My biggest problem when I rode into work was that even with a 5-minute shower to wash off the slight sweat from the half-hour ride, I still sweated for the next four hours. And that was inside a temperature controlled computer shop. Thankfully it was the military, so it wasn't something anyone would complain about.
I live in south Florida right now, and about half of our stuff is dried on racks, whether inside or outside. The half that goes in the dryer is the sheets, towels, and older clothes. Saves a lot of money, and the clothes do last longer, as someone above mentioned.
That was one of the first thoughts I had as well. Just because someone worries about global warming, doesn't mean they don't cook dinner, have multiple computers for parents and children, and in general stay up later to do something after the kids go to bed, whether that is cuddling or paying the bills.
Re-read my post please. I agree that the global warming crusade is a power grab and transfer of wealth. But this 'study' is still shit, with shitty methods and assumptions. Just because it vindicates your preconceived notions doesn't mean it's worthy of your endorsement.
While I don't disagree with that, this report is the wrong one to trumpet about. The asked 250 people a question that is quite ambiguous, and then monitored them for a year. I read the article earlier today on some other site, and it sounded like rubbish for those reasons and others.
I don't wholly agree with the AC's viewpoint, but I think he brings up a valid argument; sports are a multi-billion dollar (euro, pound, yen, etc) business, even at the college level. The activity causes horrible injuries as a matter of course, both immediate and long-term. If this was the case with any other industry, it would be shut down, such as with the use of asbestos or open dumping of chemical waste.
As for myself, I just don't get into sports except for once in a while if my "home state team" is in the NBA Finals (it's been a few years). Never was good at any of the few I tried, but that didn't matter in the geek crowd. Now, nedlohs wants to say people like me don't matter, that we are 0%. Yeah, I take a personal offense to that remark. And I think that is exactly how he meant it.
If he meant that only that one particular AC was, as he stated, "approximately 0%", then nedlohs should understand that he himself is as well, so his remark means just as little as he claims the AC's does.
A more intelligent response to the AC could have been stated that humans have always had contests that pit humans against each other. Quite often those contests left thousands of people dead. I would rather let the bloodbath be contained by rules that commercial sponsors can accept, than have the primal human aggressiveness run rampant through our streets on a daily basis.
As for ESPN, I dropped cable years ago. We have a digital antennae, and receive a half dozen stations, with their sub-channels bringing it up to a dozen. My wife misses her old shows on TNT, USA, and so on , but I don't. The good ones are all done now anyway.
How many times do we see actions forcing a company to change their ways, where it all started with one person complaining?
Nedlohs can spin it how he wants, but he effectively said no individual matters, for any reason or any situation.
Considering how many people have ditched cable and sattellite service over the last few years, there are a lot of people who realized they can live without ESPN.
In fact you make up approximately 0% and hence your particular preferences
His particular preferences apply to to every other geek here who doesn't care about sports and ESPN. That group is bigger than 0%.
Are you somehow claiming every individual has no influence, because everyone is approximately 0% of the population in general, or of patrons of a particular business?
I never pretended anything "never happened". I mentioned one episode, as I said above, only because I thought it was funny that someone would specifically mention "WASPs" messing up the Middle East. So I brought up the Crusades because there were no WASPs in it.
Honestly, I don't know what you think my mission is, but you're barking up the wrong tree.
What does that have to do with pointing out another period in history, which didn't have the "WASP perpetrators of crimes". I left it as a thought problem for you guys to figure out why, and so far no one has. Reading about the time period has no bearing on it.
Mister Liberty mentioned in his post WASPs in the Middle East. I referred to the Crusades because those happened before there were WASPs. If you think someone is picking on Christians or white people, it started before I posted.
But in reality, claiming I'm trolling because I mention a historic episode is pretty thin. When I'm trolling this board, everyone knows it, and mods appropriately.

Your preconceived notions were that I had preconceived notions in relation to this study, this thread, and global warming.

Nonsense. A company is a totally fictitious entity. The government created it and the government can make it do whatever they want.
(As it turns out, the corporation is also able to control the government, but that's another topic.)
Well, the government is also a totally fictitious entity itself. So, it's not surprising that fictitious entities are controlling each other.
Great sex doesn't require a bright soul.
I almost got to that universe once. But what was actually different was that I was a chicken.

So, is he wrong on his points?
I figure he has the right to either enjoy sports or lament their existence, along with the multi-billion dollar companies that own and support them.
Someone on a geek site is saying people who don't watch sports are "approximately 0%" of the population.
How far up your ass can you fit your head?
He wrote "citizens of said island" not what you wrote. Basically, the people of Hawaii voted to become a state.
No, actually white people from America overthrew the Hawaiian monarchy, and then decided to become a possession of the United States.
Missiles for a grammar mistake.
Damn, I'd hate to be in your classroom.
Hello!! Spoiler alert!
Asshole.
I agree with your view.
I thought one of the properties of viruses is that they often stay dormant for a long time, and then re-emerge.
Just because she had 'no signs' of infection doesn't mean there weren't a remaining few viruses waiting for the medicine regimen to end.
Well, I don't know about those first two groups, but the third is one of my favorites.
The dead buried at Gettysburg would make a fine army.
That was my point. Why mention what the WASPs did, when the Crusades are more culturally known, and had no WASPs?

No, that's not at all what I was getting at.

Yahoo it yourself you lazy jackass.
