Patenting is so dang complicated, I have no idea how to interpret this. I have noticed the number of patent lawsuits between technology companies has become absolutely gargantuan these last many years. I hope this change is good for consumers. I'm skeptical consumer interests were given priority consideration in crafting the legislation.
Amazing that after 30 years of Windows a fast bootup is considered something to get giddy about. There's even a stupid as hell commercial for it at the movie theaters.
Unrelated question. Can anyone tell my why the heck voice quality for ALL the carriers is so insanely horrible. Is it not relistically feasible, is it prohibitively expensive, what is it? It seems to me a carrier providing better voice quality would give a great competitive advantage.
It's well established that large magnitude increase competition, reduce prices, improve customer service, and spur innovation. Here are five examples, uh... nevermind.
On a somewhat related point. How many IT Admins believe the various symantec, mcafee, whatever virus protection software in and of themselves excel at preventing new viruses from infecting computers. Raise your hand. In a security conference I just attended when asked that question literally no one in the room raised their hand.
Our fastest current thruster, ION propulsion, can theoretically get us to the closest star in about 81,000 years -- about 2,700 human generations. Maybe some kind of self-sustaining ark spacecraft could do this.
There is a completely theoretical idea of Nuclear Pulse Propulsion which could reach about 5% the speed of light which would make the trip about 85 years.
I have the xbox kinect and I would think it would be a great tool for this. From what i understand many of our nerds brethren have a disassembled kinect's and retooled and programmed them with all kinds of funcky capabilities.
I've never understood this building blocks from meteorites theory. Wouldn't any organic molecules be destroyed by the thousands of degree temperatures from entry through the atmosphere. Also why are building blocks from meteorites even important. Isn't the primordial earth a much less hostile even more fertile environment for the formation of these molecules?
Do ISPs ever throttle our speed up over what we pay for when bandwidth saturation is low?
I pay Time Warner for 10 mbs so I want 10 mbs not 8, or 5 or 3 or whatever. I want what they very loudly promote in their advertisements I will be getting. I don't know if they throttle youtube but they frustratingly slither along at a snails pace.
"During the eighteenth century, it was common for writers and journalists to use pseudonyms, or false names, when they created newspaper articles and letters to the editor. Franklin used this convention extensively throughout his life, sometimes to express an idea that might have been considered slanderous or even illegal by the authorities; other times to present two sides of an issue, much like the point-counterpoint style of journalism used today. "
I don't care for chrome. I find chrome very unintuitive. I find IE and to a lesser degree FireFox much more intuitive. I use chrome when I want to view videos because it seems faster but otherwise not so much.
I agree that manned "exploration" of space is of little practical value and largely a waste of resources. Unmanned...well anything...is an order of magnitude cheaper and more efficient.
Getting a router, never loging in under admin credentials, passwording all accounts, running my virus/malware software on Max security, regularly clearing out all browser history, blocking ads using the HOSTS file all seemed to have greatly reduced the need for re-installs. See, that's all ya have to do.
It's a shame how police over these last many decades have so tarnished their image by their bullying, arrogance, and disregard for the average citizen that many folks have no respect or even have disdain for them. Kids wave excitedly at firemen in their trucks, when was the last time your kid waved gleefully at a cop driving by.
The police routinely use the no expectation of privacy argument with regard to city video camera surveillance of citizens walking around. It seems to me the argument goes both directions police shouldn't have an expectation of privacy in public places. Moreover citizens keeping government officials accountable for their actions in this way seems right in the spirit of our constitution obligation.
I don't really follow Apple closely so I was surprised to find out that the ipad doesn't have screen writing capability? I'd assumed it did since tablet PCs have that capability.
I'd image this change should be a real boon for industrial espionage from say...China.

No worries. Fusion power is only 10 years away....as we've been hearing for the last 30 years.

How can something be both "abundant" and "rare" o.O

OMG Microsoft actually did some basic research and with results to boot!

Holographic store devices have been "just 10 years away" for the past 30 years.
How much does adding the movie channels to your cable package cost per month; how much does OnDemand cost per movie?

Myco means fungi right?
Try self flagellation

I'm glad Apple freed us from corporate shackles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYecfV3ubP8
