From my memory there is large portion of tax revenue that the government gets from refined petroleum products that does not come from oil companies but instead is paid by the consumer when they purchase it at retail. When I worked at a gas station in college in the late 90's we had a chart by the registers showing the aproximate percentages of the cost of fuel went, and while I can't find a similar chart I did find this which seems to be fairly similar to what I remembered. There are substantial costs but the various state and federal fuel taxes add up quickly. The federal + state gasoline tax in my state is 47 cents per gallon and for diesel it is 53 cents per gallon. Wikipedai has a very nice chart detailing these. So it would seem reasonable that the amount of tax the government gets from oil is greater than the profits big oil gets. Now this is various state and local governments in addition to the federal one but is my understanding that this is where that statement comes from.
It probably is cheaper if you aren't buying the 75/25 tube of goo ground beef and you buy directly from the farmer and processor but it usually require buying a large fraction (quarter or half) of an animal.
To be fair I get good beef and it costs less than mass market stuff. Then again I pay the farmer directly for my share of hanging weight where the farmer decides how much per pound he wants to charge. I also pay the processor directly for my share of butchering of the animal and I can get it done up exactly how I want. This cuts out the middlemen that have to take their profit and also cover any losses from damage or spoilage. This year I paid $435 and got about 115 pounds of beef (finished weight, not hanging weight) and that includes ground beef, steaks, and roasts so at worst it is price-wise on par with the really cheap crappy ground beef at the store or in the best case border line deal of a lifetime for the premium cuts. I personally know the farmer, know what the cattle eat, what conditions they live in, and what they are or are not given. Also the farmer is one of the cheapest people I know so he makes a tidy profit off of each head but there aren't many cattle on his farm (keeps it between 12 and 14). Then again I am more of an exception as most people will just buy what ever is on sale at the grocery store.
You forget that without massive applications of antibiotics you can't have thousands of cattle knee deep in their own filth noes to nose eating out of the trough at the feed lot which is how so much of the beef is raised at the end to add weight. Also most of the cattle raised for the commercial market with have well over 100 cattle on 40 acres which greatly increases their exposure to disease requiring the use of antibiotics.
This is where they lost me. How often are scrapes and cuts (or even car accidents) treated with antibiotics?
I always thought the correct thing to do was to apply something like iodine, H2O2, or rubbing alcohol to kill anything that might cause an infection or have we moved beyond that now.
Well with the recent marketing pitch from OnStar it should be even more believable. If the mark asks just say it is like OnStar but for your computer. And now I need to go patent that idea.
The accuracy available for all of Galileo is slightly better than regular GPS but as far as military level accuracy that is achievable without having access to the L2 data even with GPS but that requires multiple receivers. In ideal cases you can get about 2cm accuracy and with a wireless link do it in near real time for a roving unit. Again here the subscription Galileo system here is slightly better but the techniques used for RTK and CORS for GPS would also work with Galileo since they make use of the L2 carrier phase since the actual L2 data is encrypted. My state has even begun some trials of using CORS data for autonomous plow trucks as well as keeping buses moving properly on the shoulder of highways during rush hour (I found this out the a few months back) since a +- 2cm accuracy is plenty good for maintaining lane control
That is why the Russian GLONASS and EU Galileo systems use frequencies close to those used by the US GPS system. It becomes impossible to jam others without also jamming your own.
Also go in with cash in hand for the amount you are willing to pay for the car, this is more than your initial offer. Let the sales person you know you have cash and if they won't deal walk away. They usually change there tune when you are about 5 feet from the door. When I go to a dealer the only thing the sales person does is goes and fetches the vehicle or vehicles I am interested in as I have already done my research and know what I want to see when I show up so I don't need them to try and pick out a vehicle they think I want.
Never had the opportunity to deal with a Saturn dealership but have been pleased with with the BMW dealership down the road from my work in the past. They are a no haggle place but cash in hand seems to change that. They also don't seem to pull the BS that other dealerships do but it seems that higher end dealerships do offer better service and less dodgy employees. The worst experiences I have had were at the local chain of dealers that run advertisements stating "Buy happy" and one of those small independent used car dealers who are a walking stereotype.
No you just need to be a Class 3 firearms license holder, which you would need anyway since at 40mm with a rifled barrel it is a class 3 destructive device.
Hey I am hoping for a good Indian restaurant in to move into the location that use to be where blockbuster was. I figure it will only be a few more moths until the current occupant folds since there are already 3 other established mattress shops in town.
That about sums it up they are pretty worthless and only seem to do the easy work that gets good headlines. While I was in college my sister had a boy friend who had a number of open warrants out for his arrest who also liked to beat women. I was house sitting and the worthless local police wouldn't come and pick him up but a couple days later I managed to get the county Sheriff to come and pick him up. Unfortunatly my sister was too afraid to press charges for the physical abuse so he got less time that he should have.
There is nothing fair about any tax as it will always affect some more than others depending on what metric chosen. The proper question is what form of taxation are we as a society willing to accept to pay for the services provided by government?
Sounds like a great place to camouflage our politicians. I mean really who is going to notice a bit more bullshit in a state where they coat most of the ground with it in the spring.
The US law and EPA says otherwise. It is not for the lifetime of the vehicle but is for 2years/24,000miles or 8years/80,000miles depending on the part. Now things get a bit dicey with aftermarket modifications as manufactures seem to want to blame any failure on anything not from the factory so if you go around mucking with the cars computer expect to have them say tough shit.
It is possible to do that. I have only gotten 1 ticket in my 25 years of driving and that was for 46 in a 45 (it was a harassment stop and that was all the cop could get me on) which got thrown out in court. Then again when I want do drive like a raped ape I will go out to the track and beat on my stuff in a safe environment instead of trying to show off on the street. Other than that go with the flow of traffic and don't speed through little shitty towns
So also like food items where the brand name includes an adjective indicating superior quality (best, tasty, delicious, great, etc.) means it is barely palatable.

There is plant matter in their food. Last I checked sawdust is still plant matter.

I would also accept interstate wire fraud in most cases as well.

Hell even if you don't believe the war on drugs is wrong (personally I don't fall into that camp) there wouldn't be proper cause for that.

The answer is "why are you keeping pennies in a cup?
Because you are my 2 1/2 year old who loves to run around the house with a cup in his hand finding pennies to put in it.

That waiver you referring to is the waving of his lips to is.
