security companies who consider themselves "Professional" install these crappy systems and not only that, they request the client to open the port on their firewall to access it from the outside. These are the equivalent of contractors who continuously cut corners and when caught by inspectors, claim they've been doing this for many years without issues, so the inspector is in the wrong. When I tell the owners that their system is out in the open and most likely already compromised, they refuse to listen to me and think I'm crazy, then they sit around wondering why their internet is so slow.
There's only one reason why they hire these people, it's because they're cheaper than the real professionals and cost cutting is the thing for management. Even if it means people would get hurt in the long run, the important thing here for them is that they saved the company money.
That savings disappears once you calculate the cost to the consumer having to buy newer power supplies that are now going to be more expensive (I'm not even including the taxes we paid for this stupid initiative to come around). The market is simply going to adjust to government regulations. What does that mean? Obviously more expensive goods. So I doubt there is any savings at all here as the costs simply shifted to somewhere else.
You realize UL is not testing for how good quality the product is or how the pins are connected, right? UL wouldn't get you anywhere. UL really doesn't care.
Based upon my experience, the best USB chargers are from Samsung and anything else that has a counterfeit-resistant UL sticker. And also based upon my experience, if you notice that a charging cable is getting warm, you should probably replace it because it's dissipating electricity as heat rather than conducting it.
UL doesn't guarantee you anything in quality. They only put the sticker on there if it complies with certain electrical standards but not the quality of the product. People need to get that out of their heads that UL is some sort of magic label that guarantees their product is of good quality, it isn't. It's only compliant with some UL standard that meets electrical safety, and that UL listing could only be for the wire and insulation only. And for low voltage products, that UL label is pretty much meaningless in a lot of cases. There are other certification bodies that do measure the quality of the product, like usb.org.
I would like to have all my devices be able to update with the latest android version from Google instead of being bogged down from some crappy manufacturer. I never understood this logic where some different brand Android phones are not able to update to the latest Android version and you remain bogged down with some phone that gets more broken over time because Apps update to support newer versions, and having X app crash all the time because of it.
It's because no one has the resources to send out people to peak the interest of manufacturers like Apple and Google does. You need an army of lawyers, negotiating teams and massive marketing in order to build something on this grand scale which the other OS's aren't doing very well at.
Convenience can be secure. The problem is that a lot of stores will not deal with fraud properly. They refuse to believe you or they'll simply ignore you. Security works two ways. A lot of places put security on the customer while the store does zero.
The problem here is that Amazon is trying to really be helpful and resolve problems as quickly as possible. They do pretty well in this, but it seems they need more training in security precautions. I wouldn't go as far to cancel my Amazon account, time after time, Amazon has always refunded my money, refunded me for late deliveries, given me vouchers for even 1 hour late deliveries, supported me against a lousy vendor, etc etc. I even got an extra item that I didn't order that was worth $200 that they told me I could keep. Amazon really does customer service right and I'm pretty sure they'll listen when they read this article to try to improve. I hope they don't change their policy to be as nightmarish customer service like others have.
If anything, don't save your credentials and credit card information on Amazon, problem solved. Social engineering is nothing new, you could pull off the same crap with Newegg, Walmart, whatever online store, your bank, or anyone else for that matter. Sure, others may ask for way more information to confirm it's you, but guess what, it takes 30 minutes more compared to Amazon's 5 minute customer service that ends up being resolved instead of in question.
You think that's bad, you should see all of Siemens products. With all their backdoors, they've now included a web interface as a backdoor with their brilliant new designs! Enjoy!
Not really superior to anything. If anything, I see it as a complete and utter failure for linux and the opensource community again to get into the tablet and phone market where it ended up being dominated by the big manufacturers. So, now we have completely locked down proprietary hardware where none of the opensource OS's will run on and the manufacturers pretty much dictating to us this is how it's going to be from now on. Samsung is a great example of this.
Until the imperialistic, authoritarian bullshit from professional software makers decide to make their software work under linux or I get some sort of alternative that is just as good. Until then, I have to deal with Microsoft.
How is it fud? A lot of professional software requires Windows to run. Wine is not a solution and running VMware with broken 3d acceleration is not fun. Common hardware like wifi is still broken in linux and difficult to configure. Bluetooth is a joke under linux. Hardware acceleration is hit and miss. Nvidia and AMD Graphic cards are still largely not fully supported and that's as common as you can get (I've seen some linux users calling this weird hardware before too). Audio issues are still largely present in linux and buggy, requiring manual configuration at times. The list can go on.
Until linux can deal with these issues, it's going to get no where with the vast majority of people that really NEED TO DO REAL WORK.
The absurdity of this is mind blowing. I've had the same with both my credit cards from the EU and my credit cards from the US. Apparently I can't use my credit card from Europe to purchase games LIVING inside the US because Steam is so retarded that apparently I must be residing there in Europe and have to pay VAT (When this is not the case).
That's great for you. But the majority of us have to rely on Microsoft Windows because the software we use only works on Windows. If all I did was web browsing or simple software programming, I'd be sitting on a linux desktop all day, but unfortunately that's not the case and some people need to get work done instead of spending a whole week trying to figure out why my wifi doesn't work. Autocad, Solidworks, Photoshop, PLC software, whatever pretty much run exclusively on Microsoft Windows. VMware is usually not a good answer to some of this software because of how piss poor the GPU drivers are in linux. The alternatives are even in a poorer state without commercial support.
The linux/opensource community pretty much failed to grab the eyes of the professional software community, hardware developers and failed to even grab the consumer on it. And it's failing again to take advantage of the Windows 10 fiasco with a "I told you so". As much as I'd like to use a linux desktop exclusively, the reality is that, to do my work, I need Microsoft.
Playback is great with mythtv, but the UI is still God damn awful. Setup is also still awful. The only reason I still stick with MythTV because it plays everything you throw at it because it uses mplayer, vlc, whatever you want. All the others have playback issues.
Unfortunately a lot of business and even mission critical software now runs Microsoft products. Your choice is pretty much Apple OSX with their problems or linux with half assed desktops, office suites and their issues. And if you're using professional products that only work on Windows (Solidworks, Autocad, the vast majority of PLC programming software), your best bet is to use vmware on top of either OSX or your favorite linux distribution.
It's very hard to get away from Microsoft, believe me I'm trying and I get very disappointed at the alternative options. And you think that's bad, Microsoft is getting into the industrial safety world and Industrial PLC's (Beckhoff's all run Windows 7 embedded and crash all the time, bricked at least 10 of them doing firmware upgrades). Imagine your safety being relied upon Microsoft. Also doesn't help that the mass influx of Chinese products is using Microsoft or some messed up Android version.
With whom? He's an anonymous coward. They don't file bugs, they just sprout shit out of their ass making spectacular claims without anything to back it.
Were you hired by the Merkel regime to push this nonsense because Poland doesn't want to join in the migrant fun?

I don't know why you were marked troll, but pretty much Samsung's new touchwiz is very lightweight on resources now and convenient.

Samsung and Verizon devices will probably never get an upgrade. Took forever to get an update for my Note 12.
Sounds like I need to install this trojan, I might be able to get my microphone working in linux finally!

Welcome to the future.

So all of the sudden running Gentoo makes sense.

I actually wonder how many people did switch to Apple products because of Windows 10.

Over a year to fix that "stupid bug".
