You're trying to claim that a person with music blasting in their ears can listen to a flight attendant more accurately and attentively than a person without music blasting in their ears?
Sounds like you're trying to pick an argument. It's a little early for that, and I'm not interested.
Actually, in a roundabout way, it does have to do with safety.
Takeoff and landing are the times in flight most likely to result in an accident. If things do suddenly head sideways, people distracted by laptops and iPods are much less likely to react accordingly and survive.
Most people in the aviation business know this is the real reason.
I'm assuming you meant because of my use of the word "telco". AT&T, Verizon, Comcast(xfinity), and all the other major broadband providers are definitely "telecommunications providers". They provide telephone service, as well as internet and cable.
Seriously, if that wasn't meant as a joke, you should be embarrassed.
Do you know anything about the blackout features? I live in Chicago and am a Blackhawks fan, but I am planning a move to just north of Denver sometime in the future. Although I would be getting it mainly for Hawks games, but watching the occasional Avalanche game would be nice too, if it's not restricted.
I am sure the various telcos are acutely aware of this trend, and have plans in place to cover their bottom line. When subscription numbers drop drastically, be on the lookout for internet connectivity prices to skyrocket. I sincerely doubt they'll go quietly into the night as half their business fades away while the other half makes the same money as before. Remember, they have the monopoly, they can do it.
As soon as the Boxee Box comes out and I get some feedback on how the NHL center Ice package ($80/year) looks over a decent connection, I am dumping everything else.
Again, wrong. I set everything up through SquareSpace, and they're pretty well known for having things taken care of as far as security.
Why the hell would I password protect a blog? I just won't post things that I consider too personal for the open internet. Since I'll control the content, I won't have to worry about being tagged in an embarrassing photo or a wall post of "Dude, you were so hammered!" Not that I get that drunk in the first place, but it's the control that you don't get as easily with Facebook.
I am not shooting myself in the foot. Prepare yourself for this but...*gasp*...it's possible to have an active, healthy social life without having a Facebook profile. Heresy, I know, but it's true.
And it is not a tantrum. I just consider it unreasonable for Facebook to sell and profit from my personal information. Since I do not consider having a Facebook profile a vital part of my existence which validates me as a human being, I'm just deleting it.
Sounds more like you're the one having a tantrum. And it's a tantrum regarding another person you do not know deleting his facebook account. Think about that for a minute or two.
Or this could be the exact response I'm looking for? I know who my real friends are, and I'm not going to be crushed if person X doesn't try to catch up with me after they friended me because we met once at a party.
You have a strange definition of being ostracized. I have never made a friend through Facebook; I make my friends in person. Not being on Facebook will not preclude me from making new friends in person, either. Anyone who would say "You're not on Facebook? I do not want to be your friend" is not someone worth knowing anyway. Of the people who I know are my true friends, not one would cast me out as a leper for not using Facebook.
Sounds to me like you're just one of those social media evangelist shitheads who lists how many Twitter followers you have on your resume.
This is the exact strategy I've taken. I registered http://myrealnamehere.com/ and started a blog. I'll be deleting my facebook account shortly, with my last post being "Anyone who actually cares what I'm up to, find out here" with a link to the site.
For years my eye doctor consistently told me I'd have to stop using computers because it was hurting my eyes so much. Since I had aspirations of becoming an air traffic controller (radar, not tower) I knew I needed to change this. I replaced my computer monitor with a 42 1080p display and set it several feet from where I sit (around 4feet, I think). According to my doctor, my eyes have improved dramatically since then, as I am no longer focusing on something so close. My prescription gets weaker every time I go in to the office.
I suppose what I mean is that pawn implies being pushed around for someone else's goals. I don't think Microsoft is dumb enough to let Apple dick them around just to screw Google. If anything, Microsoft would find a mutually beneficial middle ground.
My main argument with the summary was the use of the word "pawn". I am no Microsoft fanboy (or Apple fanboy for that matter) but implying Microsoft would be dumb enough to get led around by a smaller company irked me.
Sure. The corporation with the $271.6 billion market cap is the pawn in the battle between two corps with market caps around $190 billion. That makes sense.
I'm no longer NoPantsJim@-----.com. I was also lucky that Facebook let you change your username at least once, so facebook.com/NoPantsJim is history. It was a college nickname and lots of my old friends still call me that, but I graduated 3 years ago and it felt very silly sending out work emails and resumes from that address.
Once I switched to JamesR(mylastname)@gmail.com, I noticed the responses to my resume increased dramatically.
"Yes, Madden 07 and 08 are included in the shutdown... but Madden 09 on all consoles as well"
The economy blows, so to the average guy, is it really worth $50 to upgrade to 10 or is 09 good enough as it is?
It just boils down to money. Plain and simple. Not even the cost of running the servers, but forcing everyone that thought Madden 09 was just fine for their needs to go out and pickup Madden 10.
Well take a look at a guy like Kevin Rose, still very much admired for his nerd persona.
When I say "nerd chic" maybe I should specify that I don't go walking around looking like I fell out of a magazine. I dress professionally and people know I'm smart, which they admire me for. I don't even wear glasses.
Nerd should imply intelligence, and intelligence is what we should persuade students to aspire to. Some asshole claiming he's a nerd because he occasionally gets together with his bro's (or even worse, "brah's") to play Halo 3 without needing someone to plug in the HDMI for him is total BS.

Not all commercial aviation accidents rule out the possibility of survival.
Really? Doesn't having music pumped into your ears kind of interfere with hearing audible safety instructions? Reading does not.

The review was ok, but the customer images really summed things up nicely.
Wow, was unaware of that. Definitely going to have to reconsider.
You are kidding, right? This is a joke?

That's minimally observant regarding a whole other issue...
Yes, I noticed. Just because we did it doesn't mean it was the correct response.
It wasn't my statement.
Dennis Miller once said:
"Noticing that 16 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia isn't being racist, it's being minimally observant."

"encumbered by eyewear"
I have never, ever done anything while watching porn that would have been encumbered by eyewear. I can't speak for everyone though.

Air traffic control
(The FAA relaxed the dress code a bit...)
