Because, in order for the reactor to produce power it needs at least some of its control rods to be removed. Having the control rods removed during an emergency is FAR FAR more dangerous than a loss of cooling. The point of the cooling pumps is to prevent the core from getting so hot that it melts the control rods and the slags down to the bottom of the containment chamber. All modern reactor designs do not need active cooling like these reactors do. They are some of the oldest reactor designs in existence and upgrading such reactors have by put off due to cost and unending legal challenges by environmental groups. It's sad that we could replace our horrendous coal and hydroelectric power grid that does untold damage to the environment, with modern safe reactors within a few decades but can't because "Environmental" groups hold on to this windmill pipe dream... oh wait, they file legal challenges on the windmills to...

But our choice is between people that want to take our money and waste it on government programs that do more harm than good, or people that want to take our money and waste it on tanks and jet fighters when our enemies are 2 guys in a pickup truck and a hunting rifle.

Just because things have always been this way does not mean they will always have to be this way. Just ask the people of Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and on and on. Stand up, say NO MORE. If they don't give you a choice worth voting for, write someone in. If you can't write someone in, don't vote. At least admit it's wrong and say so, loudly.

Usage caps do absolutely nothing to limit the amount of data your customers use. ISPs problems arise when a large portion of their customers use their cap at the same time... usually around 6-8pm. The rest of the day the ISP is idle for the most part. The people hitting caps like this are doing so because they are using their connection 24hrs/day. ALL ISPs in the US throttle peer to peer traffic, even if they don't admit it. So these people are already slowed way down during this peak period. So why are they doing it? New fees, plain and simple. It's the equivalent of credit card overages.

" In late June, the Tokyo government’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) announced that nearly half of Japan’s commercial reactors had problems that needed to be addressed and further inspections were deemed necessary.

NISA’s report noted that none of the reactors, "…had a problem that is not 'tolerable,”’ and that the majority of the country’s reactors got a passing grade.

But, the report did cast doubt over Japan’s nuclear safety record.

A particular problem seems to exist with the reactors operated by the Tokyo Electric Power Corporation (TEPCO) — 14 of their 17 reactors were considered to need additional inspections, with the No. 1 to 4 reactors of the Fukushima Prefecture No. 2 plant considered to have had ‘‘significant’’ problems following the mistaken discharge of radioactive materials into the sea through a drainage pipe that came to light in October 2009.

The Fukushima reactors have suffered a host of problems including in January 1989, when an impeller blade on one of the reactor coolant pumps in Unit 3 broke at a weld forcing a reactor shut down while in 2006 Fukushima’s Unit 1 was shuttered following leaking irradiated water."

If you're wondering, Fukushima would be the reactor in near meltdown right now. Next time you feel the need to call someone a liar I suggest you use www.google.com to do some research or shut your mouth.

Medicare, Social Security, Gay Rights, the erosion of our fundamental civil liberties, education. All require politicians to vote for things that will make them lose votes from both Republicans and Democrats, but would benefit the general public.
