Even by US standards he's still right of center. I'd like to know about all of this leftist stuff he's allegedly doing. Were the conservatives calling Clinton a commie? 'Cuz Obama's further right than Clinton.
Chile some time ago surpassed New Zealand on my "potential nice place to live" list. Too bad about their Internet censorship, NZ's techie/gearhead culture is really appealing.
I think Stallman is so cautious to condone the criminalization of pedophilia because "think of the children" is a WMD against freedom and he doesn't want to empower it.
I don't agree with his positions on pedophilia or bestiality - children and animals can't give consent (or at the *very* least, it's impossible to be sure that the "consent" wasn't coerced) but I do agree with his position on necrophilia, as gross as it is. If someone wants to sign a form giving someone else permission to hump their corpse, well it's consent between two adults and nobody's being harmed...
The big difference is that to most modern Americans the illusion of freedom is as good as the real thing. This is also why they'll take more abuse from private companies than the government, because there's the illusion that they could easily switch at any time (HOAs, curated computing, finance/insurance companies, etc).
90%? That's a conservative estimate. So is 99%. It's a prerequesite. If you aren't in a nice suit with a tidy haircut most of the population won't really listen to what you have to say.
Too bad he's never pressed the point then...Obama's never been able to get legislation through without the Republicans at least thoroughly having their way with it first. Not that I think it's impossible, just that his first 3 steps in dealing with the R's (even when they're an overridable minority) are "1: Compromise, 2: Bargain, 3: Compromise some more."
Do you really think people are so stupid as to believe that would be the reason he vetoed it?
Well the Fox News zombies wouldn't even need any convincing, they'd assume the worst by default immediately, and that's probably over 1/3 of the population right there.
Most of us (at least on Slashdot) don't picture the ideal computing experience as Apple slapping our ass and calling us a good girl as it does us from behind.
Yes we like control. Only reason I don't overclock is because it's destructive and my CPU is good enough (I think an i7 940 is "good enough"), but if I want a performance boost when my computer is close to needing an overhaul I might go for it.
They have the right to the whole space, they're oversized to allow easy access, so who cares if they park at an odd angle to ensure that they can get back into the car? as long as they're within the lines why is it a problem?
Both my cars are compact and I've still been boxed in by inconsiderate idiot drivers when parking well within the lines. One time I had to contort myself into the car through a tiny door gap (bystanders applauded) and another time I had to climb into my 4x4 through the back hatch. People who aren't so able-bodied don't even have those options, so if they get boxed in do they just have to wait until the owner(s) of the offending car(s) shows up?
Apple computers have clearly gone straight from concept to production with no engineer input in between. Compare to concept cars: They look really good but they're completely impractical with huge rims, little or sometimes zero wheel travel, tiny slivers for headlights, rail-thin bucket seats, curvaceous fenders that are bad for aero, a center console that consists of either a single huge touchscreen or a single knob with a tiny 1-line LCD display, etc. and the engineers dull them down to make them practical before they go to production.
At Apple the engineers don't get any say, apparently, the designers rule them with an iron fist. They want a razor-thin tablet that's hard to hold, that's what comes out. They want a laptop that can cut a steak, that's what comes out. They want a phone with the antennas wrapped around it that loses the connection if you hold it wrong, that's what comes out. They want to keep the buttons to a minimum for a sleek look which sacrifices practicality, that's what comes out. Form trumps practicality every time. As pieces of art they're interesting but as computers the design isn't the best. Unskilled users praise them in the same way that a typical soccer mom driver might praise a horrible (but good-looking) car that just manages to get from A to B.
And all of you who have been supporting Apple and other peddlers of curated computing devices with money, arguments (employing advanced mental gymnastics), and "don't worry Mr. Frog the water's still cool" rhetoric have been aiding the enemy.
Another reason tablets were a dumb idea for this purpose. Put a big screen and camera against one wall of the enclosure, and the protect it with a thick piece of lexan. No devices breaking and they can have an always-on videoconferencing wall.

Even if fallacious? Nope can't agree to that.
Wrong on all points except the giggling and the fact that I watch anime.
An FTA with the US? Meh, not the end of the world.

Chile has a lot of forward-thinking legislation on tech issues. Net neutrality is already legally enforced there.

And what difference would that make? The Android kernel is incompatible with the mainline Linux kernel anyways.

Sex: RMS believes necrophilia, incest and pedophilia should be legal.

Same place that it says you have to do it in a Free Speech Cage I guess...

I didn't say park badly, just further out.
Bottled water is usually just tap water...

What a swell guy.
Another advantage of parking further out is that your car is less likely to be damaged since people will be less likely to park next to you.
Many people would have been.

You don't get first posts by RTFA'ing.
