How many links does it take to make the difference between legal and illegal linking?
They've already moved to magnet links, which are just more abstract infohashes. Those link to the.torrent file contents, which the BitTorrent client can use through trackers and DHT to find computers that host the content, which can then deliver the contents. So that's (at least, I'm sure I've oversimplified) 5 layers of separation between TPB and pirated content - far more than Google could boast.
Also I'm not an American and would never suggest that their government isn't horribly corrupted.
TPB hosts only 100% legal material. Some of that legal material includes infohashes that, when processed by a BitTorrent client, many steps down the line, will eventually lead to other material not hosted on TPB which may or may not be legal.
They've rightly refused to comply with takedown notices since they ask for 100% legal material to be taken down, or the takedown of material they are not hosting.
Nice, been looking at services like this that are open source and give me the option to host it myself later, this is what I'd like to do for my web-based RSS reader and email.
Magnetically actuated valves in the vas deferens, normally open or closed, your preference. Want to get the non-default state...strap some magnets onto your nads.
Anyone with medical knowledge know how workable this is?
This. When you want an open device but instead buy a jailed device and jailbreak it, you're voting with your dollars to say "YES, more locked-down toys, I LURV DEM SO GOOD!"
This is the NSA's position. They will lie to deny any and all illegal (and many legal) surveillance capabilities until their existence is leaked out and cannot be denied anymore.
You'd need either another form of hierarchy or a preferable alternative (post-scarcity stuff) to be free from capitalism. Capitalism is as natural as predator-prey relationships. Even some animals practice capitalism (penguins paying for sex with good nest-building rocks, for example).
I know that conspiracy nuts who happen to be libertarians are quite common in the tech field, even far from the US where the "distrust government WITH THE FORCE OF A THOUSAND SUNS!" culture doesn't exist.
That's not what they think they're doing (assuming they're not cryptofascists), they deny the existence of economic power and think that widespread deregulation will lead to more personal liberty.
But yeah it's scary that they put this guy in IT security at the NSA of all places. Most people with such qualifications would have a hard time doing better than pumping gas, secretary positions require more training with computers.
On the other hand none of the PhDs at the NSA had the moral fortitude to leak this stuff.
Their description of Kinect privacy sounds an awful lot like the privacy policy on browser scraping in-game ads in PC games (disabled by blocking the application in the Windows firewall). In the case of the browser scraping, none of the data leaves your system, but if it looks like you're into skateboarding the game will fetch an ad for skateboard gear and show it in the game. That request for a skateboard gear ad DID leave the system. Maybe the same thing with Kinect? Hears you saying you'd like some pizza, fetches an ad for Pizza Hut, and hey none of your conversation was recorded or left the system right?
I think the blame still lies with the NG company. The "punching a pacifist" metaphor is a good one. Sure, he chooses not to punch back out of his own free will...but it's wrong that he was assaulted in the first place.
Employment in manufacturing is down against steady and healthy growth of the industry in the US due to automation. If you open a manufacturing plant you're going to get a small number of jobs for an operation of such size and cost, maybe some local robot purchases if you're lucky. If you want jobs, buy some time by finding an industry that can't be automated so easily. We don't rely on farms or textile plants for jobs anymore but nobody got the memo about manufacturing in general. I know it has that nice folksy blue-collar "we're MAKING stuff!" image but you have to let it go.
That because to most people civil rights is just the election losers' cudgel with which to bash the other team. The next time the cudgel consolation prize is transferred the same thing will happen again. Only an easily ignorable minority will grow steadily louder.

It doesn't happen with a vasectomy...

You're almost there. You need one that's multiplatform with read/unread syncing...maybe web based? Like Google Reader? Which is an aggregator!
Good point, so the default-open configuration is a no-go.
Imagine how cheap they could work if they had hands! 8-(
No sir, no sir, none of mine.
None for the government
None for the corps.
None to stop the war crimes,
Ours or yours.

Gaming keeps my gaming desktop on Windows, everything else runs Linux, including my phone. Real GNU/Linux too, not Android.
Because there's a violent face-puncher on the loose and we shouldn't wait for him to run into a victim who will fight back?

A good rule of thumb for dealing with digital privacy issues. It'll never let you down.

Maybe if I present it in the form of a cryptography scheme for terrorist communications...
I'm no mathematician but I could write a program to brute-force this puppy. Worth trying? :-P
