We've all got a pair of little speakers for high notes, then a big subwoofer on the floor. If they can make a better pair of tweeters, why gripe? As it is, mine are on the verge of falling of the desk because they can't fit next to my 21" moniter.

The important question is, how big do they expect this to be? If they're staffed on a volunteer basis, and make a profit on each box sale, then who cares how many they sell? Whether they make 5 or 5 billion, they'll still keep their heads above water.

Again, I'm sure, everyone will point out that there will be no benefits to an open source, linux based console. Or will there?
Sure, Free linux games are fairly primitive right now, but the advantage of the GPL is that we never have to reinvent the wheel. Now that we have TuxRacer, anybody can go ahead and use the engine for a new racing game. If B&W gets open sourced, we'll have another great engine.
Okay, this is a long shot, but just because Free games haven't worked so far doesn't mean there couldn't be some potential advantages.

We have satellites dedicated to the task of detecting rocket launches, so that in the event of a nuclear war with the Soviets, they would be unable to launch a sneak attack on us.
Maybe not so important these days, but the satellites are still there.

It IS the latest version of Linux right now, unless someone else also released a new version of a distro today, right?
Seriously though, that's pretty bad. People joke on/. all the time about newbies thinking that Red Hat = Linux, but I never thought a professional magazine would do that...

Libertarianism is an obscure fringe movement. Conservativism is a mainstream, powerful group. Why on earth would any conservative group deliberately alienate people in order to seem libertarian?
What you actually see going on is libertarians giving money, who generally vote conservative and support the Republican party as a "lesser of two evils."
Little l libertarians actually make up about a third of the Republican party (I read an exit poll article an election or two ago about various groups that compose political parties), and those are the sorts of people you often see funding groups like the Cato Institute. They certainly aren't conservative in any mainstream sense of the word, as they are anti-military and pro drug legalization.

Forgot what the exact numbers are, but you have to spend at least some number of days outside the US each year to not be subject to US taxes (I want to say 180, but that's really just a guess).
Sure, you could break the law, and stay illegally, but exchanging a low risk of being wrongfully chaged with drug violations for a high risk of being imprisoned or exiled to Africa hardly seems like a good exchange. Besides, as a non-citizen living in the US, you give up almost all of the rights you would otherwise have, giving you even less privacy than you started with.

The fewer people who ride, the less far that free money will have to spread. If you really want to hurt Amtrak, lobby Congress to cut off federal funding.
The most recent information a quick google search turned up was that Amtrak got $555 million in 1999.

Maybe "did as well as MIB due to more publicity but poorer quality?" All the reviews said it sucked. It did suck. The only good thing about the movie was Will Smith's Wild Wild West song.
I'm not joking, the movie was god awful. Just horrible. A movie you would not wish on your worst enemy. And I know I saw more ads for it than I saw for MIB.

It's a Remotely Piloted Vehicle. Hence, there is a human in the loop. So we can adapt just as quickly. All we need is a good, secure communications protocol that doesn't broadcast our position, and we'll be in great shape. Not easy, but certainly ought to be doable. Satellite communications, perhaps?
The advantages are twofold: First, and most importantly, our planes are expendable that way. If we can send up 1000 cheap bombers, and lose half of them, we may be better off monetarily than if we send up half a dozen B-2s and lose 1, but as long as those planes have pilots in them, we'll always choose the later strategy because we have to preserve lives. The second advantage, of course, is that with no pilot, there's a good 150 lbs less weight, plus the space savings on the cockpit, which should improve performance a bit.

Okay, answer me this, bright guy: How would the US beat China? We can beat their airforce, no problem. We can eliminate their navy. Now how the fsck do we conquer 1.6 billion people, without giving them a chance to launch nuclear weapons?
This is why, impractical as it is, I believe the missile defense systems MUST be the top priority of our armed forces. Not because anything promising has shown up, but because it is the only thing that matters right now. We can contain the destructive forces of any country, but we cannot stop weapons of mass destruction.

This is a dangerous line of reasoning. Suppose the community really comes together and supports the Tribes 2 release, with sales well worth any game publisher's time. What happens with the next high profile game? Are we all supposed to be religious about buying every single game that comes out, whether we want it or not?
The rise in Linux gaming should mirror the rise in Linux usage. If we try to rush this process, we may end up causing Linux gaming even more harm, because, as they say, once bitten twice shy. Gaming companies will be less likely to port if they launch a major release expecting the same kinds of figures as Tribes 2, and don't get it.

1. It must be a game that I am interested in already. I'm not going to buy Railroad Tycoon, just because it's on Linux.
2. I must come out before I buy it for Windows. I will not pay twice for the same game, and I will not wait indefinately for a Linux port.
However, Tribes 2 meets BOTH of those criteria, and so I will buy it this weekend. Hooray for Loki! May there be many more Linux games for me to buy.
