It's not a racism on Slashdot problem, it's heavily euro-centric view of history in the Western world problem. It's very unlikely that the GP perpetuated it intentionally...especially since he was making a joke.
Some of the supercar manufacturers come close to 100% (Ferrari is probably the closest by a big margin)...but for most it's just the engine and chassis, and everything else is built to spec by outside companies or are just "off the shelf" parts.
The opposite end of the spectrum is also populated with high-end companies, like Gumpert and Lotus who don't do much more than design and assemble in-house and heavily use OTS components.
I want Microsoft dead. I want them to have a hilariously incompetent CEO, OS prices that rival an entire gaming console or low-end laptop, and copy protection that annoys paying users. A free version of Windows ould make Microsoft the most powerful corporation in computing again and pull the rug out from under home-use of Linux. This is seriously bad news.

There are certainly stupid poor people but I'd say they're a small minority. And I've never seen a person who is "disadvantaged" by such gross stupidity as you describe being defended by anyone. So for now the "stupid poor" problem appears overblown and the "leftist defender of morons" appears to be a strawman.
Also, not to apologize for Valve, but there are games far more invasive than this. Some NFS games (NFS:S2U for one) will trawl your actual browser history to put targeted ads on in-game advertising surfaces. Unless you use a software firewall to block their Internet access;-)
I know, tracts of land, and I'm sure it's not really a major factor in the decision to blow themselves up...but some of the screwed up fundamentalist Islam these guys follow do actually follow the misinterpretation, or exploit it to "sweeten the deal" with the suicide bombers.

I don't think the spectre of hypothetical cartoon-leftism should keep us from trying. I'd like to see what happens, and how many poor people are actually stupid, and if there are any leftists such as you describe in reality.
Polyamory and polygamy aren't the same thing...which would explain why there are two different words for them. Polyamorous relationships tend to have an even-ish number of men and women.
Games already have ultra-realistic-looking characters that aren't creepy...Crysis series, Far Cry 3, DMC4/5...in fact I can't think of any games with Uncanny Valley characters. It's like they leapt straight across the valley at some point rather than trudging through...which kind of makes sense. We had motion capture tech before we had machines powerful enough to render ultra-realistic characters.

Not exclusively, not primarily, but massively. It makes evolutionary sense and evolution doesn't care about our high-level notions of romance. Being rich is the new version of being a good hunter and defender against saber-toothed cats, and the difference between each man's "hunting" skills can be astronomical now.
How many women would slum it with an Average Joe if they could enjoy a lifestyle 10x, or 100x better if they share a rich harem-keeper's attention instead? There would be fierce competition for those few women with hearts of gold who don't opt for this arrangement. I think the only reason it's not happening right now is because it's not socially acceptable - again, except in the middle east, and those polygamist communities in the US where young men leave voluntarily or are pushed out.
Just because those people exist doesn't mean they have to get what they want. There are some people who would like to kill everyone alive right now, and in some hypothetical alternate reality there might exist a society which can allow them to obtain this goal...yet we are safe because of the rules of our society.
Maybe if we took the savage competition out of life itself people would find healthier avenues to channel those urges into. Being the best at designing something. Being the best at a sport. The best at painting. The best at EVE online (a great way to contain and placate the would-be psychopathic executives).
I don't. They're finite due to the limitation of time. Wants take time. It takes time to consume and satisfy them at the very least. There are only so many hours in a day.
They weren't "post-scarcity" at all, they just had a lot of unemployed people (due to low demand for human labor thanks to automation/AI) and a welfare system...pretty close to the point we're at right now.
