Right. The only app that I use somewhat frequently that needs elevated access is Mass Effect 1 (from Steam). I was kind of worried about it, but what can I do (other than not play it)... Other programs seem to be fairly well behaving bunch after installation is over.

I use my N800 daily, too ... to play Klondike. The FBReader software is a terrible user interface. A pity, really.

I dislike the interface as well, but once you get a book open and in landscape mode the reading experience is rather nice. (I prefer the program's own scrolling from the settings instead of the scroll bar. Much prettier. I think I also decreased the font size a bit.) Adding books is not nice whatever you do.

Personally, I don't really think the equipment or the act itself is really harmful. (And how would blinking less constantly and consistently alter the geometry of the eyes?)

Seriously, what signs? In my experience Nokia's support for devices that aren't brand new is very good. Secondly, if they were to cut the support right now, what exactly prevents you from using the QT-libraries yourself? (Or installing community software that use QT-libraries) What exactly is the support you need if you are happy and the phone is open?

qgil from Nokia in Maemo forums:
"Maemo 5 has a roadmap of updates that includes more than bugfixes. It hasn't been disclosed, but the plan exists and is being executed as we speak."
"So really, if you want to contribute to the future of Maemo and the N900 then please invest your time filing/improving/voting bug reports and brainstorms, help pushing apps from Extras-testing to Extras, try/rate/comment Ovi apps, pick your preferred missing feature and collaborate with anybody willing to push it... All this is actually fun, not only for you but also for the rest of users that will benefit from the improvements you will help pushing."

No, I tried one and decided to never buy one that flashes like that. The change was also unbearably slow. When I had a PSP, I read a lot of books on it. The resolution was pretty low, but that wasn't really a problem. Now I'm reading with N810 and it's pretty good for the purpose. (Although getting used to FBreader was a PITA). I wonder if the smaller screen of N900 makes reading less enjoyable.. Maybe not, but probably the font size needs to be a bit bigger.

And a side note to GPP: I agree, and I know a few police officers who call prisons universities for criminals.

Most people have no idea how cell service works. They complain that they have no service at home, not looking at the coverage map that shows a poor spot.

Having no service is a quite valid complaint. The poor spot is just the cause. These days I pretty much expect to have enough coverage for making a phone call in all everyday places. (having no coverage when trekking would be ok, even welcome.) 3G is a different story, as I don't expect it to work everywhere outside cities. Yet. I definitely don't expect dropped calls within a city / town / anything with population over 500 persons.

Map If this works abroad, it describes the coverage rather well. (White areas don't have reception and in the the light blue areas you need external antenna.) My provider uses a different network, but is pretty much comparable to that one.
